  1. Sheriff... as far as the charge at the end of regulation, you obviously werent at the same game I was at. Westwood tried to dribble out the clock and take the last shot, as soon as he took off Hollingsworth (#1) set up because he is knew that he was coming all the way to the rim.... This is what they had done all night. He was set ... which the rule book states a legal guarding position, it does not even say set. The Westwood player was going to the basket no matter what. I called charge when he left from half court. Now, had this same play happened in college or pro, it probably would have not been a charge because of the restriced area, but we do not have that in high school. Im with westnman on this one.... TCA had already taken a couple of charges... you see him waiting... pull up pull up. That was one the best high school games I have seen. Both teams played hard and Westwood has a great team. TCA as tradertwo said truly left it on the floor. It was a great atmosphere and good teams playing making the whole night fun including the game before in Middleton and BTW (and both of these teams are good.) Those of you hating against West TN basketball or even Memphis basketball really need to pay attention more. Right now, its really hard to argue against boys west tn basketball... A , AA, and AAA trophies came back west of the river last year(oh yeah, the silver too). However, I dont agree that Memphis can claim all these teams bc Lake County, Liberty, and Bolivar are plenty ways away from Memphis. But in regards to Memphis, you cant argue that they have some of the best talent in the state. Now, I know it takes teams to win, but Memphis is full of talent at most of the school. Those of you saying BTW and Westwood are not any good bc they play in a weak district are crazy... The reason some of the records of those teams are like they are is bc they play all Memphis schools. I would be willing to bet that Memphis Northside, City University, and teams of the like could compete or win most districts in the state. I do agree that they are not usually well coached which lies the trouble when the face teams that have talent and discipline.
  2. First off, Congratulations to Signal Mountain. Ya'll were the best team in 2A this year. Good luck in 4A next year... I noticed Greeneville had about 80 players dressed out compared to TCA's 30 (of which some are 8th graders that the coaches allow to dress out after the middle school season is over). You really had a good team... you have succes and it came quick enjoy that because it doesnt happen often. You beat some good teams to get that gold ball and deserve it. Your coaches made some great adjustments in the game... i.e. exploiting the size of TCA and running it right at them and then man pressing our receivers so they would have to so work so hard to run their routes which became another reason they became so tired. TCA doesnt have the luxury of sending other people in when one person is tired. Many times throughout the season the coaches had to take a timeout just to let people rest. People are saying that it shouldnt matter if people go both way, which might be true for one or two, not for 10 guys that go both way and have no way to get a break. Also, going both ways on the line is much different. As for #17, his name is Joseph Coley. I was sitting with his family when he got hit. Yes, it was a frightening thing and think about his parents as you see your boy motionless on the field. Thanks for the prayers, I know the family appreciates that. He had a mild concussion. They had to hide the boys helmet because he wanted to go back in so bad. Something that most of you did not see was after they hid his helmet from him, he picked up the water and made sure every player on the field had water anytime they could get it... now talk about a kid willing to do anything for his team!!! We lost on the scoreboard but its things like this that make them winners in my heart. As for Jabriel, I dont understand how you can have a great team and a great win and then get on here and bash a 17 year old kid. Listen the kid was playing with a bum ankle and a bum shoulder(which he has been waiting on the season to end to have surgery on). Both of these injuries would keep a lot of kids out. The kid plays every snap... do you think you would get tired?? As far his quickness and speed... take a look at the first Signal pass play... he tracked the guy down and then if you still dont believe watch TCAs second play from scrimmage where he ran it in for their first touchdown, he made a couple of moves to get in the endzone that normal players would have had about a 3-4 yard gain. As far as being burned, one of those for sure he was trying to chase down from the backside. As far as him not being the enforcer, hes a free safety, that is not his job, although he did have several tackles in the running game. I just dont understand why is there so much hate on a 17 year old kid... Oh I know why, he signed a major college scholarship and you didnt. The first thing any college would do for this kid (and I say any college because anybody that is somebody offered him a ride to school) is put weight on him. Please dont get on here and take away from this kid when you know nothing about him. TCA... congratulations on a great season. You have taken us where we have never been. You represented all the players that wore the jersey before you and your school well. Every team you played this year had more players and students than you did, but you did not let that stop you. Every team was "bigger, stronger, and faster", but you didnt let that stop you in the playoffs. I wish I could change the outcome for you and have you hold the gold ball because of your heart and determination. There is something special about you guys and this team. You have absolutely no reason to hang your heads, you made the TCA family proud. TCA coaches... you also did an outstanding job. You got more out of these guys than ever expected. They rallied around you!! Losing 2 of the first 3 games against your biggest rivals always make you question yourself, but you guys found a way to get those kids to play with more than they have. I dont care what anyone says I appreciate you guys!! Again, congratulations to both teams. Signal Mountain you had a great team, I think I would have had a lot of fun watching you if you werent playing us. TCA be proud, you made it farther than you should have and now have a lot to hang your hat on.
