The split happened here initially (and then definitively) when publics didn’t like losing to privates because the “recruiting” makes it an non-level playing field. This in spite of multipliers and numerous other rules attempting to make it so. Of course the perennial powerhouse public programs are all above board and would never use shady tactics to gain an advantage on their competitors.

You had a school with 350 students beating schools with 2,000, regularly, and usually, by large margins. Seem out of the ordinary?

I think anyone can find an outlier that proves there point...say Alcoa that regularly drubs 5A/6A schools and is accused of cheating just as regularly with a 1/4 - 1/3 of the kids.  I may have started us down this path when I mentioned "the old days" with only 3 classes.  My point was that Privates were not dominant...in fact Gallatin was the big dog.

Another interesting point:

Texas.....almost 1400  schools.....12 championships

Tennessee....300-ish schools.......9 championships

Now this DOES seem out of the ordinary.

I remember The day of 3 classes. Being in a public school we took pride and put forth extra work to kick the tail of a private school. So by kicking the privates out meant public’s wanted the participation trophy a lot more. Way to many classes period. Private and public.

Best Private vs public example I can think of was Lausanne vs Whitehaven.  Beat them 2 years in a row.  Little ole DIIAA Lausanne against a 6A Whitehaven powerhouse.  Yeah...

So to me that is coaching. Because I am From Memphis and they both have athletes. White haven I would Say has more athletes. So what was the difference.

Whitehaven should have beat the breaks off of them. They have more D1 players. More athletes.

Right, but like I have been saying for a while....the level of competition at these smaller private schools is insane for the amount of athletes they have.  The coaching, facilities, and hand picked athletes make the difference.  Literally the x's and o's....Jimmies and Joes.  Oh yeah, and in that instance...the Eric's too.  LOL.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
