Thats a very good question....Maryville has an EXTREMELY capable junior kicker, but I think they felt like it would take more than field goals to win the game, I guess not!?

Maryville was not really close enought that a field goal would be the smart play. Melrose did not have the best kicking game, I wonder how many field goals they made all year.

Maryville was on the 20 a couple of times and thats an easy field goal for Maryville. I can't really remember our kicker missing one this season. He can kick it from probably about 40 yards out, maybe further, I don't really know his distance, but he's a good one!

Amazing! If you had told me Maryville would score 7 points and win, I never would have believed it. Honestly, they had many chances, but props to Melrose for keeping them out of the endzone.

 

Good game Melrose, your defense was the best we've seen in the last 8 years (since Pearl-Cohn '97). You had great speed. You absolutely deserved to play for the championship, and one point more, and you might have taken it in OT.

 

Now Two I told you so's - I said Melrose's kicking game would hurt if it was close, and I said the Maryville Defense was underrated.

 

And on a final note, I guess that "West Tennessee Will Dominate" thread was just a big joke. I get it now. It's really funny.

Playa...I gotta give them props, they were really hittin like a ton of bricks. Because the safetys were hitting so hard, I think that Clement went soft and was a little afraid to stretch out to make the catch. I think this made our passing game suffer, not so much their coverage.

I was concerned about the kicking game also. That's the third year in a row that it has made a difference. Also thanks for the compliments. Maryville is as good as advertised and it looks like the two best teams made it to the final.

The Melrose Defense was as advertised. I was very impressed with the speed and toughness those guys showed. You all were a very worthy opponent, and we were fortunate to get the win. However, a win is a win. Great job Maryville, you made your whole community proud with a performance that we all expect from you guys each week. You never quit. The D played amazing, and I hope now they get some recognition. Who would have thought it would be . . .
