Here are the current district 10AA standings following last night's games:

1.) Waverly (4-0)- the Tigers have set themselves up nicely to earn a first round bye in the district tourney which also means an automatic bid to the regional tourney. Games at Harpeth & at Sycamore this upcoming week will test how good this team really is.

2.) CreekWood (4-2)- the Red Hawks are off to a fast start in district play with a season sweep over both Harpeth & Stewart County. They do not have a district 10AA game next week.

3.) Sycamore (3-2)- the War Eagles have been showing signs of a team that can win a third straight district championship and make a fourth straight run to the sectionals and beyond. A showdown next Friday with Waverly could get Sycamore back into the race for the district regular season championship.

4.) Harpeth (2-2)- the Indians have beaten both of their in-county rivals thus far this season but a season sweep at the hands of CreekWood really stings. It especially hurts when the star player only plays one half of basketball in the two games combined because of his attitude problem. A clash with visiting Waverly on Tuesday night could serve as a turning point for these struggling Indians.

5.) Cheatham (2-2)- the Cubs lost their seventh straight in a heartbreaker with Waverly last night. Noel Smith is having a promising season but the lack of an inside presence is really hampering the Cubs at this point in time. The Cubs should get back on track Tuesday night when Stewart County comes to town.

6.) Montgomery Central (0-3)- the Indians are suffering in the post Burney era. They have lost badly in all three of their district games (Cheatham, Waverly, and Sycamore). A home game with struggling Cheatham next Friday could serve as a confidence builder for this young team that seems to be in a battle with Stewart County as the cellar-dwellars of the district in '05.

7.) Stewart County (0-4)- the Rebels suffered a season sweep in Charlotte last night against CreekWood. They have the luxury of hosting the district tourney this February, but as always they'll likely make an early exit. A trip to Cheatham next Tuesday night will likely drop Stewart Co. to 0-5 in district play this season.

Waverly gets a big win at Cheatham County. Cheatham jumped out early and was up 26-13, but Waverly managed to cut it to 4 at half. Second half Waverly went up 8 in the fourth only to see Cheatham get back even. The final 6 seconds the officials decided they wanted to decide the game and it was bad both ways. Waverly was up 1 with the ball with a little over a minute to go and Cheatham basically letting Waverly hold it. Ralston for some reason shoots a jump shot with about 25 seconds to go and misses. Cheatham rebounds and looks to score towards the end, but Smith is called for a travel ? with 6 seconds to go. Waverly gets ball under Cheatham basket up 1. Brink grabs a Waverly player's jersey and pulls him to the floor with the Waverly player getting called for an offensive foul. Brink makes the front end of the one and one to tie the game. He misses the second, but Cheatham rebounds. Luckily, instead of going back up for the shot Cheatham calls timeout with 3 seconds. On the inbounds, Cheatham is called for an illegal screen and Waverly's Leonard knocks down both free throws to put Waverly up 2. Smith then misses a 3 pointer at the buzzer. 3 pretty bad calls in the final 6 seconds that affected both teams.

Cheatham played hard, but are not nearly as good as they were last year. Waverly was fortunate to get out of there with a win as they didn't play their best game by any means. DJ Reid (16pts) and Ryan Hollis (15pts) came up big for the Tigers as the other Tigers had off nights. It's a good sign for Waverly when they can go on the road, play poorly and still get a district win, a big win indeed.

The term "the refs never determine a game" does not apply to this game. They absolutely took the game from the player of both teams. 2 horrible calls down the stretch of the game cost both teams. They refs were horrible. I mean horrible. The whole game they were horrible. I would never, ever take a victory away from a team, and Waverly played well enough the win, but the refs screwed both teams. Especially Cheatham. To call a call on the baseline totally away from the ball on an inbounds play is completely the wrong thing to do. They blew that game last night. Big time. It was a really good game until then. You just don't take the game away like that period. It was a travesty. Anyway, good win by Waverly. The Cubs seemed to have burst out of their bubble last night. They played very well and should have won the game. Good luck to all.

Hmmm... Can you say "make up call"??? I too was saddened to see a good game turn twice in the final seconds by calls from the officials. The call against the CC player (who did use his elbow to push off/block) was to offset the previous call when Leonard was charged with an offensive foul on the inbounds play. Trying to draw the fake charge was a good plan coming out of the time out and even if a foul had been called on CC, Waverly would be shooting a 1 and 1 without time coming off the clock. Excellent coaching on CC's part. The referee who was the furthest from the play, standing at midcourt, was fooled and made the call. Im my opinion, that prompted the make up call which was indeed a picky call.

I don't think anyone was happy to see the outcome decided the way it was.

Yes, but this was also the same referee that called a travel on Smith after he completely dropped the ball and never touched the ball again. He was physically pulled to the floor and dropped the ball. The ball bounced twice on the ground, no one touched it, and then called a walk. I agree with you though Mkhhawk. Those were two horrible calls at the end of the game that take away from the kids playing basketball. They totally took the game away from who was playing it, and that is my concern.

I believe that you are a little confused on how the block call went down, my friend. If you could go back and see it again, with unbiased eyes like my own, you would have seen that the call was on the baseline coming to the player throwing the ball inbounds. The play seemed to be designed to go to that very player. The referee made the correct call from approximately three feet away being that the CC player stepped out of bounds to get to the W player. Also, again using unbiased eyes, the travelling call on Smith was indeed horrible. The W players had hands in the air, did not attempt to block his shot, and he either panicked or lost the ball and it just bounced. Nobody pulled him down. If anything, it cost W precious seconds on the clock and allowed CC to reset their defense. The charge was indeed a good acting job by the CC player. Bad mechanics by the referee who called it from 75 feet away, the other two were calling nothing. Gutsy move by the CC player. Great game to watch, well worth the money paid. Love to see the rematch at Waverly(with an unbiased opinion, of course). Maybe both teams will bring their "A" games and we will see who is truly the better team. Good luck to both squads. thumb

Who's everybody got left catfish.  I know Harpeth has a home and away with Stewart Co, Montgomery Central and Waverly, a home game against Sycamore and a road game with Cheatham County.  If they come out of those games 5-3, they'd end up 7-5 in the district.  It's gonna be a tight race.  Somebody needs to hang one on Waverly!

the two calls at the end of the waverly cheatham co were both terrible calls for both teams the one against waverly was terrible it was a flop by cheatham kid and the call against cheatham afterwards was probally even more of a terrible call it is bad that the referees had to let the game come down to that. It was a great game to watch and really dramatic down the stretch with ralston carrying waverly. Waverly was defintely the better team and deserved the win
