no offense to cumberland co. and region 5-3a, but he is right, this region maybe the weakest in 5a, i mean just look at this region, it was totally dominated in the playoffs last year in region 4, even blackman beat you guys #1 team, cookeville. but this is not a flame, just a mere observation, but lincoln county can bring some respect to region 3 if they have a year like everybody thinks they can.

CCHS2002's predictions of the region would be about right if he switches Cumberland County and Franklin County. Franklin County didn't lose a whole lot and will be giving Lincoln Co. a run for their money this year. Cumberland County lost around twenty seniors and will be lucky to win very many.

As for the region being weak to an extent that is true. The biggest problem they face is matching up with the BEST 5A region in the state. If they matched up with another region they would win more ball games in state. This year there are two teams to watch in Lincoln Co. and Franklin Co. in the playoffs. Franklin Co. won't get out of the second round, but I think Lincoln Co. will get to at least round three for a great game vs. Oaklnd/Riverdale. Just how I see it. <_<

of all the Jets seniors last year, a majority of them had started since their soph. year, right? anyway, i dont see them being as good this year, as they were last year. those 3 years of molding together is gone, and now fresh, unexperienced faces will have to step up and try to play well. granted it will be easier in one of the weaker regions, its still a big, big task. i am saying with they lose to Coffee Co, knocking them to 5th in the region, and outta playoff contention

It's obvious and expected that Cookeville gets no respect on this board. But that is understandable because last year was the first year they really did anything. But it was only the second year in this region. They did defeat Franklin Cty and Lincoln Cty along with Cumberland Cty. They defeated Smyrna in round one of the playoffs and yes Blackman defeated Cookeville in the second round but it was in overtime.

Cookeville lost several seniors, but they have five starters coming back on defense and probably more team speed than they have had in years. Buckner their 1000 yard rusher is returning and probably will sign with Vanderbilt. I agree that Lincoln Cty and Franklin Cty. are the teams to beat in this region but don't count Cookeville out. They might slip up and defeat one of these two teams and put the region championship up for grabs. It should be an interesting year.

Good luck to all the region teams- we still have work to do to compete with the boro teams but that day is soon approaching.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
