who will be the new defensive coordinator? other coaching changes?

coach Salyers who was on the staff.I don't know him that well and have only really talked to him once last year in the weight room .However, a friend of mine who has coached against him and knows him well from VA.,says he is a fine coach and a good man.The only other coaching move that I know of is Zack Fleming. Zack was a great player a few years back and went on to play for CN.

The type of offense you run can have a direct impact on your defense. Some of you have referenced how good Watson's defenses were (and there was some very good ones) but seem to forget that the offense was always a very run oriented/ball controlled offense. Power I formations and the triple option was the norm. This limited the series that the defense saw. Field position was always coached in practice and made a priority throughout the game. It is tough on the defense when you go 3 and out or quick scores all the time. Great teams control the game by winning the time of possession and limiting the amount of time their defense is on the field. Synergy on a coaching staff is important, it has been lacking over the past few years.

My reference to coach Watson was not about how great of a defense that he had, but to what kind man he and many of the staff are.Yes, so many things have to happen for a defense to be great.Having a set of linebackers like we had in 2006 , or some great pressure from the front. Those two things can make or break a defensive backfield.Coach Watson had to gamble with the blitz many times and sometimes like on a game we had at WB, I believe it was a few years back.We got burnt on a straight dive for a big play.Coach was saying to me how it was his fault after the game and I said," coach," it was a good call, they just got lucky on their play call at the right time.

Agree. Watson was top notch great coach and great man. Just get tired of all the finger pointing at the D-Coordinator. Lots a great men on the current staff. But also a lot of coaches stuck in their old ways, have personal agendas and let their egos get in the way. Watson had no agenda but winning and developing/teaching young men. He would ask players and other coaches in practice and game situations what they thought of certain situations. Championships won't come to Kingsport until the coaching staff can get it together. There are a lot of smart young coaches out there that are ready to step up. Great coaches surround their self with a staff that they trust and will LISTEN to when needed. Too much talent the last 15 years not to have a title.

Gat, I hear what your saying and you are spot on about some things.I've talked to enough of the coaches over the past decade, to know a few are strictly team players nomatter and a few would say we are doing some things azz backwards if they didn't care about their job.We have a good staff and they do their jobs if they believe 100% in what's going on or not because they want to win and care about the kids.

Just read where they are finally going to put malik foreman at running back this spring !! Butch said he is one of fastest on team was great in high school, so why not ?! My uncle said the team as a whole said malik should be running the ball because of what he does in practice playing around before real practice!! He has put on alot of muscle and being a junior now , I think he will excel at rb!!

Batman - First of all, I read your comment about not being a football dad much longer.   That really hit hard, I have a few more years of being a FBD but at some point it is going to end.... yikes.     I don't know that mothers can possibly make the same football connection to sons that dads can, but if I'm wrong I'm sure all the FBM's on the board will blast me.

Ok, moving on to how is DB going to be in 2015..  It's really hard to predict future wins/losses because there are so many variables, but I did notice the lack of Volunteers, Centrals, etc. on the schedule.    Unlike those past years where half the games are against local cupcakes, DB has a real potential to lose in every game.    No, I'm not predicting 0-10, its just that there is huge difference with the schedule.   In other words, DB can beat the locals just on pure athleticism and numbers without having to try very hard.     In this new conference you absolutely cannot afford to just show up and expect to win.    Reference in round 1 last year how a 5-5 BC team pushed Science Hill to the limit, and a mediocre MoEast team gave DB everything they wanted.  DB expects to win big locally and the locals expect to lose big, that's just the way it is.   Speaking of the Hill, this goes for them as well, no more week in and week out 65-3 games against locals.       So I would say DB's and SH's challenge is that they are going to have to be prepared EVERY week way more than they have in the past few years, go in with a *yawn* ho-hum attitude and you get your lunch handed to you.

Wishing all the guys a good injury-free 2015

I thought DB had 2 excellent RBs returning next year. Not sure why you'd put another athlete there unless you're going with a wing t based offense.

A lot of fact in what your wrote. The stronger schedule could help both teams come playoff time, but you won't see a lot of 10-0 seasons unless DB or SH is really loaded .I say my time as a football dad is not long but I could be surprised.Lot of variables will go into that and the future. There is nothing like watching your kids and their friends out there.
