In recent history..... 1980- 2004....... how many 1st - 3rd year programs have made the playoffs or won a region championship.

A new school out of Sumner Co. is getting some press time lately, and they are olny a second year program playing against a few very established teams. Which sparks the question.... who if any program(s) have made the playoffs within their 3rd year as a program?

blackman made the playoffs twice in their 1st 3 yrs, with the 1st year being ineligible to make the playoffs because they were playing a jv/freshmen schedule. in their first 2 years of varisty competition blackman won 17 games while making it to the quarterfinals their first time and the 2nd round their 2nd playoff appearance, both losses to end their season were against riverdale

Actually in our region, D2 AA-ME, every team does not make the playoffs. One team goes home---granted its only one team left out, but for a second year program in a strong D2 region(i.e. Knox Catholic, Knox Webb, Notre Dame, BGA) that is good. 2003 season we played a very good Notre Dame team and won to go to the playoffs for the our first varsity year. We were 1-3 in our region and 2-3 in our division last year. This year we are 3-1 in our division and hope to be 4-1 in the division after next week. With the win against Knox Webb we assure ourselves a home playoff game. If we win that game we go to the second round. Pretty good for our second year. We are supposed to move to D2 AAA with MBA and BA etc either next year or in 4 years.

By the way Blackman is in Rutherford County so what team out of Sumner County are you thinking of....Station Camp?

    • Biggest position to fill is QB. Kamden was special. A 1A team that can run and pass is very dangerous.
    • That would have been Coach Benjamin who was his legal Guardian and the DB coach.  I was the LB's Coach that was barely older than the players (I was going to UT for school and had started at Greeneville since my Sophomore year when Z coached there and he asked me to help coach)
    • Going on over a month now and still nothing, rumor mill or not I think a decision needs to be made. Maybe they don’t have anyone wanting it and maybe rumor mill don’t need it they are taking this long to come to an agreement.
    • Gibson County proved last year you can win it all with 6 players and if I’m not mistaken they only played 5 in the championship game. I would expect them to be good by end of season but I think losing Hart is a huge loss.  Summer camp gives teams a preview of what to expect and it’s exciting to see where teams are at. The Fillies return 3 starters and the 6th man that is 6’2” and I think she is going to surprise folks this season.
