Ooltewah didn't exactly start upper classmen either, they only started 1 senior (Holly Hullander) and 2 juniors (Rachel Henderson and Jessie Watson), the rest were freshman and sophomores. This is a young team that looks to take the enthusiasm of a young team led by their few upper classmen to Finley this week. GO LADY OWLS

i play for ooltewah and was also the other player who didn't take part in tearing down the signs. I played the whole game and i feel like it was a very well played by both teams. Shelbyville is a very young and talanted team and in the years to come i'm sure yall will accomplish much. I also want to state for the whole team that i understand why our team did what they did. For one, I would never and have never stretched in a other teams circle. We usually are a very respectable school and also have much respect for other teams as well. Number 2, i feel like the fans for shelbyville were so disrespectful to us. Before the game some of the guys came up to us and were saying uncalled for coments. It was ridiculous. Aslo during the game i could hear some of the comments from the parents and it just made me disgusted. I feel like both ways each team did their part to ###### the other off. It's done though. Let's forget about it and move on. I wish good luck to the other team next season. thanks>>>>holly

Hey hey... Don't leave out Sarah Veal and Melissa Howell. They started and they're juniors.

wow you guys are arguing about nothing, who cares about any of this, is it really that important, it seems like shelbyville fans are just trying to find something to complain about now that they have lost, if they had won you would not have heard a word out of them oh well, good luck to both teams in the future....skool remember those crazy father ryan fans from a year ago, this game had nothing on those guys haha

OK North... i would like to know where you heard this from because as far as i know being relatively close to the parents and the coach no one asked permission. Ide like to hear some details. Also, what were the Shelbyville players thinking stretching in mid field? Maybe since you have some kind of insight you can help eveyone here out.

last night was a hard fought game on both sides. good work girls (both teams)

As far as the crap involving sportsmanship...i have no arguements against OHS.

When a visiting team warms up in the center circle they are inviting conflict. who in their right mind would take over the middle of the field (pretty much stating that they own the place) wanna talk about unsportsmanship...you dont disrespect a home team by trying to take over their field and post up your signs. If you wanted to hang signs...you shouldve won your other games so that you could host. those are things you give up when you travel.

i have no problem with shellbyville's team...the girls were fine. but the parents and fans were some of the worst ive ever seen. what type of idiot tries to start something up w/ teenage girls...i cant stand parents who argue with kids. what do they think they are going to accomplish? And threaten the OHS coach.

Time to move on. Cya next season shellbyville. Play hard at the quarterfinals Ooltewah.

LilMissy I know exactly who you are... see ya fourth block! GO LADY OWLS! Well, when it all gets down to it, both sides did some inappopriate things. But c'mon, we all know if a visiting team came on to your turf, and posted signs like Shelbyville did, you'd rip them down, WIN OR LOSE!

First Off: Mnewballer yeah I remember those fans and that was AWESOME. That guy had no idea. You weren't there but Ive also had a Soddy father take a swing at me when I was in the pressbox!

Second: The eticate of the game dictates that you DO NOT cross the half stripe pregame for anything other than to retrieve a stray ball. Warming up (as a visiting team especially but even as a host) in the center circle is considered a slap in the face to your opponents. Posting signs around their stadium anywhere other than directly behind your bleachers is another unwritten rule you DO NOT do.

If lilmissy is who I think she is(midfielder #14) then I always assumed she was a Senior?? Oh and Sugababy Im really glad you posted on here. Ive been watching you play for what seems like ages now, and as the unquestioned leader of this team, I feel the rest of the players respect everything you say. Now its time to move on. Houston is not going to lie down...

This is all in the past and the following things have happened:

1) Both coaches apologized to each other for the signs and both coaches understand why this occured and was not a big deal to either.

2) It was not a big deal to either coach. I thought it was a bigger deal for the parents.

3) Both coaches were very supportive of the other team and of the game itself. It was a great game and could have gone either way. Shelbyville has a great player in Hannah Martin and has some very good players around her. They have nothing to be ashamed of but everything to be proud of.

4) Both coaches were proud of their teams and look forward to playing each other for years to come. It was a great game that both teams played their hearts out.

5) I think Ooltewah has shown more class this year in winning and losing then in the past. Such as not celebrating the win over Shelbyville right after the game but going and congratulating Shelbyville on a great game and season. That is why I think the parents cared more about the signs then coaches or players. Because both teams(coaches and players) were very gracious and respected each other's team and how they played the game.

6) In the end it was a great game and both teams respect the other teams playing ability which is the only thing that matters anyways not parents or signs.

There hasn't been a game, either home or away that our girls didn't take the middle of the field to stretch.  Just about all teams that we have played have done the same.....  It was even something that we did when I was in HS Soccer in the North, and as for Shelbyville parents and fans...... If you thought that they were bad yesterday.... don't go to a home game, they'll tear you apart.

I doesn't matter how many games they have done it... it is wrong, especially when you are the visiting team. Plus if Ooltewah went to Shelbyville and hung up sides would the fans "tear them apart" it seams like the answer to that question is yes. Regardless, a great team wins with class. I don't have much of a stand either way on the signs, but the stretching was just rude.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