  3. Well this way, because it is said on here for us not to show up, you can just have a party when the game was supposed to be at 12 on saturday. It saves us a trip, nobody really likes TTU campus anyway. It just saves us all this way.
  4. To get to the state championship, you have to play and beat some quality opponents. Both teams have made it this far and have defeated some quality opponents. It looks like TCA played more schools that were bigger than them... but in that case almost every school they played had more kids than they did. Doubt Signal Mountain played anybody bigger than them. This very website does rank TCA's schedule as 14th and SM's as 43rd, so that should tell you something. No doubt both teams are good teams, you dont get here if you are not. But the way it sounds TCA should just stay at home avoid the embarassment and have TSSAA just mail them the Silver ball and be happy with that. In second thought, don't do that... you havent played a playoff game yet that you were supposed to win. Go out there and continue to impress and prove 'em wrong. Remember... they (Trenton * Humboldt * McKenzie * Signal Mountain ?) are bigger, faster, and stronger... there is no way you can win.
  5. Congrats TCA!!! If you listened to what they say on here you would have lost every playoff game. I'm glad that teams are bigger faster and stronger than you just proves how bad you want it. Continue to fight and play every play!! McKenzie you had a great season!! This was a GREAT game.
  6. I think TCAEE is just really upset that everyone has come on here all year and said that TCA couldnt win because of size or speed or whatever else. Albeit he spoke in frustration and said some things he shouldnt have said, I think he was just trying to defend the team. TCAEE try not to demean anybody else why still defending the boys. As for the game, TCA beat a REALLY GOOD Humboldt team. Hats off to you Humboldt on a great year. I know Kane gave you a lot of motivation. TCA came out prepared and played their best defense of the year. We now have to move on McKenzie, who has been the class of 2A the last few years in our area. They have gotten us the last two years. I think this will be a great game as both coaching staffs will have their teams fully prepared and ready to work that turkey off. As far as JW, I think he is very comparable to the size Jabari Greer was in high school. Im not sure that comparing him to Teague is really fair... Teague had four D1 signees on the team (2 to SEC schools). Yes, he accounted for a lot of the offense on Friday, but what running quarterback have you ever known that this is not true, especially when a running back is lost to injury?? You can say he accounted for a lot of the offense, but please try not to say it in such a way as to take away from the other players. I promise you he cant get passing yards without receivers or run anywhere without a line.
  7. sdawg, Do you have any more information on Celina? Do they only run zone or do they press? Anything?
  8. Middleton has done this for years as an advantage to their team. They practice in the heat and play in the heat. They keep the temperature in their gym very warm and it definitely provides a competitive advantage, but it is not because they are scared the other team will RUN them. Both Middleton boys and girls pressure people and get up and down the floor. Titanic, although this is an advantage, I dont think that it is a 30 point difference.
  9. Hey Reitz... thanks for the help on who stands where. Although, you may have provided some teams just a little motivation. I think TCA gets in over anybody else with similar 5-5 records just looking at the points. They have the 2nd toughest schedule according to CoachT and the teams that they lost to (USJ, Manassas, Adamsville, McKenzie, and Riverside) should all win their games this week, thus giving TCA more tie breaking points. It should be an interesting week of football. Also, Im not sure that I would want to face TCA in the playoffs as a wild card, they could be very dangerous as I also saw the new wrinkles.
