According to Bill Lane of the Kingsport Times-News, Snyder stared coaching at Boones Creek High School in 1960 or 43 years ago. He coached at Boones Creek until it was consolidated with Sulphur Springs and Fall Branch to form Daniel Boone High School. So in a way he has been at the same school the whole time. Snyder is second in the state in victories. In first place is the timeless Charlie Bayless at Happy Valley.

Jerry Peters at MUS has won something like 850.

Opperman, I contacted Bill Lane of the Kingsport Times-News concerning the coaching victories. It apperars that Snyder is the second winningest active boy's coach in the state. The following is the text of Bill's response to me:

CHHS72:

I believe you're right about Jerry Peters of MUS having over 800 wins. But it's my understanding that when the research was done a few years ago, it was determed he had coached both boys and girls teams. The record is combined.

We usually stipulate that Snyder is the state's second-winningest active boys coach, but we haven't listed it this way in a while.

Bill

All of us in Northeast Tennessee know that Snyder is not second all time because we have had four of the top six in state history. Buck Van Huss had 1,201 wins as a boys coach.

In any event 800 wins is a major accomplishment and should be honored. My hat is of to Coach Snyder.

    • Never said I thought it was a smart decision. I'm scratching my head at it too.
    • If he wanted to play QB he should have either went to Heritage or William Blount and had a real good chance there. In stead he'll be exactly what he was going to be at Maryville. They already know who their QB is going to be in 2025 and it ain't going to be him.
    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
