2. Covington (7-1)

Last week: 2.

Last game: Defeated Dyer County, 45-18, on Oct. 14.

This week: Hosts Haywood County (8-0) on Friday.

Number to know: 413. Ahead of Friday’s showdown against a Haywood team that is ranked third in the state in Class 4A, Covington’s running game is clicking on all cylinders. The Chargers ran for 413 yards in last week’s victory and averaged 7.5 yards per carry. Skylan Smith didn’t get in the end zone but was outstanding nonetheless, rushing for a season-high 220 yards on 27 attempts.

I think to compete in this game, Covington will need to come out with more of a balanced attack with at least 10-15 pass attempts and a strong up the middle ground and pound effort. If Covington tries to do the normal Wing-T thing, I think it could be a long night. We see the Wing-T faulter some when Covington goes up against a similar talent level, which I think Haywood has plenty of. I believe our defense will be the toughest that Haywood has faced so far, however, they will still score plenty of points. Covington needs more than 30 to win this game IMO, that'll be a tough task. Looking forward to the atmosphere and a great game. GO CHARGERS!

I agree with this post!! Yes! 10-15 pass attempts MINIMUM, with A LOT of completions. If the Chargers try to run outside using their speed, they will be surprised that Haywood's speed will match it and then some!

I love both of these teams and hope the best!! This will be a great game!!

Go Chargers!

Go Tomcats!!

It’s 24 hours to kickoff.

The Weather Channel says 66 degrees at kickoff. Should be a beautiful night for football. How many folks will Haywood bring? I know our Covington folks will come out in big numbers.

Haywood always pack out the visitor side a lot time we have more fans than the home team

    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