  10. Do you know when the semifinals and finals would be played?
  11. Well maybe I misunderstood then. I thought when I watched it that it said that if the team in District 16 did not finish first, then they had to get in on a wildcard. TSSAA hear this... there is no way that Douglas should get in by just winning against a weak MAHS team. There will plenty of more deserving teams and a team should not be able to win one game and get in. Well, lets hope even more for TCA win as both of these teams probably get in if this happens.
  12. Reitz, I dont think that Westwood can get in unless they are a wildcard. If you watch the video on TSSAA's website, there are exceptions made because it is only a three team district. The only team from that district that is guaranteed anything is the winner. Now MAHS' rules are a little different being in 1A, but the 2A has to be the top 2A team. In this case, there is no way that Westwood will get a wildcard. I see Quadrant 4 shaping out like this. Well, I do have one question... do they seed all number 1s and then seed all the number 2s no matter the record? If this is not the case, then my seeds would change a little. 1. Adamsville 2. McKenzie (could possibly take top spot) 3. Humboldt 4. Douglas 5. TCA (taking TCA in this game) 6. Riverside I would hate to see TCA have two tough (12 points total)losses to two of the top 5 teams in the state in 2A, and then losses to a top ranked opponent in 4A and a top ranked opponent in DII and not make it. Get ready Lions and come prepared and take care of business.
  13. Does anyone know the seeding and what the pairings will be for the District 15A-AA tournament?
  14. First of all... we cant change anything from this game because it is over. Yes, the officials did miss some calls from both sides but that happens because they are human. There was once that I did see a player arguing with the referee and nothing done and times when hits were extended well past the whistle though. As far as the referee patting Washington on the back, maybe that is just what he does for good players as he was doing the same thing to Damron as he even shook his hand before the second half kick off. The TCA touchdown was a touchdown as I was standing on the goal line and the second effort got the ball over the line. But, saying you left 21 points on the field is a stretch. I would like to know at what point you are talking about except times that you got stopped. I will give you that Adamsville physically dominated the line of scrimmage the whole game and I will say that was the difference in the game, which is where the two blocked kicks came in also. Both teams played hard and as expected was a very close game. I feel like both teams moved the ball a lot better than their final scores showed. Adamsville made the plays that needed to be made to win the game. I looked at the playoff possibilites also and see them possibly meeting in week 2 and wouldnt that be fun to watch a game like this again. Hopefully it will go the other way next time though.
  15. Well I hope two things change from the last time these two teams met a couple of years ago on Thanksgiving weekend. 1. the result 2. the bitter cold (and this looks promising) Both of these teams were predicted to be tops in 2A for West Tennessee and this should be a really good game. McKenzie is on a roll and TCA comes off a very tough loss to good Adamsville team. If TCA takes away a couple of missed blocks and penalties, the outcome could have been different. This will definitely be a great game to come to on Friday night.
  16. What "game-changers" have you shut down? You may be overlooking what Jabriel can do. I do believe this will be a good game and one worth going to, but I wouldnt just over look Trinity and think you are going to post 40 and then hold them to 10 points. If you can hold them to 10, I really tip my hat to your defense as that is something that hasnt been done all year.
  17. Union City... you will def have to find some kind of passing game (defensive and offensive) to win. Your kids played hard all the way to the finish though, but it just seemed like in the second half that TCA's defense knew exactly where you were going. As far as the field, I think it held up rather nicely considering, that was the 8th game in 8 days all played in the rain... vs. Middleton last friday, JV game on Monday, 5th and 6th grade game, 2 middle school JV, Two middle school varisty games and last night. I heard on the radio about one game that you could not distinguish at one game who was who.
