Yeah he can be stopped. He's OK but he's definately not the best player in Carter County. His work ethic will reflect in his playing this year. You have to have discipline and drive and I don't think he has either one. I'm just guessing but I think that Unaka's Rusty Holtsclaw might be able to handle Tolley this year. Unaka has stayed in the Gym this summer and the whole team is driven to make this a winning year. No doubt that Cloudland will have a good team but so will Unaka. GO RANGERS!!!!!! ;)

I think that both players mentioned are good athletes, but my vote goes to Rusty Chambers. He has a great team to play with, and is a great athlete. I saw some one using the quote "Play Hard, Shake Hands, and Go Home Friends"...I think that is a great mantra for an athlete to have, and Rusty has that attitude 100%. His skills, as well as his attitude, make him one of the best! No, I'm not the president of his fan club, but I am a member!!

Go Rusty!!! ;)

Tolley the best player in Carter County. He's not the best player on the team. That honor goes to Mark Byrd. Take Mark off the floor and his production along with the entire team goes south. As for the best player in Carter County, hands down Rusty Chambers. I covered almost all the Elizabethton games last season but the times I got to see Unaka play Chambers was very good. This season he has a great group of players that play around him. The next three are Lester Bailey, Mark Byrd, and Tim Whaley. These kids play hard and show up for practice everyday. "Year round"

Bristol C. will feature top players in the area in the upcoming week.

Hands down Rusty Chambers All East Tenn 2003,All Conf 2003,All Tournament to go along with District and Region and East Tennessee leading scorer for all classifications.

That is a tough thing to accomplish exspecially as a Junior playing the schedule they played last year.

I guess we will see how good he is come the 21st and 22nd when they have to play Knox Bearden and Greeneville in the hall of fame games then we can actually have this conversation on this thread. Good luck to both players.

Why don't we wait till the end of the season to debate this issue. Rusty is a good player but he has some great teammates who help create scoring opportunities for him. Cody Collins, Derek Cline, Josh Jones, Rusty Holstclaw, Tyler McCann just to name a few of his teammates deserve to be mentioned when it comes to Rusty. I am sure that after last season, that Rusty would give up all the individual awards for a trip to Murfreesboro to play in the state tournament. The way to measure the success of a player is how good he makes the other people play around him. I can assure you that Rusty and the Unaka team don't care who is the best player in Carter County is. Their focus is on making the trip back to Murfreesboro to try and capture a state title for the loyal basketball fans of Stoney Creek. They play some outstanding competition so hopefully they will be ready come tournament time in late February.

Yeah Rusty and all the players listed above a good ball players but they are all guard. Yeah guards are going to be funnier to watch, thats just common sense. What i guess you all want Robbie Tolly to get all there and cross a guy up or do a spin move around a defender! I think its just good enough if he leads his team in rebounds and points. And he will lead his team in rebounds and points! Yeah Mark Bryd is fun to watch and a pretty good ball player. But he isnt a player that can just take over a game and put up 25 to 30 pts. He is a showtimer that will break you down then drive the lane and pass the ball. And who you ask will he be hooking up with? The one and only District MVP Robbie Tolley. As for a few rumors that said that Unaka might have the best chance ever of winning it all. Dont count your chickens before the hatch. The best chance you ever had was when Dugger, Cole, and Collins was there. Yeah the conference teams such as UH, North Greene and from what i heard Hancock, but you still have to get past Cloudland. And if Unaka does some how make it down to the BORO they will find out that teams down there play a much different type of game. In the east its rare to find a 6'4 post, Robbie Tolley for example. He is only 6'4 and he can flat out own a game in the East. But what are you going to do when you face post players that are anywhere from 6'6 to 6'9 with the athletic ability of a guard. Its tough.

I hope that no matter who goes from the East that we are well represented, but we still have a whole season to enjoy before we even think about who will be making the trip. A season is plenty of time for any team to improve and play well. So lets just enjoy the season!

Landers and Unaka win Conference, and Landers repeat as District Champs. As for the Region......ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

notjustafan, I'm not sure you know what being the best means. It is someone that every night goes out and does what it takes to give their team the best chance of winning. That might mean scoring, defending, rebounding, passing, etc. Just because a player has good offensive skills doesn't make him the best. Unfortunately most of the fans and people that pick the awards only look at scoring. The best player must do this each night. Robbie has the skills (offensively) but is very inconsistant. He might show up one night and disappear the next. Have you ever seen him dominate on the defensive end? He probably has the talent to do it but will not. The most consistant player in the county is probably Chambers. Whaley from HV is somewhat like Tolley. He doesn't have all the offensive skills of Tolley but is a lot better defender and rebounder. But like Tolley he has a tendency to not show up. It should be an exciting year in the county for basketball. There shouldn't be a dominating team. HV has more talent than it has in many years and Elizabethton should regroup to have a good team. Hampton might even surprise some people. So like the teams, there's probably not a "best player" in the county. Just a lot of good ones.

    • Hmmmmmm doe dee doe doe……sounds like they are leaving Geenback faster than the lawnmower will go in fifth gear.  Hmmmm….. you can bet the lawnmower on that.
    • West looked solid...excited to see this young group excel
    • When you have a school that right at 200 kids only half are going to be male and to get 25% of them to come out for football is a very hard task. Take away an 8th grade syatem and your you have another hill to climb up. If 5 kids are actually leaving your not going to have enough for practice. Your only chances for wins would be against the weakest of weak teams. At one time Greenback had kids coming across the wall like the Mexican Border and now their leaving town before sundown. A hugh mistake was made on not hiring Ryan back because of his ties to the community and his ability to bring in the right kids, not run them off. The last coach failed because he wasn't one of community so they go out and do it again. I'm sure Coach Clemmer is a good person because I do know people that do like him but he is caught in the middle of a fan base that will not support him no matter what and it could lead to a disaster if that many kids are leaving the program. The person that caused all of this mess has no business on the school board and needs to stick with hiding in the bushes giving out speeding tickets to out of towners coming through.
    • My outsider looking in perspective is Oliver Springs, Coalfield, Rockwood, and Harriman: fill out the top 4 good teams that beat up on the bottom and will all be in a good place to win in the 1st round with one team maybe making it farther. Midway: funnily enough in the middle an alright team that can beat the teams below them but not the top 4 misses the playoffs but still has a decent record. Oakdale, Greenback, Sunbright: round out the bottom each team has its problems and with a rough region and challenging non-conference records may not be pretty. Oakdale graduated lots of talent and experience, Greenback is in all sorts of internal turmoil with their new coach, and Sunbright small roster tough region not tons of Fb played. (Teams could be rearranged with other teams in their groups but this is how I see them finishing)
    • Kids quitting to focus on one sport could be a worry but multi-sport athletes transferring out would damage more than just football so I think the people who made this decision could find out they are going to get burned in multiple ways.
