"With the way Manson was wrestling that weekend, I would have forfeited to him too, but seriously forfeits don't make since to me or the Baylor program. One of the beauties of wrestling is that no matter what the score, there is always a chance for a pin or at least saving a six point pickup. But don't tell McCallie this because they seem to do it a lot so, the Baylor fans say thank you."

good point..i'm a mccallie fan and i've never understood that...there is an UPSET in EVERY sport at one point or another...why not at least try for one..the kid could not get pinned he could have a tech or a major and save the team a point or 2..that could lead to a win so why forfit? the world may never know

I have a recollection, and at my advanced age that might be fuzzy, that Gordon Connell's teams have actually won several matches and maybe one or two state titles. It might be that he knows what he is doing regarding forfeits. Of course Gordon couldn't hold a candle to any number of posters to this site who are experts in the nuances of coaching and generously share their expertise. I only hope that Connell regularly checks Coacht and takes copious notes in order to improve his coaching performance. It would be a crying shame for this vast resevoir of advice not to be exploited by McCallie's coaching staff.

No one said GC is not a successful coach. People are just wondering why he sometimes chooses to forfeit a match and give up six points when he has a wrestler on his bench who's dressed out and ready, willing and able to wrestle the match.

Nonsense. the board is exactly the correct place to discuss the virtues of that kind of strategy or the lack of understanding that kind of strategy. I doubt the McCallie coach cares one way or another about the banter regarding this particular subject. It does not seem to me anyone was trying to give advice to him, only discussion on his strategy. just my opinion.

I started the refrence to forfeiting the Manson match, and if you go back and read my post, you will note I did not want to turn it into an argument. I was wondering the pros and cons (pros mainly) for forfeiting the match. I was not suggesting Connell made a mistake--his record speaks for itself. Just wondering what theories were out there for doing so.

Your right Tex! I drove all the way to Clarksvilleto see Mr. Manson , paid for the show and there was a "No Show at the McCallie 125"

They had three 125lbs listed in the program.

I was disappointed and you could tell the the Baylor kid was also. I think everyone felt cheated. I saw Gordon say something to Manson when he shook his hands. I wonder what he said? <_<

Then by all means, you should demand 1/14th of your money back! The TSSAA certainly would not want someone to go away feeling cheated.

I have always felt that getting beat was a learning experience. I would be upset if my child was not given that experience.

    • When she starts farting around with the football team the powers in Maryville will run her out of town on a rail and everyone connected with letting her in the door. You saw what happened when Alcoa's radio announcer thought he was coming to Maryville, the people rose up and stopped it.
    • 20 but had 5-6 not dressed every game. It went down towards the end due to injuries and obviously only 15 got to dress for the state tournament. Then, they only lost 2 from this year and gain 8 from the middle school for next year
    • As somebody mentioned before, this is going to result in a massive lawsuit, can you imagine professional "educators" actually having the conversation about getting "the bad kids" out of the high school?  And the head coach asking directly to change grades, gets turned down, comes back again and gets it approved?  This is unbelievable.  In addition to the lawsuit, the state Department of Education is going to come down extremely hard on this.  WYSH is on the war path.  There could be dozens more lose their jobs by the time this is over.  And yeah the real shame is the kids being affected that literally had nothing to do with this and actually worked hard to earn their grades.
    • I've heard Powell from someone who talked to him. I saw the kid two days ago and I should of pulled over and talked with him and wished him well where ever he goes. It will be a ale of a loss for us because I don't believe we have anyone in the stable good as him from what I seen in the spring.
    • I would have to think that the firing of the 2 teachers is just the beginning of future moves.  If not, it is woefully short.  If the AC school board thinks that the damage is just limited to Clinton, they are sadly mistaken.  Any outsider would view the whole school system as suspect, and rightly so.
