    White County

it could be because he took White County from being an easy homecoming win to winning some games they weren't suppose to.......can you imagine how it must have bothered them to lose to Sparta. I expect they will be competitive in the new region.
  2. The winner of this one is not a lock for 4th place. There could be 3 or 4 teams at 5-5 in this region. If Tullahoma wins, they will still have to beat Hillsboro to get in. If columbia wins, they will still need to beat Spring Hill....S.H. did upset them last year. Lawrence County and White County still have a shot at 5-5 records. If it gets down to the 3rd or 4th tie breaker, it could get interesting.
  3. The program won 20 games total during the 90's. They were 5-5 last year and are still in the play-off picture this year. They are getting better each week and are one of the youngest teams in their region. Give it a rest bubbles and either support them or shut up!
  4. Every program loses players during the course of 4 years. This day and age it is impossible to keep 100% of the kids who start in the 9th grade...I'm sure even schools like Maryville and Oak Ridge experience the same thing. As for the numbers at White County being down, they started a freshman program for the first time when Coach Brown arrived and the freshmen no longer dress with the varsity on friday nights. The numbers may look down but if the 9th grade numbers are added you would probably see that the number of kids playing at White County has increased the last two years. I know they have a large and talented 8th grade coming up next year and are only losing 4 or 5 seniors. It looks and sounds like the program is finally turning the corner so, bubbles quit looking for negatives and support the program. As for players having fun, it sure sounded on the radio like they were having alot of fun last week in Shelbyville!
  5. The game may be for 3rd because 1st and 2nd was deceided last week at Hillwood!
  6. Three names come to mind in the mid-state area. Jimmy Maynord took a bad Upperman program and made the semi's in his second year. Dickie Brown at Sparta seems to have them going in the right direction in just 2 years, he also did a good job at Bledsoe in turning a bad program into a contender. Finally, Pat Dyer at Macon. What a great job in turning that program!

    5-4A in 2004

Is there some reason Lawrence County is omitted from your prediction?
  8. Coffee is a good example to look at. A better one is up 111 in Sparta. If I am not mistaken, Coach Brown was listed in the McMinnville paper as an applicant for the Warren job but they hired Tidwell instead. I bet Sparta is glad Warren Co. missed out on him !
  9. White County won 40-9. They have gone from winless and horrible to tying for 3rd in a 10 team region. I am sure they would love to have a shot at Columbia. Congratulations Warriors on a great turn around.
  10. 1-Hillsboro 2- Hillwood 3-Columbia 4- shelbyville if they win one of the last two
  11. The road to Murfreesboro goes thru Hillsboro. If There is anyone in west tenn. that has better size AND speed than Hillsboro they will have to prove it, otherwise it will be a 4A rematch in Dec.
  12. Hillsboro will score 24 in the 1st quarter. LC has beaten the two worst teams in the region in Spring Hill and Hickman Co. They have lost 2 region games already with the 3rd loss coming this friday. They are not contenders for play-offs this year.....maybe next.
  13. I've seen them both play this season...Hillwood by 14. LC does not have the horses to run in this race.
  14. The last time we saw postings like this, the Lewis kid from White county ran over, around and thru the "PURPLE AND GOLD STEEL CURTAIN DEFENSE" for nearly 200 yards and a region loss at home....I'm sure the coach would appreciate saving the chest thumping till AFTER you beat a good team, which Hillwood is!
  15. I think you are correct on most of your thoughts, but I would rethink white county as a fourth spot. Columbia would be a more likely candidate because of their schedule...no Hillsboro. They have a chance to finish maybe 4-3 or 5-2. White co's loss to hillwood likely cost them their best chance. I think they have Overton, Hillsboro, Shelbyville....all probable losses ...and Hickman left. Unless they can upset Shelbyville or Overton they are looking at 3-4. Don't count them out, stranger things have happened, but Columbia has the inside track.
  16. It has taken 12 months but it looks like this question has been answered...loud and clear!!!! great job warriors. By the way, how is his old school Bledsoe county doing ?
  17. It is my understanding that white county wanted to finish the game last night. The storm was nearly over and tullahoma's principal would not let them tear the new field up. Why should a coach be considered childish if he wants to finish. this is tullahomas fault as much as anyones!
  18. The TSSAA does not allow live broadcasts of playoff games.....for free. They charge a set amount if someone wants broadcast rights. They are not concerned with regular season games because they don't get a share of the gate. Alot of schools are following suit by charging a broadcast fee of their own for regular season games, around 100 to 150 per game to out of town stations. Seems fair to me if they are selling comercial time to make money.
  19. Kenny Ratledge of Sevier County has to be at or near the top of the list.
  20. I'm glad to hear the problem is coming from the basketball end only. I can understand the bball coach being nervous about losing athletes to football, I have heard nothing but positives about the way things are going in the football weightroom. I also heard Sparta looked good during spring practice. They are also starting a youth league this fall, something that has been needed for a long time. Things maybe starting to turn around! Good Luck guys.
  21. bbfbfan, you didn't say if the players were excused by the football coach during the month of june from workouts? Is the problem from both coaches or just basketball?
  22. You're right about it not being a true rivalry if it becomes one sided....thats the same they were saying in Bledsoe about the Indians when Bledsoe won 5 out of 6 from 94 thru 99. The lesson there is, don't go running off at the mouth too much because what goes around usually comes back around.
  23. 1st- White County 2nd- Sequatchie County 3rd- Soddy Daisy
  24. The biggest problem I see in rural areas is that AAU basketball has taken over. They play YEAR ROUND and put more pressure on kids to consentrate on one sport than football ever did. Football is the only sport any more that doesn't have competition outside of its regular season. Football is not the problem it once was, AAU basketball is ruining competitive H.S. baseball and softball in these areas.
