Kevin, I greatly appreciate your response. It means a lot that you take the time out of your day. I also admire the fact you had to let everyone know you are the superintendent. Middle management is difficult.

also, the O in wompuscat was a play on words here on the “T” that dates back to before your time here trying to peddle another home run/splash/bomb diggity hire. But hey, again, I admire the fact you have taken the time to rally the masses, and boy do I mean masses, of folk that follow LCA athletics.

I also would like you remind you that one truth of life that will help you tremendously… whether that be in your stately halls, your leadership meetings with the 712 other chiefs at LCA, or just the usual cult, er stakeholder meetings… the worst people in the world are the unintelligent who think they are the smartest in the room. While your efforts are to be applauded, anyone with a modicum of sense can realize this is you. It’s sad, it’s futile and it also paints a beautiful picture as to why coaches don’t walk away from your program.

They. Run.

Good luck next year in your search for coaching replacements. I’m sure it’ll be a home run.

While your efforts are to be applauded, anyone with a modicum of sense can realize this is you.” says Wompuscat.

Once again Wompuscat, gather a  “modicum” of senses and realize that GridironG  is not your “Kevin”.   I’ve dropped several hints in multiple posts, but  you have clearly overlooked all of them.  Remove your blinders.

However,  your fixation on “Kevin”  is a real curiousity to me, and your negativity towards this fledgling football program evokes a green aura of envy.

I’d love to know what aspect  of Tennessee high school football warms your heart and puts a smile on your face.

I prefer my programs that do things the right way, Kevin. Ones that don’t hide behind the Lord, while casting lots in the synagogue parking lot. Read: hypocrites, as I’m sure that you aren’t the most adept at comprehension.

Just like you pretending that a grandma, has a checklist, has photo from press conference for your newest and latest hire. All while talking about how fabulous a calculus teacher is in the classroom in the Cult.

again, there’s a reason that coaches… in multiple sports, RUN from your school. And you can bet other coaches read this forum, and I hate to tell you… they talk. You’re doing nothing but adding to the lore of what a joke you are as a leader. But I am not banging that drum yet… as middle management being called a leader is rich. Not quite Bob rich… but alas still rich.

I’ll let you get back to your cornbread, Grandma.

Lakeway is very fortunate to have over 300 young men playing varsity football at three nearby public high schools.  Like most East Tennesseans, Jefferson County and Hamblen County residents are unapologetic football fans, and they love nothing more than a winning football team and that starts with a winning football coach!

Coach Greg Vandagriff is a proven winner. He  has an amazing track record: 107 wins and only 16 losses in nine seasons at Prince Avenue Christian School located near Athens, Ga.  His winning reputation forced his football team to play up and against larger schools and VERY stiff competition including schools like #2 Baylor in Chattanooga, TN, the #3 team in South Carolina, and the  #6 team in North Carolina.  Vandagriff has won his three state championships in a tough neighborhood, Georgia. Georgia high school football is not powder puff football. Georgia high school football teams rank up there at the top with states like Texas and California.

With the recent passing of Universal School Choice  in Tennessee and the real possibility of TSSAA allowing a “one time student transfer”,  soon more East Tennessee students will be able to choose to attend Lakeway Christian Academy for the excellent academic programs as well as the non-academic programs that Lakeway offers. When “one time transfer” is permitted, athletes now attending another school will not be penalized if they choose to transfer and attend Lakeway.

This year the “stars have aligned” favorably for the Tennessee student athlete who aspires to be a winner on a winning football team.

We welcome coach Greg Vandagriff back to his roots in Tennessee and look forward to a new beginning.   It is easy to imagine that the best is yet to come.  Go Lions!

Banking on the one time free transfer rule is futile for building a football program.

Especially considering they will do just like the coaches that put on a Lions pullover… they will run for the exits.

Unless they take calculus. Then they will stay forever, fabulously.

Never underestimate a woman, Wompuscat, especially a Grandma.  I make a checklist daily, don’t you?

The  photo you referenced was grabbed online from  a Standard Banner post, but my phone is full of videos and  photos from that same press conference. Sadly, I don’t know how to post them on Coach T directly from my phone. I don’t believe your friend Kevin was even in town that day, unless he really was was hiding behind the Lord  at the press conference. I heard he was hob nobbing with the governor that day.

As for Jay Lowery, my grandsons will vouch for his ability to teach high school boys calculus and make it taste good, without even adding sugar!    Who  agrees, that is a skill rarer than being a winning football coach?   Another Lakewsy home run!

Thanks for the meal suggestion, Wompuscat. Cornbread sounds good on a cold February day.  Think I’ll make some onion & potato soup to go along with it.

Still interested in knowing about “your” football programs that do things the right way.   I am currently in a learning mode, but for now
the kitchen calls.

This is really to the point it’s not even that fun anymore for me. Getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed man like you is really beyond me, but sometimes I like to slap around the low hanging fruit anyway. So, alas, I’m still here replying.

It’s kinda funny that you have all this inside info, even down to Middle Management Kevin’s schedule, as a grandmother. But doubling down when confronted with your stupidity is an admirable trait some would say. I’m not some, but I do admire a dog returning to its vomit. See: me still replying to you, Kevin.

But back to topic… I do have a few last questions.  Does Dennis Barker just have a template he reverts back to whenever you all hire such a home run as in this “local” guy? Probably makes it easier with turnover the way it happens so often. Plus with the 15 people you all interviewed over a 1.5 month process… just makes it easier to plug and play the names.

