Eric Westmoreland was a great one...saw him a little more than I wanted to in the 1994 playoffs while I was on the sidleine documenting how he overwhelmed our defense.

all of whom are considered some of the best to strap it on in this state.

As far as Smyrna goes we have had a few good ones. Luke Powell was an all american at Stanford. Larry Daniels would be playing on Sundays if he didn;t get into trouble.

To any Nashville Overton fans out there & anybody else in the Metro area a name that I remember being a tough football players was Derrick Bottoms back in the late 80 early 90's. He was probably the toughest guy I knew. He didnt like anybody when he played. He played with so much emotion it was crazy. I saw him get into altercations with coaches on the other team when plays would go out of bounds. He was a competitor. He could have played at Alabama but chose baseball over football. He was drafted in 1990 by the Astros out of high school & went that route.

A couple more old Overton names: Brandon Wharton (UT Basketball player), All of the Hord brothers, Billy Cunningham (Vandy), Keith Davis(UT), Fruit Bell, Melvin Peacock, Joe Bell, Ray McGowan, & the list goes on. Anybody remember any of those names?

Hubert Simpson, fomerly of the McMinn County Cherokees, was a starter at UT. He was a great guy, until things changed, but we are talking about high school players. Yes, I think he was one of them. Also, Shazzon Bradley, All-State in wrestling and football.

Yea Shazzon won state his senior year and was undefeated. He played on the Tennessee team that beat Notre Dame. "Miracle at South Bend"

Dante Hickey from Cleveland High School- The most dominating player i ever saw in high school. He could do it all.

 

Keith and Kevin Cobb also from Cleveland High School- Probably one of the best 1-2 punch at RB in Tn High school history.