  18. Great game tonight!! Good win Lions!! It looked at the beginning that it was going to be an absolute shootout with neither defense able to stop the other offense(the only thing stopping each offense was themselve in the first quarter...either by penalty or turnover). Both teams capitalized turnovers into points, a couple of fumbles are usually going to happen when it has rained for the last two weeks straight. UC's can run the ball really well, but they really dont do many different things on offense. If they get behind it will be really hard as the passing game is non-existent. I think in 1A Union City will be able to power through people and make a run. TCA gave up on one really sustained drive for a touchdown as the other two came off turnovers. The TCA coaching staff made excellent adjustments as was already posted UC did not move the ball the last 3 quarters (well 2 quarters and 10 minutes). UC defensive backs played deep off the ball and when Washington was given any time he was able to find open receivers as they were just sitting under the zone time after time. TCA did what they had to do win the game. Congrats to both teams on a good game.
  19. The Adamsville-TCA game will definitely be a huge game in the district. I do not understand how Adamsville can think they are the strongest team that TCA has played. Please go look at Manassas and particulary OC Brown. Yes, Adamsville is much improved and their coaching staff has done a great job, but in no way do they compare to the strength and speed of Manassas. I would even venture to say that Manassas has 10 or 11 guys faster than Adamsville's fastest and 10 -11 guys stronger. The statement about recruiting, where does that even come from. You can't be referring to Jabriel, as he as been at Trinity since Kindergarten. Now, unless they have some spectactular resource to find kids in the Rec department flag football league when they are 4, this statement is trying to fuel a fire. I am looking forward to this game. I think it will be a very electric atmosphere on October 3rd.
  20. Congrats Lions on a big win. Game was tied 7-7 right before half and Josh Lenoir booms a 40 yard kickn to send the Lions into halftime with a lead 10-7. I had several key plays for TCA that propelled them to the win... 1. stopping JCS 4th and goal in the first quarter 2. Jabriel's long TD run in the third 3. stopping JCS on 4th and 3 inside the 30 in the 3rd or 4th 4. Lenoir's field goal. JCS fought hard until the very last horn. TCA somehow blocked its own kick and JCS picked it up and scored. TCA got the ball back and marched down the field while eating up the clock and then fumbled inside JCS' 10 yard line with 55 seconds. JCS then took the ball down the field and had one play at 5 seconds inside their ten... where Trinity Defense stood tall, covered receivers, and got to the quarterback (which they couldnt do the whole drive). Once again, a very exciting game.
  21. The runner can participate in the 5k as long as there is a designated line for the high school runner to start at least 100 yards back. The race no longer is a 5k and will therefore not count as a 5k race. Running in a 5k counts as a meet and the TSSAA has a set a limit as to how many races each team can run.
  22. Can someone give me a schedule for the clinic? What time do conferences begin and end? Thanks!!
  23. I do not know the score, but Im pretty confident in saying that TCA scored several more times than McNairy. TCA looks bigger, stronger, faster than this time last year. Also, you have to remember that half of their team only had been done with baseball one day before.
  24. As for their record, everyone knows they just like other teams play a very weak schedule with very little meat and taters in it. You cant say anything against their record. They play everybody that will play them. You are only allowed to play in so many tournaments and TCA goes to some of the toughest tournaments in the state and play MUCH bigger schools from Tennessee and other states. Yes, their district might not be as strong top to bottom, but don't you think that TCA alone makes everybody in that district a little bit tougher, and you can't choose who is in your district. Their schedule does have some solidity to it, it is not just wannabes, and it is not just west tn either. Sometimes we must take a step back and look at the whole picture before we say something that has no backing.
  25. I was at the game. There was not any running up the score. The coach had all bench players batting and mostly freshmen. No, they were not sent anywhere extra with passed balls. The score was 3 - 0 in the bottom of the third and TCA scored 11 runs there. There were two home runs in this and they are preparing to make a tournament run, you can't take them out in that inning. Also, does having runners go early make the other team feel any better? Then, in their head, they say we are so bad that they have to give us outs. Then, why would you ask a kid to do something you try so hard not to do, like leaving the base early? In this game, there were several several errors and unearned runs, and I do believe there were a couple of those girls walked in. The person running the scoreboard did not even put up a run on the board after 14. The whole situation was handled well. I do agree with spojo that it looks like you are trying to say that there was not any class involved. It is always hard to know what to do in that situation. You dont want to run anybody down(which I dont think they were) and still have your players play(which they have to do... it is the Regional tournament).
