I guess the Hiller-Geismar match and Dunning-Manson match were key for Father Ryan. Wish I could have been there, I bet it was exciting. Looks like several very close matches. Maybe we will see some rematches in Chattanooga in the finals.

The Ryan vs Baylor was not as close as the score. Dunning was in control the whole match as was Hiller. If Hiller had decided to stay on his feet and go takedowns the match could have been much worse. Ryan sent out two JV kids at the last two weight classificatons.

Mtnman------while wins in the Hiller/Geismar and Dunning/Manson matches were integral to Ryan's win, I think the "real key" was what happened in the first three matches. 189 was the first match. Simpson gambled and bumped his upper weights with Stark moving up from 171 to 189, Adams from 189 to 215 and Lomas from 215 to heavyweight. Stark came out smoking, wrestled aggressively from the start-------not cautiously as you might expect from someone giving up that weight adavantage-----and came away with a major decision. Adams did the same and came away with a huge pin. Adams winning a decision while giving up that much weight is one thing, but I was surprised by the pin. This put Ryan up 10-0 and took some pressure of Lomas who , from the looks of the Baylor heavyweight was at a real size disadvantage. Lomas came away with a decision and a 13-0 Ryan lead. The wins by these three guys allowed the juggling Simpson did at the lower weights to work. No disrespect meant to marquee wrestlers like Hiller and Dunning, but the lunchpail guys at the end of the lineup------Stark, Adams and Lomas------ were the key to Ryan's win in my mind.

cbq------minor disagreement. I wouldn't consider Aaron Bateman a JV wrestler. He was hurt early in the season and could not wrestle. He started several matches for Ryan after Christmas and his availability at 152/160 allowed Simpson to bump his upper weights the way he did. If you check Ryan's match results, the upper weights in the Baylor match, including Bateman at 160, is the lineup Ryan used against Overton. And Aaron was certainly not "sent out" . He was going to wrestle 160 from the start with Mayo at 171. It was not until after Bateman's match that the contest was no longer in doubt and Simpson sent in Garrett at 171-----Bateman did not win win, but by avoiding a pin, left the spread at 7 going in to the last match. Had he lost his match by more than a decision, the match could still have been tied/won by Baylor with a pin at 171 and I feel certain Mayo would have been on the mat against Vaughn.

I'll make another prediction. BC, SD, McCallie, Baylor and ND should all make reservations for the next two years in Clarksville.

Not too hard to predict either, but "good luck to Laxton" with 10, or 9? seniors leaving. By tournament time they will be a well oiled machine.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
