why do people keep talking about how good cookevilles sophmores are.  thats not a good reason to have them as favorites.  if they had a strong junior or senior class i could understand, i'd give their sophmores another year

Well their sophmore class is loaded with talent. Many of those sophs contributed in varsity games as freshman.

How I think districts will shape out:

1. Cookeville

2. Siegel

3. Blackman

4. Riverdale

5. Warren County

6. Lebanon

7. Oakland

8. White County

Has Oakland just lost everybody? I know they weren't very good last year, and everyone seems to be picking them towards the bottom again this year. Just three or four years ago, when I was an underclassman, they were the team to beat year in and out. Is it due to the loss of Coach Hardin or are a lot of the guys going to Siegel now? I was just wondering. Also, I hope my ol' pioneers can compete this year. They will be young and I think that 5 spot is legit for now. By the way, if your predictions stand up, or if this C'ville soph. class is good, and they don't get it this year, but let's say the next two, then how about my old coach Hardee? Talk about running it in the district.

anyone that honestly thinks cookeville is anything great is kidding themselves. last year they were terrible, blackman lost alot but will still own everyone in the district. cookeville has always been one of the most overrated teams in the state, whenever they used to make it to state they would just get drilled in the first round.

What in the world are you talking about? Several years ago Cookeville came in #3 in the state and beat blackman 5-0 in the district. Cookeville came in third in the regular season last year in the district.  As far as blackman owning everyone last year, they beat cookeville by one goal both times.  In both games there were penalty kicks, in the game it was very questionable..Blackman also lost several of their best players from last year so that is why everyone thinks Cookeville should do well.  YOu don't have to knoock Cookeville..  THis is just speculation no real games have been played. Maybe think before you speak next time.

Several years ago is not now though. Oh and about Blackman losing lots, shouldnt matter much. Coach Vice is a great coach and will do whatever it takes to win with what hes got.

They have a team that is willing to work for their goals in sight. A team does not have to have great players to be a great team. It takes everyone on the field working as one to be a great team.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
    • No movement on Chester? South Gibson? Gibson County?
    • Winfree's senior year was the season she needed to secure more college interest. That opportunity was taken away from her. A lot of false assumptions can be made about what happened and what the options are. Unfortunately, the former coach and administration did not allow Winfree to have due process. A lawsuit was filed for a reason, and it will run its course by people who conduct discovery and take depositions. Unless the parties settle out of court, a lot of the pertinent issues will come to the public surface. I wrote about many of the issues here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/11/17/grounds-for-investigation-and-suspension/ I interviewed Winfree after she was dismissed from the team and wrote about it here: https://bdnewsletter.news/2023/12/01/a-new-interview-with-sable-winfree/ Winfree had been on teams in Warren County since the fourth grade and never been dismissed from a team. The real questions are why was Winfree dismissed from the team, and why the administration backed a coach whom they did not rehire.
