I agree. They stand a better chance now than any other year that I can remember. There is something different about this team that I just can not pin down. They are always very talented, recently they have had great coaching, and the community gets out to support them and cheer them on. They seem to have cleared up the dumb penalties that used to haunt them. I can think of several games where players made just bone headed or stupid decisions that ultimately cost them games. They seem to have cleaned up a lot of that. It is not just the penalties.... Can't peg it.

Think having a true QB has made some of the difference. Just my opinion.

The team is player lead, the discipline has been enforced. Also this year was the first year coach smith actually got to have a spring with the team. The kids are playing with a chip on their shoulder because they are being called overrated. Their just motivated it’s hard to explain it, it just beautiful to watch them play as one heart beat

Having a true QB definitely helps. The last true QB we had was in 2017. Tillman McRae, but we were in a run heavy offense with coach Hookfin. He had more rushing yards then passing yards

Our defense has so many play makers. I  watch these guys in practice they are like brothers. They are just trying to bring a gold ball back to Haywood

Haywood is very impressive. Their passing game was unstoppable against my Covington Chargers. For anyone to beat them, they will have to field a top-notch pass defense.

The Tomcats will beat Obion by 40 or 50, depending on how much their coach wants to rest his starters for the playoff run.

Coach Smith is a classy guy. When he gets the game clearly in hand he will let the JV boys run and not mock, or taunt a team he is better than.

For the most part, this is the case with most coaches. I have seen a few time where a coach was trying to drive a point home or be classless.

Yes with this being senior night against a lesser opponent i can see the jv playing most if not all the second half. Our jv has been able to get a lot of work this year due to our margin of wins. Most big games coach smith kept the starters in the entire game for conditioning purposes

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
