Is it possible for Overton to return to power ?

I'm not sure that I would agree completely in your player assessment. Somewhat sure but Overton has always contended with others luring kids away. When Coutras was at Overton you had MBA, Ryan, and BA. On top of that the talent in metro was fairly spread out to true zoned kids. With Mullican you had similar circumstances. If memory serves correct in his last year they were put out of the playoffs by Stratford and many thought that was Overtons most talented team since the 81 team. At the start of Anderson's tenure in 94 it was still similar. By his retirement all of the above that you stated he dealt with and his final team went 11-1.

If Overton was still winning the talent would not be lured away as easily. Now you may be correct that those days are gone but I think with the right coach they could return. I hope so anyway.

Hardtackle why did kids flock to Stratford when Fitzgerald was there? What happened when he left?

Flock? He recruited them with help from son Buck. I do not think he has ever coached either side of the ball ,but can recruit better than them all. Why is Stratford not doing well now, Players! WIP, How can you be so blind. You somehow skirt the fact that these coaches recruit and make them sound as if they are very good coaches. Decent coaches with great players.

Hardtackle, this recruiting you speak of is not new.  Maplewood was referred to in the 70s as the north east Nashville all Stars because of their success with special transfers. What is different now? Another reason to root for Overton, they have never been accused of such tactics.

Coaches today go out and seek the players called recruiting illegally. The days you refer to kids went on their own. Back in the day Overton had many players zoned to Antioch on their teams.

Yes, it is possible for John Overton to return to being one of the top teams in the state.  The reality is that the chances are not very likely.  Let’s understand that this is not a zoning issue because kids from Davidson County can realistically go to any school if they provide their own transportation.  The real question is if the principal would allow a new coach to bring in a great staff?  If a coach does not have the backing of the administration they will not be successful.

Metro doesn't seem to ever work that way getting assistants

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
