Kirby dropped their program last year. Bolton is still Bolton. They are located in the city of Arlington. Alrlington High School is new this year. They were left off of the list but most assuredly will be in our region.

Arlington is a new school in addition to Bolton. They only have 9th grade now.

I don't like this one bit.  I'm all for having 10 EQUAL regions, but only sending the top 3 is pretty tough.  Why can't we take the top 4 from each region?  Does the state tourney HAVE to be a 32 man bracket?  Why not go ahead and make it a 64?  Give the region finalists a first round bye (still leaves 4 byes) and go from there, and make it double elimination!

I really have to agree with Coach Bray here. I thinkit would be ebst to bring the top four and make it double elimination and give the finalists byes. This gives them a reward for winning their region and still gives guys like Jonas the chance to come in and knock of another champ because his coach has him peaking at the right time! But at minimum the tournament has to become double elimination. The pigtail/carry situation is ridiculous! Everyone should have an opportunity to wrestle all the way through.

I believe it was all done by location. They do not care about harder regions or equal regions, they want the region to represent a specific area.

 

I think if they tried to even out the regions to make them all equal power, some Memphis team may end up in Chattanooga's region. It only makes sence to put local teams together in a region. I'd like to see a map of the region locations. Anyone want to draw up a map of where the regional lines are?

 

That said, I'm still happier with a 13 team region 6 than a 24 team region 5. At least we could do regions in 1 day (assuming there are some empty spots.)

Looking at Region 6 enrollment numbers it appears the private schools are going to have the opportunity to demonstrate the adage "quality not quantity". Maybe TSSAA will let the Region 6 private schools form a combined team.

The biggest problem with this entire thing, is the fact that the 4th place kid will not (always) qualify. What should be addressed is the fact that there are several kids from last year that placed 4th in their region and went to state and beat a champion. Gibbs was mentioned earlier, Gonyea has Prisayne, Carter from FRA, guys like this. And this happens several times each year. These are all guys that are getting screwed!

Thank's Coach, Bottom line; the regions aren't fair. Coach, I don't know if a wrestler in new region 6 chances are any better with the 13 teams than they are in old region 5 with 24 teams, even if this region keeps 4 placers.
