Wartburg @ Oneida

Just watched replay. 1st quarter was pretty ugly.

Game turned in middle of 2nd quarter. Backup QB did a great job to lead that drive.

And then in the 2nd half, Wartburg had no answer for the QB run by Rector.

May have been different game if the Wartburg QB could have played.

Next week will tell a lot about Oneida when they play Polk.

Yip.  Wartburg dressed 27 probably played 15.

Not sure what to say WB enrollment for TSSAA is 383, Oneida 386. I’m not sure numbers are the problem for either of us. I mean after all Coalfield has 162 total students so we both have more boys than they do students and they regularly beat the brakes off both of us. It’s not like they dress 50. I think both of our programs need to do better with what we have. Numbers help but like you said we have a big advantage in the numbers department and CF still throttled us. Y’all are more than twice the size of CF and no real advantage. Both of our programs need something they don’t have more than just numbers. WB is building I will say, the team Carries itself differently than in the past. If the powers that be will keep the current staff in place I think better times are coming. They are changing the culture and it shows.

Whooooo!!! From the middle of the orange seats it looked like the tribe came out of the locker room as if they were the fall guy for the macho man.  They came out the 2nd half like the ultimate warrior!! Whooo! 1-0 in the region baby! Got a lot to work on before the long haul to Polk salad.  You can say all you want to about how tough the Dawgs played but they left the prom alone baby! Whoooooooo you may not like it but you better learn to love it cause it's the best thing going today!!! Whoooooooo.

Im talking about the kids dressed on the sideline. It's not Oneida's fault wartburg doesn't have more participation im just stating the facts. Wartburg has 9 kids playing both ways.

Coalfields a whole different animal that I won't get started on, won't do any good.

Good come back win for your squad. It's takes grit to come back 2 scores down no matter who the opponent is.

I get what you’re saying and I understand. The WB coaches are doing good things. There’s a lot of change happening but it takes time.

I wish TSSAA would wait a month or so before having schools turn in numbers. A month after Wartburg turned in 383, they were down to around 370 and got down to around 350 by the end of the school year with kids transferring out, home school, etc... There are so many kids walking the halls at Wartburg you look at and think they should be playing sports, but none of them have any interest. Not saying those kids would make big impacts, but they would add depth and that matters in football by being able to keep guys fresh late in games.

I got to watch the replay and the boys up north in blue played great the first half and just looked totally gassed in the second half. Oneida looked to substitute pretty heavy in the trenches while Wartburg's line was playing both ways all four quarters and that makes a big difference. Oneida has more overall talent and way deeper roster and lets be honest the program is in a better spot at this current time. Oneida did a great job at offensive half time adjustments and came out running the football with the QB and took control of the game. Polk and Oneida will be a good matchup.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
