This is Coach Dotson at Wise Central, we try to play NE Tennessee teams when we can, always enjoy the competition. I read this forum from time to time to during the season to read about teams that we are playing that season. I just realized I had an old subsription to this forum from about 10 years ago and it still works. KING, were you at Gate City the day we played Cloudland?  It was a close game throughout, and we had a little surge at the end to win by a few. Coach Birchfield has a quality program, much respect for what he does. I didn't have my senior all state PG that day, but my freshman PG had a big day scoring-wise for us.  I wish we were a little bit closer and could play Cloudland during the regular season.  We played Hampton the next day with all our kids (minus a couple recovering from ACL tears in the spring, one a potential starter or 6th man). I'm not sure if either Cloudland or Hampton were at full strength, but the game with Hampton wasn't as close as the Cloudland game.  Hampton has a lot of pieces though and will be a good team.

Yes I was there.  I thought we played pretty good against you guys.  We were without our starting point guard who tore an acl back in February.  She is definitely our best overall player especially defensively.  I also got to see your all state player against Hampton.  She's got one of the best finishing games I've seen at this level.  I really enjoyed the gate city camp.  It's laid back and fun.  I have twins on the team #1 and #21.

Was the transfer that Unaka got the shooting guard from Elizabethton?  We played Betsy once last year, and seems like she hit about 4 threes against if it's the one I'm thinking about.  I did see somewhere this spring she had an NLI deal.

Yes. Very lethal, especially her step back game.  Very good at getting separation.  She'll be a big fish in a small pond at unaka.  North Greene has a very good post.  She's a double double every game.  The other 4 are solid.  Abingdon has the best post I've seen so far.

She is a load for sure.  Abingdon is a higher classification, but they are in our district, so we are very familiar with them. How did you all do against them? It's always tough to play that second of back-to-backs game against a fresh opponent.

We have a post who could match up with her but she got sick and had to sit for that one.  We stayed with them for most of the game but they wound up winning by 14.  It's been a rough summer for our girls.  We've tried to play the very best competition and experience the growing pains.

Close win over Midway and lopsided loss to northview.  Northview is very quick with good shooters and post game.  Unfortunately there are no contenders for the 1a gold ball in the far east.  I do think that 2 teams from district 1 can make it back down there.  There's no margin for error this year.  We'll be a lot better when Blair gets back but it's alarming how bad we've performed at times during these camps.

That Shields kid is going to absolutely shake the 1A  schools. She knows how to set the game up to win, and she’s a very smart player. That kid is a game changer all the way around. Coaches would be blind to not see that. She will be a nightmare to handle.
North Greene is going to be a tough team. It is going to be a fun season to watch. Looking forward to it.

    • They need more coming than going. Hopefully enough are staying to turn it around and become a place kids want to play for again. Are they stuck in that conundrum from the college game — can’t win without recruiting better and can’t recruit better without winning. Can’t win without better players but can’t keep the good players without winning?
    • He will be ready by start of the season. Conditioning may be a little slow but hes a tough kid. He will make an impact by the end of the season.
    • So you are looking at one tough stretch for an 18 year old?  Seems you are grasping at straws if you think there is much difference between the two.  By the way Taylor was the best running back in the history of McKenzie and he is in the top 10 in 4 career statistical categories in the state.  If you can tell me Mckenzie had a back like that the last two years that took pressure off Surber I might could agree.  We can agree to disagree
    • 2022 McKenzie team had the most talent they’ve ever had at McKenzie.
    • I overlooked Gibson County. They would be team No. 11 for me. I'm going to edit my list, just behind Livingston Academy (which had four state titles, six runner-up seasons and 20 state appearances).