Does this new guy have the Madden acumen the last guy had? And has he taken a look around at the roster and realized he’s not in Georgia anymore, Toto? And how do you think he will respond to answering to the 514 people above him in the organizational flow chart?

Thanks for taking time out of your day to answer, Kevin.

Thankfully,  No Madden in his resume!

Fortunately this new hire, Greg Vandagriff, is pure “gridiron” football!   Work, sweat, get better everyday, outsmart Goliath when you must, but work, work, work.

Wompuscat, we don’t know each other, yet  but I have a strong feeling you are going to really, really like this new coach.  He’s a guy’s  guy and will navigate the Lakeway organizational chart like a good running back would.  He’ll look for the holes,  but I have a feeling he will not hesitate to plow over the toughest defense to reach the goal line.

Lakeway’s program is still in its infancy.  The dismal win loss history is normal in the early years.  Fortunately the stars are now aligning in Lakeway’s favor.

Coach Vandagriff has written a book titled, “The Power of the Patch”.  It’s his life story of rising  above a troublesome childhood and  becoming the father and man he always wanted in his life, but never had.   He gives all credit to his faith in God (instilled by his grandmother).  He credits his high school football coach with molding his character and work ethic.  The book is now available on Amazon.

I’ve read the book.  It’s a tearjerker, if you are a sentimental grandma.  Lakeway has been blessed to begin a new football chapter with a head football coach whose goals are aligned with the school’s.

Wonderful. I’m sure some school in Georgia will be happy to get him back after next year. I just feel bad for him and your alls copiers, he will have to print off 500 copies when he resigns for each of his bosses.

And I love a coach peddling his books, or having his superintendent do it for him. Again, great job winning the press conference. But it takes a little more than that.

Thanks for the shout out!  You are such a “Pollyanna” Wompuscat!

A ray of sunshine on a gloomy day.

I hear there are a few disappointed lads out there in Coach T land who applied for the Lakeway coaching job and didn’t land an interview or only received a courtesy  chat.  If you should know any of them, please share your cheerful thoughts with them.  Bring them some  sunshine!

Meanwhile I am patiently  waiting to hear all about “your” programs that do things the right way.  You have GridironG’s undivided attention.

Funny, absolutely astonishingly funny that you bring this up. You want to know why you can’t truly hire local, Kevin? Because anyone within a 50 mile radius realizes you and the other Keystone Kops aren’t worth the inflated non-TCRS pay. You would think a man, not a grandma mind you, would have enough intellectual fortitude to be honest with yourself.

remember how I told you coaches talk? After two round of interviews, you were still making calls asking, no, begging if anyone knew of anyone that would take this extremely overrated job. You, the other 700 chieftains, the Easter bunny and Burt Reynolds can claim whatever you want about this job. It’s a horrible job. Talent isn’t there. The infrastructure to get said talent will never be there, and the biggest deterrent of them all, is you. It’ll always be you. That and the school is located off exit 4 in White Pine. The talent you need to be competitive couldn’t find LCA with a map, google maps, Apple Maps or a carrier pigeon.

But again, the common denominator is you. The suck always points back to the man pretending to be a grandma peddling yet another hire. It’s a broken record.

And you can bet your last dollar, and Bob’s, that when this guy bolts after a year of putting up with you and your other charlatans… your pool of candidates will be worse than this go round. Because coaches talk. And your immature shtick is giving plenty of conversational meat and substance. Unlike your alls calculus program.

Womp,

You’ve been commenting since 2022, and you’ve talked poorly about nearly every program in East TN. (Clinton, Greenback, Bearden, Powell, Maryville, MoEast, MoWest….the list goes on). If you hate high school athletics so much, maybe join On3 for college sports?

GridIronG is right about the schedule, the school promoted it on their social etc….

LCA athletics is definitely top 3 in their district (CAK, Grace, LCA), and they are only 5 years old. Football may take off, or may not. However, the school is definitely moving in the right direction and your insults don’t change the reality.

Well looks like someone has done their homework on the ole Wompus cat. They teach you in 1L to dig it up, baby. I’m not familiar with on3 as high school athletics are more up my alley. What can I say? I like a good prep matchup. I’ll look into On3, though. As some guidance is always nice.

LCA athletics could be on the right path, you are correct. But… counselor, evidence with the current leadership points to a good possibility that the ship will hit an iceberg, a Weigel’s, or might even just end up at the depths of Cherokee lake. 714 people grabbing the wheel never ends well.

But, cross examining your talk about my discussions on here in the past. I’ve opined multiple times about multiple programs because, in no particular order:

1. There was a thread about it.
2. Someone mentioned those programs in a thread.
3. I thought, what the heck, let’s dance.

What I have never experienced, though, is a middle manager superintendent pretending to be a grandmother with a backstory on his latest flash in the pan- try and win the press conference local coach. He has peed all over this thread and told the throng of Lakeway fans it’s raining. That… Matlock, I’ve never seen until this week.

This latest coach/author might possibly work out. He might just grab that top 3 in the district banner that if you all beg nicely, could be hung at the Taco Bell. What’s more likely, though, is he walks into Mrs. Doubtfire’s office after next season after realizing his talent is worse than Gate City Middle School- and not a chance with the current infrastructure to ever change it… with a resignation letter that claims he has “other irons in the fire.” But what do I know? I’m just a On3 level contributor and don’t know anything, or anyone at the high school level.

I have no further questions, your Honor.
