walkenvol
Chattanooga Could Sweep State Wrestling Duals posted February 3, 2005 Six area schools will try to sweep the TSSAA state wrestling duals which begin on Friday in Clarksville. Chattanooga sends several of the top teams in the state, including three Division II teams with Baylor, McCallie and Notre Dame. Baylor brings a 17-1 dual meet record into the meet and a top state ranking for a Division II team. The Red Raiders will face off with Father Ryan in their first match at 5:30 CST Friday. McCallie, defending dual meet champions, will wrestle Brentwood Academy also at 5:30, and Notre Dame will match up with Christian Brothers. Winners of the first matches will wrestle each other at 7:30 on Friday. The championship for Division II will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Since 1998, when TSSAA created two separate divisions, the state dual championship has gone to Baylor, McCallie or Father Ryan. Class AAA representatives will be perennial powers Bradley Central and Soddy-Daisy. Bradley Central, the top ranked team in the state, has won four out of the last six state duals. The Bears will begin their quest for another state title against Collierville on Friday at 3:30. Soddy-Daisy, who last won a dual championship in 2002, will take on Science Hill also at 3:30. Winners will meet at 7:30 Friday night with the championship set for 5 p.m. on Saturday. New to the duals this year is the addition of A/AA. Before the split in 1989, the state duals were separated into large and small divisions. Smaller schools have had a difficult time competing with schools that have two to three times their enrollment so the TSSAA added the A/AA classification. Hixson earned its first ever trip to the state duals with a win over East Ridge this week. Hixson, with an enrollment around 1,000, will match up with Springfield in their first match. Springfield also has an enrollment that is just under 1,000. Two other teams, Greenback with an enrollment of 255 and FRA with around 283, will face off in the other A/AA match. A/AA will not begin until Saturday with the first match set for 1 p.m. and the championship at 3 p.m. All matches will take place at Clarksville High School. I am certain since my team was one of the four teams at Hunter's Lane that year, Soddy beat Tennessee High, Franklin beat Kirby (my team), Soddy beat Franklin. The split happened in 1998. rigger101
See what you learn on here! I didn't even know they had once had a small and large division in the past. I still say go back to one division for individual Championship. Don't count team scores. Than for duals keep it DI, DII and break it into small and large. The split was what I caught, but wrestle90 found another one also.
