Mo west at Mo east

This is a big game for both teams. Right now, East and West are tied for 2nd place in Region 2. The winner will remain 1/2 game behind Greeneville (who should pick up their 3rd region win over Volunteer). The loser, though, will fall to 4th place; 1 1/2 games behind Greeneville and 1/2 game behind 3rd place Cherokee (who should beat Crockett). The loser will also have an uphill battle to remain in the hunt for a decent playoff spot as both teams still must play Greeneville and Cherokee. That's important because at the end of the year, the 3rd and 4th place teams will probably have to travel to Tennessee and Sullivan East in the first round. Not a pleasant prospect as the Vikings and Patriots are playing very well right now.

East has finally found some offense in the last two weeks albeit against lesser competition than they faced earlier in the year and have gained some much needed confidence. West, on the other hand, needs to find their offense as they have failed to score the past two games (the touchdown against the Patties came thru special teams). Hopefully, they will have used their open date to develop an effective passing game to balance out their attack.

I look for both teams to come out sky high at the game's start and the score may even be tied at the half. West still appears to have more more talent, however, and should pull away in the 4th quarter.

West 30 East 14

The excitement seems to be building in the thriving megalopolis of Morristown. Both teams are up for this one and should prove to be an exciting time. Look for both teams to come out swinging when the bell sounds. Too bad they couldn't arrange for Michael Buffer to come out and announce the line-ups. Arrive early, seats will fill fast.

Tonight is THE game for both teams as well as the fans. And I agree that you better get to Burke-Toney early 'cause it has always been standing room only when these teams meet. Some of the sidebars to the game tonight...

Overall, West leads the series 18-14 but before the current streak, East led 14-12.

East desparately wants to end a 6 year losing streak to the Trojans. No East team has ever gone through a decade without winning at least 4 games since the series began back in the early seventies. In the 2000s, it's West with 4 wins and East with 0...2009 is looming large for the Canes.

West has won 18 straight regular-season conference/region games. That's equivalent to three full seasons without a conference/region loss. The last Region 2 team to beat the Trojans in the regular season was Cocke County in 2001. Ironically, the 18th victory came against Cocke County earlier this year. West will try for another perfect season starting tonight.

Both teams desparately need to win tonight to stay close to league leading Greeneville. But the game means much more than that. Lots of emotion. Lots of pride. A lot at stake. Can't wait!
