James Vance is a good pick. He was the Buffalo Bills of Tennessee wrestling in the early to mid 90's.

What about Mark (I think) Johnson from Chattanooga Cental in the early 90's. His older brother was OW at the state tournament. His twin was a three time state champion. He placed 2nd his Soph and Jr year then lost in the quarterfinals of the state his Sr year. I am not sure what he placed that year.

I saw two outstanding wrestlers last night, Chad and Eric Burnette.  I'm pretty sure neither of them won a state tournament.  I saw them at the induction of their dad father(Harry) into the Blount County Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Clint

Agreed...these guys were brought up several years ago on a similar thread. Congrats to Harry.

Ryan Resha was state champ in 1998.

The toughest guy that I coached that fits this category has to be Ben Smith. What a tough son of a gun. Lost heartbreakers both his junior and senior years. Came back tough to finish 3rd both times.

The second guy that comes to mind is Josh Keller. Everyone remembers Matt and his 4 titles, but let me tell you, Josh was an unreal talent.

State Champs or not, these two were as tough as nails.
