All of these people try and argue that DII is down, how so. Who has beaten anyone in DII (other than Ryan) besides a DII team. McCallie, who is probably the best team in Chattanooga after beating Tyner and Central, lost to MBA, one of the best teams in Nashville. Does that make McCallie a down team. CBHS beats strong DI teams in East, Whitehaven and Germantown, but then loses to DII Briarcrest. Does that make them Down? MBA, riddled with injuries, loses the opener to a very tough Trinity team, but since then is undefeated and yet to be beaten by a team from TN. How can you say that they are down. BA beats Oakland and Centennial before losing to two DII teams. No one can argue that DII is down. There is parity in DII this year, something that has not happened in recent years, not a lower level of play.

I agree redtwin.. but you cant leave out mus, who also dominated east and in turn beat bcrest-- theres not a public school in the state that has beaten a super 7 team(and no ryan does not count)-- let them keep talkin, we know how strong our confrence is...

1. RIVERDALE- nationally ranked, great D, explosive Offense

2. DB-state powerhouse, hope to see them play RHS in semis

3.Ooeltwah- great team, coming from best side of bracket

4.Oak ridge-can they beat DB in playoff?

5.Melrose- great athletes

6.Maryville- always good, great coaches

7.Franklin- could be the year they win the semis

8. Antioch- explosive offense

these are some of the teams i know about. i see more mid-state teams throughout the year. Anyone that has smryna in their top ten obviously didn't see the 65 points that riverdale hung on them. they are a two player team and thats it. those two are very good though.

There is no way to even closely list a top 25 in HS Football. There may be a few dominant teams around, but No one has seen or has enough information on all the teams to rank 25 teams in the state. Everyone knows their local scene and surrounding geographic area somewhat--and what they hear or read about the rest of the teams in the state.

While rankings make for fun speculation they are not to be taken to seriously. They are opinions and speculation usually tinted toward your favorite team and teams in your area.

For what it's worth, here are the Top 25 per the power ratings of the four services that rate teams across all classifications.  At least we can probably all agree now that Riverdale is number one:

First rating: Elmo Branam

Second rating: Sonny Moore

Third rating: Ken Massey

Fourth rating: unapproved website

Total at the end

The problem I have with going strictly by the strength of schedule numbers is that it doesn't really tell the whole picture. Most of the 4A teams would more often than not lose to the 5A teams in the poll. I also think that DII is overrated this year... they are sailing on history. Unfortunately, since these teams don't typically play each other it is very difficult to know for sure.

I do think we have a pretty strong consensus that Riverdale is probably the strongest team in the state. After that I don't think the strength of schedule tells it all. Dobyns Bennett looks like the next best team, followed by Maryville. After that it really gets all debatable. Those three teams need to lose before I would drop them from their perches.
