I'm betting nobody has complete enough stats....but my money would be on either Brewster, McTorry (1996), or Darren McKnight in 01.

 

however, you of all people should know, Ronnie, that only one Number matters when it comes to Takedowns......

don't think that we're slighting the older eras--I think the current kids would have bigger numbers based on sheer number of matches.

You are right, Matt Keller did (and still does) have a lot of take downs but, he would keep them down and inflict a lot of pain before he let them up to do it again. So he may have had a few less than others.

Matt is one of a kind! Love to watch him.

i remember hearing of a wrestler back in the early 90's from some nashville div. 1 school that supposedly set the national record for takedowns in a season. I heard he did it by wrestling alot of matches against weak opponents, and lost to sharrock cobb from clarksville in the region tourney. i know it sounds a little far fetched, so i dont know if its true or not.
