York has the better team this year. Very athletic and well coached. Strong was still by far the best player on the floor and we are talking about an individual award on this thread.

I am really glad that you clarified what the post was about. I was just making conversation because I was not able to see the game. I was not arguing the fact that Grant Strong is a great ball player either.

He did, but what coach doesn’t help out his best offensive player?  He was held to 14pts tonight by one of (if not THE best) defenders in 1A (btw, he gets no credit from the media and he guards the best player from every team regardless of position). He’s still the BEST player in 1A.

You are correct on all your points...Hunter is a phenomenal defender that pretty much locked down reigning & future Mr. Basketball.

A buddy of mine said he had to guard a freshman from PC all night tonight.  If he cant defend?????

I wasn’t there wish I had of been. Some people have to work unfortunately for me I am one of them. I knew PC would play much better than they did in Byrdstown last week. Too good of a team and too well coached. It won’t surprise me one bit if Pickett wins a game against Clay.  Either way both of these teams will be in Murfreesboro come March and I hope they play for all the marbles!

If Pickett would’ve made their free throws they would’ve won. They controlled tempo and kept Strong under wraps. The sophomore big for Pickett got Arms in foul trouble and was a thorn in the side to clay all night. If Pickett can incorporate him in with the guards shooting,  should be a tough combo to defend.  It will all come down to who gets to dictate tempo. Whoever does should get to avoid E. Rob till the region finals.  Just my $.02.

I think the reasoning behind that would be the coach doesnt want him to get in foul trouble. When you score like that, the coach is not going to put you on the other teams best player. And just because someone is a freshman doesnt really mean much anymore. I saw a freshman from a local high school boys team get face guarded the other night so you cant always assume a freshman is not a huge offensive threat

They do it to keep them “fresh” to be able to score as they don’t have a ton of offensive players. 1A and some of 2A have a lot of this. When you have 200-700 students there’s usually not a lot of very skilled offensive basketball players. Coaches in these divisions have to try and maximize what they’ve got.

    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
    • What is the hold up here? I have not heard anything in weeks. Are they waiting for the right person or is something else going on?
    • Per usual, we'll be hard to beat in the regular season, I'm sure. It's the post season that I'm more worried about, specifically the coaches. Maybe they'll be able to make some adjustments that will keep the momentum in our favor. How's Grays recovery coming along?
    • Something don’t add up here a college coach is not going to turn away a good player they need just because they didn’t get along with their high school coach
    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
