1A Swain County defended their home field here in Bryson City North Carolina with a hard fought win over Motown West. This game was a huge win for Swain has Morristown has the size and speed to win alot of games this season.

Keys of the Game, Swain had three great Scoring drives and one major fumble return for a TD to win this game. Motown used it's Speed to burn up the field on a 90+ yard Kickoff return and two scoring drives of it's own. Motown did have some good shots of tying this game up late a dropped pass that would have scored late in the 4th had to hurt. And Motown moved the ball down inside Swain's 15 when they lost control of the ball on downs with a minute left in the game.

Morristown Fans, those of ya'll that made the trip, what do you think of Swain's Stadium and field? Lord knows we love our Football over here too.

Good luck on the rest of the season!

Kevin

lovely town and beautiful stadium and field

well-coached, disciplined, in-shape team

motown needs to remember we lost 3 out of our first 4 games and went to the state finals last year

I don't know if it will happen this year but the trojans never gave up and it was good to see the defense start to tighten up some and watch the offense do their two minute drill to drive for the score before the half

good luck to swain county the rest of the year

One of my questions about Swain has already been answered with the Shuler posts. Tell me more about Swain Co. football and prep football in general in that part of the country. I know some people who used to joke about UT signing a 1A QB when it signed Heath Shuler way back in the day. They weren't joking much after his great career, though. There must be some good football there with a 1A beating a 4A from our state.

Swain County is a 1A school with a rich football history, way back in the day Swain played up at the 2A level and won one 2A State title back in 79 with less than 500 kids in school. Back in 85 Swain dropped to the 1A level and won State titles in ’85, 88,89,90 and 01 with runner up status in 93 and 95 this season Swain has the team that could put title number 7 on the board. Swain has a winning percentage of over .700 in the playoffs in NC since 72.

Swain plays in the Smoky Mountain Conference and let’s just say there may not be a conference with more history in the nation than right here in the mountains of NC. At the 1A level Robbinsville has 12 State titles, Swain 5, Murphy 4 (Home of Carl Pickens) with Rosman Swain Murphy and Robbinsville losing a total of 7 or 8 other shots at championship rings. That’s not bad at any level. Then if we go back even to the 50’s and 60’s the SMC has state titles with Andrews too.

Now back in the late 60’s and 70’s and up to 84 Swain, Murphy, Franklin(Shawn Bryson ring a bell?) and Sylva Webster (Remember some Streater kid leading the vols back in the 70’s? He was from Sylva) all played 2A ball. In this time period the 2A conference won 8 state titles with Robbinsville chalking up State titles in the 1A ranks. We love our football over here too.

Back to Swain, the Maroon Devils have always scheduled up larger teams, it’s a have to case and we win our share of them too. This year Swain still have left two 3A schools and one more 4A school to play before conference time begins. Not many 1A schools can say the same.

RBS, you were right this was a good time to catch Motown.
