Dyersburg @ Millington

I don’t see a thread about this game, so I’ll start the discussion. These teams are each 2-1 in Region 7-3A, so Friday’s game will see the winner move to second place, while the loser moves to third. Of course, they will each have another region game after this one, but this head-to-head result will be important. 
 

We are nearing the end of the regular season, and playoff seeding is important, both to set the pairings and to see who gets home field advantage. 
 

I see this as a toss-up, but Millington is at home. Anybody want to pick this one?

When: 7 p.m., Friday 

Millington has won three of the last four games and done so with its defense. Save for a 28-14 loss to Northpoint, the Trojans haven’t allowed more than 13 points. Dyersburg has lost three of its last five games, giving up an average of 37.7 points in those defeats. If Millington can find a way to score — it hasn’t scored more than 25 points in a game this season — it should have the advantage over Dyersburg.

This looks like a safe pick. In addition to Dburgs inexperience they are banged up right now as most teams are this time of the season but dburg really can't absorb that this season. Dburgs inability to create any offense against formidable competition leaves the defense out on the field to much and they wear down. That's part of why they are giving up 37.7 points per game although those 3 losses were to Munford, Trenton, and Covington, who are all expected to make deep runs in the upcoming playoffs in their respective classes. They were competitive for a quarter to quarter in half in two of those games, but once teams figure out the three plays that Dburg runs they adjust to it and then it's all bad.  Should be a good game as Dburg matches up better with Millington than the 3 teams I just named. Just have to figure out a way to be more efficient on offense.

If Dyersburg can find some offense I think they pull it out . Keep going three and out defense will be out of gas by second half

I do believe this could be a defensive battle. So the first team to find any Offense wins. I watched millington/Ripley game and Millington’s offense is a lot worse than Dyerburgs. They will never score on us. Dyersburg wins 14 - 0. They do seem to have a kicker so maybe 14-6

Dyersburg threw the ball a lot more against BTW, but I'm not sure how that will translate vs. Millington.

Incredible game last night that came down to a missed XP in OT.

Dyersburg is decimated with injuries right now and had to pull their top RB due to injury who had 85 yards and a 72 yard TD on the first two plays of the game. Dburg defense bent but did not break and got some huge stops.

A couple of quick observations:

1) Dburg offense was limited to 12 offensive plays totally 63 yards in the second half and found a way to win. 

2) McCoy Pugh is going to give defenses headaches in the postseason.  The young man went 15-29 for 215 and  23 rushes for 141 yards. Stat sheet will show some incompletions but there were a lot of dropped passes as well as an INT that deflected off the receiver’s hands.

Pugh threw or rushed on every single snap of the second half and the first snap of OT before the ball was handed to their back for a TD on the second snap of OT for a TD. A TO was called before their failed XP attempt and I genuinely felt they would go for two given the way they were moving the ball.

I really thought that Millingtons QB was going to single handingly beat us in the second half. If Millington would have taken those 3 points in the first half he would have. So we can thank the Millington coaches for that dub. Now we have to take care of Ripley
