Double Overtime

My proposal would be to allow each wrestler an opportunity from the bottom in the tiebreaker. If the first wrestler scores in 23 seconds, put 23 seconds on the clock for the second wrestler and allow him an opportunity to score in a shorter amount of time.

The only problem with this system is it rewards "escapability" or bottom wrestling. You could have a match 5-5 with red scoring 2 takedowns and 1 escape while green scored a 2 point then 3 point nearfall. In this scenario green came closer to the definition of what wrestling should be, two legitimate attempts and almost pinning his opponent while red was good on his feet or was able to escape. I do fully understand that takedowns is the focus of the first overtime period. There is no perfect system of breaking ties, but at least both athletes should be given equal opportunity.

Here's a thought... What about a "4th period." Wrestle a full minute, no matter who scores 1st, just who's winning after the minute is up. The Refs. would have to be more strict on stale-mates and stalling to prevent a double OT...Just a thought...any comments ?

One of the best ideas that I've heard. It's quick, easy to understand and it's fair. The wrestlers have been given a minute to decide it on their feet. Can't resolve it there? Lets go to the mat! It would also reward conditioning which is always a plus.

I don't really like the idea of making the refs use stalling calls. Stalling is already extremely controversial and opinionated. I like Luchador's idea, because the wrestlers decide the match instead of the officials.

I had really hoped that this matter would have been solved before this wrestling season. I still hope that it will be taken under consideration soon and something reasonable and fair done about it
