. .  . this is football . . . Stay tuned for a midweek announcement.  Lakeway has made  a “home run” hire.  After an extensive search, they have reeled in a head football coach from the elite football incubator known as Georgia!

Looks like practice does make perfect and the Bobs and Dr. Cline have exceeded everyone in White Pine’s high expectations, including GridironG.

We are so excited to welcome home one of Tennessee’s own, a local boy who has made good thanks to his high school football coach and his own abiding faith.   His life has been blessed, but we believe the best is yet to come!

Is it Ironside.

I think there is potential for the Lakeway program to have success. This looks like a homerun hire. I hope he stays with the program or is allowed to stay with the program. I have no clue what the situation is that has made coaches leave after short stints at Lakeway. I hope he can stay and build up the program.

No, not Ironsides.   Lakeway has hired Coach Gregg Vandagriff (recently of Prince Academy near Athens, Georgia.).

Vandagriff plans to  gather some talented assistant coaches,  and together they will launch a new era in Lakeway Christian Academy football.

Hope they keep Jay Lowery around, best coach and quality man of god.

Wow. Read about the new coach this morning. I’m pretty sure he beat my beloved Big Red a few years ago pretty handily. We went on to win the championship. Good for Lakeway!

Realistically where are all of these transfers going to come from?   How many players are going to sign up for an hour one way commute?  What Sevier County players are going to leave for Lakeway?  Greenville?

in theory it sounds great but it is not an overnight build.

Your memory is correct.  In 2023 Prince  Avenue was having difficulty filling out a full schedule and ended up playing some terrific out of state school who figured they could beat them.
A very good Baylor Red Raider team lost to Coach Greg Vandagriff’s Wolverines.

BAYLOR SCHOOL 35           Prince Avenue Prep 42

    • Not sure how many officials Jackson has sent to state because I can honestly careless about D-2 basketball, unless USJ or TCA participates in the state championship in Cookeville. However, in the last 3 years, Jackson had sent officials that have all officiated the boys tournament in Murfressboro. Obviously, they can't call the girls state tournament games that involved the "Jackson schools" that are in the association, but not sure why they've done the boys and not the girls. But there hasn't been an official that has participated in the girls tournament that I'm not familiar with in terms of names.
    • There was one bald young white guy. Not sure where he was from, but he was the absolute worse.
    • The west tennessee association officials, one was at D2 tournament and two were at D1 boys. Not sure why none had girls.
    • Actually, I was there, and I agree, officials were terrible for girls and boys. In my opinion, 3 or 4 players should not foul out in a game on that stage. However, I stand by South Gibson will struggle until they can score. Thats just my assessment and opinion. As good as Dunn is, she's not a point guard and her being the primary ball handler has taken away from her scoring which they need.
