That narrative is so deceptive.  That was a 6-4 WB team that had two close losses to some of the best teams in 5A at the time (Farragut and Ooltewah) and a loss to Maryville. We could have easily beaten Farragut and Ooltewah. We only lost to Farragut by a point and we lost to Ooltewah 28-24 on the road because a very questionable flag eliminated a late go-ahead WB touchdown. That Ooltewah team lost to the eventual state champs (Smyrna) in the semifinals and Ooltewah had to beat Farragut in the third round to get to that game. That was a very good WB team.  We're talking about a team that could have easily been 9-1 with a 34-10 loss to Maryville. To say we were middle of the pack is inaccurate. We were a top 5ish team in 5A.

Good to know all that history behind the scenes stuff...  I was only going by the record at the time.

Another bad game. Tackling was atrocious. There was a play where WB only had 8 guys on the field and had to call timeout. Just not a good season at all. Very unfortunate because I was excited going into this season. When I first looked at this matchup before the season, I thought it would be the battle for 2nd place in the region. Doesn’t help that WB had a couple of key players out tonight.

About time the Tribe got back to being the team they were the first 5 weeks. I think moving forward, Blankenship is the better option at QB.

He was on target with all of his throws tonight. Carson may still be feeling effects from the concussion against Greeneville.

Side note, it was an honor to meet @BarneySox2007tonight. Good dude!

The same likewise SWVAHavokFan. I ended up going to this really for three reasons, not being able to drive over to HVA and get there on time since we start at 7, HVA is really a poor excuse for a football team and everyone needs to lose their job all the way to the principal and I thought the DB game would actually be a lot better which it was until the bomb exploded with the interception late in the second quarter and then the truth all came out real fast. The DB QB was right on with his throws and really something WB couldn't handle. The QB hitting his target laying on the ground in the end zone is worth watching the replay again. His other throws were like watching a military drone hit video. I did watch the Maryville game while at this contest on my phone. To go over and watch a game at HVA is nothing worse than taking a beating.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
