Idunk2
Oliver Springs @ #5 is a complete joke. Saw them at Livingston tourney. They would finish third or fourth in district 7aa behind Jackson Co and Livingston. Looks like Swamp voted way too many times to get his team in the top 5. OS is a good team, but have to prove they can beat mediocre teams at Xmas tourneys before I put them any higher than honorable mention !!! ParisRiverRat
What is up with Jackson County being so low???? Just because they have 4 or 5 losses, they didn't get the votes, they have played some very strong out of state competition, along with Shelbyville. Come tourney time, they are still the team to beat. Congrats to all teams, but this poll means nothing...... GET UP 'VIEW

sportsphan
Polls mean nothing. Every team plays in tournament play. Even in state tournament, the way a team was ranked gives them no seeding in the tourney. Last year in the state number one played number two in the first round. Polls are made based on records. Many of the teams with 3-4 losses have played quality teams. The real test comes in February. Who really cares who is ranked right now? It is all political anyway. McMinn is not even ranked. They have two losses to Oak Ridge. They could have played weak single a and aa teams instead. Just wait and see who wins in the end.
OS91
OS lost to Livingston Academy by 10 on their homecourt in a Tourney. Its true you didnt see OS best basketball at the LA tourney, but OS is very deserving of this ranking consider the schedule they have played. Making a coment that OS couldnt finish in the top 3 in 7AA is a more of a joke. OS would beat LA and Jackson County at Oliver Springs ( ask Mcmminn Central who is the best overall AA team) and in my opinion at least tie for 1st place in 7AA. Also, OS has beaten McMinn Central, Giles County, Jackson County should be number 2 in this poll and McMinn Central #1. Teams like Westview, Gibson, and Obion havent played the schedule that MC, JC, LA, and OS have. It goes to show you records mean everything to uninformed media. Think about jackson County losses have come against- Shelbyville by 2 ( top 15 team in country), Clarkrange ( top 3 team in A), Oregon City, OR ( top 10 team in country by 10) also lost to a another top 30 in U.S. program in Wilmington , DE. tourney. If teams are going to be penalized for playing schedules in the AP, then throw it out. For instance look at Alcoa- the Lady Tornadoes at #7 have played one of the weakest schedules in basketball and have only 2 losses. When Alcoa finally did play top notch competition - Oak ridge they were blown off the court by almost 60. Instead of won loss rankings being the emphasis of rankings, schedules should be just as important
ParisRiverRat
Oliver Springs doesn't want any part of Westview, Gibson County, or Obion County. They would finish 4th in District 13AA. I can only dream of playing Oliver Springs at the state tourney!!!!!
OS91
and has arguably has the best womens high school basketball in the country, there needs to be improvement in voting by the media. It seems that for one they dont want to take the time to study and exam teams from across the state and too easily just look at a won/loss record. The first AA poll clearly demonstrates a poor grasp of knowledge a AA basketball by some of the AA voters.
iamoz
I think the AP ought to adopt the Strength + Success Ranking on this site as their official "poll" and be done with it. OS91
and East TN I'm not taking anything away from the three programs, but Westview, Obion, and Gibson havent played a tough schedule and I hope for your sake that doesnt backfire on them when things heat up come tourney time when teams like LA< OS< JC, Giles, and MC are already battle tested and veterans.... That was more of my point... sorry if that ruffled feathers. But the lack of scheduling tough competition will be a weakness to the three teams from 13AA come tourney time. Look at your schedules and even try to debate that one of these teams have played top notch competition or teams that have a legitimate chance at winning the state chamipionship. ???????????
