Tom Adkins out at Jo Byrns

Tom Adkins has resigned from jo byrns after 29 years at the helm. He said it is very unlikely for one of his sons to take the job so who do y’all think will take it? Plenty of tradition to take over but not much talent as of late.

John Harrison who is currently the football coach at Sycamore and also served as an assistant coach at Springfield would be another good choice.  

5 years ago this would have been a very appealing 1A job. They’ve fell off recently. But if you want a job that guarantees you make the playoffs this is the one to get.

This is a good job for someone looking to go to a small school that has been doing things right for 29years. You won't have to worry a lot about work ethic or kids that play hard. Coach Adkins did a great job and his teams were always prepared to play ball.

Perks: Small School, great rural setting, revving trucks and creative cheer signs to help create a great football atmosphere. Hard working kids. And maybe the absolute best concession stand in high school football.

Playoff atmosphere is one of the best in 1A. As WR said, loud trucks and great food. Seems like they have a lot of pride up there. Going 0-10 and still making the playoffs would be crazy though.

Awful quiet up there. Any movement at all? I know it is a tough sell with the lack of positions for assistants, but you have to hire somebody.

I would figure a hire from within would happen in this situation.

Tough when the assistants were the sons of the previous head coach and not in the building. Nor do they want it.
