TSSAA classes

Do you go to 7 classes?

I feel like there will always be shade thrown at the schools who seem to bounce between classifications every couple years. To me Dresden is the one school between 1a and 2a schools that could bounce every few years for enrollment but the the other schools for example Mckenzie, Trenton,Fayetteville, Union City, and possibly South Pitt should never be in 1a and compete against the schools they play against i.e. Gleason, South Fulton,Halls, Greenfield just to name a few.

Not being argumentative, but why not? Numbers are easy to argue, so I can say that similar enrollments between any of these schools determines that they should in fact be in the same class .Unless you wish to argue that the "reward" for doing what everyone should be trying to do best should be the punishment of being placed at a disadvantage to continue success, there's not really a counterpoint.

South Pitt doesn’t compete against Gleason, Greenfield, and South Fulton. Those schools would have to make it to a state championship to compete w south pitt lol. Trousdale Co has won 2A championships being the lowest in the classification, ER was one of the smallest 2A schools and went to state last year. Those schools just have to get better coaching or administrators that care enough to develop their athletes. Anything but 7 Classes.

You proved my point. Gleason and  South Fulton will probaly never compete for a state championship because there will always be schools that are 2x the size. Gleason had one of there best seasons last year and didn't even make the playoffs

Your proven my point. These schools all have similar enrollment but half are in one class and the others in a higher class. I don't pay alot of attention to the bigger classes but I don't think they have the gap from top to bottom like 1a. Just saying maybe we look at doing something different for the smaller schools.

If you combined Gleason and Greenfield, you still have a 1A team. I think the issue is simple, there are too many schools in West Tennessee. The drive between Halls and Ripley High schools are around 20 minutes. The drive between Gleason and Greenfield High Schoosl is around 20 minutes. How long does it take to get from Bradford to Greenfield? Around 10 minutes max.

Meanwhile, the drive from Shiloh/Counce to Hardin County is around 20 minutes.

That's a topic that needs to be saved for a rainy day. I wouldn't cater to those schools and feel bad for them, when I personally think there's an issue that needs to be addressed.

And if your son is athletic in weakley co…you send him to Dresden or Westview.

1a 0-374

2a 375-541

Cap 1a at 320 and that would solve alot of problems. 3a also has some issues but not as bad as 1a. Reclasify ever year to its not that hard to get enrollment.

I would lower 2a to 500.

1a thru 4a needs to be tighter after you get to 5a numbers it's really irrelevant after 1100 kids or more. Money plays a bigger issue then. That would create more competitive competition. Who on This thread doesn't think that having Mckenzie and Huntingdon in the same region like they use to be would not be more compelling to watch? Or Trenton and Union City battling it out for a region title? Then the small schools would have a shot to make it to a Championship game.

0-320 would still have south pitt and Dresden in 1A…coalfield is the 4th smallest school in 1A and they contend every year.

I agree 100% .. I would like to just add the TSSAA was looking hard into going to 5 divisions last year . By doing so they brought down the 1A numbers 350 something and combined 2A-3A, 4A-5A with new enrollment numbers where no school had double the enrollments.. I cant recall what their numbers were.. but in this scenario it only screwed 6A schools travel times as they are the least in our state . Most people don’t understand the mass difference in the top 10 and bottom 10 of 1A . Not a big difference in top 10 1A and top 10 2A
