FullCourtPress, LakeRoad boys dominated throughout the season but the girls did not. I watched Lake Road, Hill Crest and Ridgemont girls and wouldn't have turned around for the difference between the three. On any given night any team could beat other. This was obvious in the county and district tournament. Smith was blessed with unreal talent on the the girls and boys team. Let's see if he can dominate again next year. I would think Smith's reputation would hurt him if any big jobs (such as OC) become available. I know for a fact that he is less than respected by his peers. And these coaches talking have achieved far more than Smith has at a higher level.

Coach Smith has a great basketball mind. His teams play hard, they play smart, and they execute. That being said, I don't think he needs to run another high school program until he develops some self control. He has been tossed out of a few junior high games this year for riding officials too hard. When he learns to focus on the game and not the refs, he will be an asset to any program. Until then , he is a liability. That is a terrible shame and waste of a good coach.

Isn't this the same Rick Smith that coached at Clarksburg?? From what I understand, he is lucky to be coaching at Jr. High. No principal in there right mind would hire this ticking time bomb....... :D

Tossed out of games???? If he was tossed out of games what games were they and would he not have to serve a suspension??? I do not recall him missing any games. If he was tossed out would it not be TMSAA's responsibility to make him sit out(is there a fine)? He is just an outstanding coach and a strict disciplinarian everyone else is just jealous of his success in putting Lake Road back on top!!!!

I think I see smoke ;)

Which one is smith? I dont remember any assistants when we played up there accept the younger lady, and i figure her name is not "Rick" If he was thrown out of the game here in rutherford, I know the officials and they are TSSAA officials. How would no one have heard about it? The officials have to report it....I think??

hey fullcourt press...where did that smoke come form?? ;)

hahahahaha

Why don't you leave a great Coach alone!!! He is an excellent X's and O's man who happens to be very emotional(bobby knight)!!! He is also a great motivator and if you do something wrong he will let you know. I would rather have a coach to tell me what i am doing wrong than to keep letting me make mistakes. He only expects best because he is the best. :justwrestle:

If you can't run with the big DAWGS then just stay on the porch and cry. :justwrestle:

Watch the use of "great" in describing a coach. There are only a few great coaches. This guy may be a good coach. But, calling him a great coach belittles the ones that actually are "great" coaches. He has to earn that distinction. If he has the support of people like you and has shown that he can control his temper, then maybe he'll get the chance to become a great coach. Until then, considering his past problems, he has work to do to prove that he deserves a chance at the high school level.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
