State Duals

Texas,

Agreed. Until a team beats some of the best teams in their division, they can't expect higher seeds at the State Duals. Papbear-If CBHS beats the top team from either the Nashville or Chattanooga regions, they would deserve to be separated from the top seed from the other region. I would even venture to say that a Purple Wave victory over FR or Mc should send the top seed from the East or Middle out of the West's pool. Do you face the top team from the East or Middle before the season is out? You acknowledged what has to happen: You have to beat the best.

The state duals are not a blind draw. The top four finshers from the past year are placed, then the other teams are placed according to thier geographic locationaway from close regions. This is proably why region eight sees region Bradley or Soddy in the first round. Two years ago this was not done the three and four teams were switched up. It was done last year, I expect it to be done this year. If a team does not make it back to statethat placed the year before(Bradley, Soddy,Science Hill, or Clarksville) which ever team is representing that region would still hold the same place in the bracket. I can not speak for DII, they had a new format last year.

This is according to the TSSAA website--

1998-99: First round-Bradley 50 Houston 26, Finals-Bradley 33 Clarksville 27

1999-00: First round-Clarksville 53 Houston 21, Finals-Clarksville 36 Bradley 25

2000-01: First round-Bradley 47 Houston 28, Finals-Bradley 32 Clarksville 25

2001-02: First round-Soddy 54 Bolton 9, Finals-Soddy 35 Bradley 30

2002-03: First round-Bradley 47 Collierville 25, Finals-Bradley 42 Soddy 24

That's five years in a row where the region 8 team has been pitted against the eventual winner. Of course, most people didn't expect Soddy to win in 2001-02, but it's still a little weird.

Our first year at the duals (2001) we were welcomed to Clarksville with a 63-3 clubbing at the hands of Soddy-Daisy. Jon Edmonds won 2-1. I often said the only determining factor in whether or not they could have shut us out repeatedly would have been how many times Jon could squeeze out that victory.

That kind of greeting was perfectly in line with my sense of justice and fair play. We were the new guys and needed to get treated as such.

Right now, Bradley and Soddy are the class of division I. They have consistently, year in and out, put quality teams on the mat. They deserve, in my opinion, to be separated in the brackets. The rest of us (of whom SHHS may not even be a part this year) are still aspiring. The road to the duals finals goes through those two programs. In the last two years, all of us have crashed and burned there. Right now, I'm just trying to enjoy consistent success at the regional level.

Steve and Steve, you guys are the real deal. I just hope one day soon I can swap ironman war stories with the legman.

The duals tourney should be set up like any other tourney in that the best two teams should be on opposite sides of the brackets. This gives the other contenders a chance to upset one of the best on the way to the finals. This year Bradley and Soddy are clearly the best two teams. If there was some consensus as to who was the third best team, they should be on the same side of the bracket as the number two team. Nobody wants to see a blowout in the finals, especially if due to politics. The object is to WIN the tourney, not just try to get placed high.

    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
    • You really mean the Price twin boys and Lyin Larry.
    • Now that wouldn’t surprise me a bit. That has been going on heavily since the days of Larry Kerr @ AC. One of the major reasons CC has never really had much at all, barring about 2 seasons in football. AC milks it dry.
