My son has made a cross with his eye black in every game so far this year, with every game so far having a different set of umpires. And not one of them has told him to wipe it off. If it's small- let's say not all the way down the cheek it'll probably be ok.

Gene M. had said you could have a normal line or cross at the TBCA conference this year, however yesterday the umpires said crosses were not allowed… What game was it? I know in the past players aren't supposed to wear jewelry. However, high school was the only age group that didn't let players wear any jewelry. The players could wear it when they were kids, they can wear it in college and pros, but not in high school? Why is that? And no, "safety" is not an answer to that question, because the players wore jewelry before they played high school ball. Doesn't matter now Jewelry is legal. Yeah, but let's not sit there and say it was "illegal" last year when players were wearing it across the state

abo14
I find it maddening when the powers that be find it necessary, in any sport, to regulate things that have zero impact on player's safety or the outcomes of game. Officials have enough trouble calling the games why add unnecessary responsibilities?

It was enforced during the Sevier County and Pigeon Forge game last week...That was the first thing brought up during the coaches meeting.
CardsVolsTitans8
This is without a doubt the most unecessary and retarded rule I've ever witnessed in any sport!!!! Eye black has zero impact on the game!!! The most liberal bs I've ever witnessed for a high school baseball game!!!

Which leads me to question if just because it's unnecessary, "we" feel entitled to tell someone that they can't? There are lots of unnecessary things that people do daily that make them feel as individuals, and not "just a number"... I'm in the camp of if it harms no one, let it be and let them live their lives as they choose to. You may choose to view this as a minor little thing (it is), but the best place to draw the line is the beginning.

So if a kid comes to the field looking like Gene Simmons or Ace Frehley you think it's ok?

Loaded question, and I'll explain with another loaded question. Do you think that I should have the right to decide what you like? What if I believe that you shouldn't be allowed to wear a particular color of shirt to a ballgame (it's the same thing) if I don't approve? If it gives an unfair competitive advantage that isn't available to all, then regulate it...otherwise, it's just people with a little bit of authority exercising their will upon another. I'd even be fine with an extenuation of the rule pertaining to hairbows/headbands and what color is allowed (must match), but not such a silly little thing with so much political undertone. Just a veiled attempt to condition the masses to accept "authority" without question, and I'll never be OK with the minority setting the rules for the majority.
