Americal198
Today's Greeneville Sun named the teams that will participate in this year's Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic. There will be nine local schools. North Greene, West Greene, South Greene, Greeneville and Chuckey-Doak. Other area schools will be Cocke County, Kingsport Dobyns- Bennett, Jefferson County and defending tournament champs, Oak Ridge. Other teams will be Archer, Georgia; Chattanooga East Hamilton; Lanier, Georgia; Parkersburg, West Virginia; Rockcastle, Kentucky; Shelby Valley, Kentucky. The two teams I am especially looking forward to seeing will be Meigs County and Upperman. The latter two, and East Hamilton should be fun to watch. I've read much in this forum about those three.
BP4138
This tournament will be loaded for he most part. There are numerous state tournament teams, two state champions, seven players in top 200 of their respective class, numerous girls being recruited heavily and 15 teams of the 18 that won 18 games or more last year. It will be a totally new format and will be a five day event instead of four.

Greeneville HS plays their basketball in this facility. It holds a large crowd. Located a couple of miles from downtown. If you are staying over, there are plenty of places for lodging, but I would recommend The General Morgan Inn in downtown Greeneville. It's a one-of-a- kind place that was the result of a major restoration of historic "railroad" hotels. There's a restaurant and bar located there and a very nice lobby and small shops. The downtown has many historic places of interest like President Andrew Johnson's two homes and tailor shop. And the Dickson-Williams mansion, located behind the hotel. All this is within walking distance from where you would be staying. Unless you plan on watching basketball for ten hours a day, you will have plenty of downtime to sight see without getting into a car. Americal198
I'm looking forward to seeing this year's editions of Meigs and Upperman. South Greene lost three senior starters including Miss Basketball finalist, Braelyn Wykle, so Meigs may exact revenge against SG for the loss in volleyball. I'm not sure how intact Meigs is from last year. Greeneville also lost several seniors and Morristown West graduated Blayr Shultz. Win or lose, this tournament is the highlight of girl's basketball in this area. The experience and the competition gets them ready for their different state tourneys.
