At first I was all for it considering the record the last two years...But,I heard something the other day that,if true, has changed my mind....The numbers that UC has used for re-classification purposes, which are correct and nothing wrong with them, has put them in 1A classification....But,those numbers will be the only time the next 5 years that UC would be considered a 1A team....With them playing Gleason and Greenfield, which are 2 of the smallest 1A schools in the state, doesn't seem all that fair....Can UC petition the TSSAA to move back up to 2A ball in 2 years????...If they do go on to the state championship and possibly win, will there be an asterisk by their name in the record book????Seems like maybe just the luck of the draw that they get to move down to 1A for 5 years....But they will have to move back when they do re-classification again...I hope that doesn't wreck their program like it has done to Peabody after they moved down then back up...Anybody know for sure about the numbers and thoughts about the move down????..If those numbers are correct is it fair to play in 1A ball????

The enrollment is good for the next four years. Although, if a school has an enrollment change of 20% or more - either way - then they can be reclassified in two years. That would mean the UC would have to grow by 79 students or more over the next two years.

The students - that you believe will increase their enrollment above other 2A football schools - that will actually attend UCHS is another story. Out of say 100 students coming up from UCMS, the high school will get about 90 to 95% of those. So, unless there is a class with 150 in it, I doubt UC will be reclassified.

Although, it is very possible that they will move back up after the current classification runs its course in 2009. But so many different events that could affect that will factor in before then.

Being close to the Trenton program do you think that moving down then moving up hurt Peabody's football program????

I don't think moving up or down has made any difference. After Peabody moved up from 1A in the early 90's, they had a dominant team in 96. The finished 2nd in 7AA that season. It's all about having the players to compete. I know many people feel that moving up/down/up has an effect on a teams ability to play...but Peabody's struggles this season cannot be traced to that. They had a good line and a good back, but were one dimensional - the ran 98% of the time. Plus, they were getting used to a new coach with a new offensive scheme.

Peabody, like UC, had a tough season...but from what I understand, the freshman team for Peabody was extremely tough and will help them make some noise in the next few years.

Despite the fact that UC has won just five football games in the last two years and the boys' basketball team is currently 15-1, I think the move is good for basketball and bad for for football. The way UC's enrollment is right now, the football program is teetering on becoming one of those schools that goes up and down every four years. ... I was told by someone very close to the football program that UC's enrollment the last four years made it a 1A school while it played in 2A. The enrollment the next four years, beginning with the 2005-06 school year, will be 2A in size but UC will play in 1A. .... I think UC should do eveything it can to move back up to 2A in two years and never even consider 1A again unless its enrollment should somehow fall below 325. UC's football program is 2A (some might even say its facilities surpass many 3A programs), and it should stay 2A. .... Now, hoops is different. UC has fallen to single-A size and will likely stay that way as long as TSSAA has three classes for hoops. Now, if the TSSAA would got four classes across the board, like I think it should ..... ah, but that's another topic for another time.

    • They've had some great talent over the years. They usually don't whip no one but can be tough to stop on offence.
    • Could be a lot of reason from what I’ve seen so far.  The lights wouldn’t turn on at Smyrna last night and had to move games to Blackman could be a reason or maybe he is talking about how on some of the games on NFHS network the camera placement was absolutely asinine. ( had a camera set up right in front of a net and couldn’t see crap)
    • If Gordonsville can manage getting through these next 2 games without using him it will be ideal. ER was the last team to not have to pitch their #1 till the state championship i believe. Worked out well for them but they also had one of the best 1A staffs of all time that year. Only allowed one run the whole tournament and it was in the 7th inning.
    • And he’s not even their #1. Lights out performance. Gordonsville is in the drivers seat with their #1 arm available throughout the tournament.
    • Close, after watching today I will take Alcoa and Meigs in the winers bracket games.
