  1. This topic will be sent to the public/private forum very quickly but here goes. Use the merit system (Ohio does this) for football and you will have very few problems. It is fair to open zoned, private, magnet, and zoned schools. Most people are scared of change.
  2. Ole Dad, What type of statement are you trying to make? The MBA team did what they needed to do in order to get the win and Father Ryan was not able to respond. Coach Rutledge and his staff need to be given all the credit in the world for getting their team ready to play. From what I have been told, Ryan had the best athletes on the field for the first time in several years but they could not get over the hump and win the big game. Who is at fault now? It sounds like it was a well played game and the team that made the least number of mistakes won the game.
  3. Is that 53 day's until the first match or first practice. Has The Baylor School not been working out since last March with no break?
  4. This game not being a rivalry started with Bowers and has continued with Rutledge. Last seasons game was a close 14-7 victory for MBA and I look for the game today to be another close one. If Ryan plays smart and does not have more than one turnover they should win with the score being in the 17-7 or 14-7 range.
  5. How many Catholic players are on the MBA team? I know that in the past probably 1/3 of the MBA team went to Catholic grade schools. That is what makes this game fun, when you truly have friends playing against friends and often times family members going at one another.
  6. With it being homecoming for MBA I would have to guess that they will have a good crowd when the first whistle is blown. If Ryan goes up by two or three touchdowns before halftime I could see the MBA fans looking for the exit gates early. I wish that I could be in Nashville for the big game.
  7. Are you saying that you would vote for the D2AAA teams to be allowed to compete for the D1 AAAAA state championship? That's great we can now elimintate one classification. Why don't we also allow the rest of the D2 schools back into the fold? Let's not forget that they have an easy state title and water down division but they were forced into D2 even after they followed all of the rules and laws.
  8. The Nashville City Paper reported on September 26, 2006 that Tyler Acker (Donelson Christian Academy and Hit after Hit Baseball Academy) will sign with Middle Tennessee State University during the November signing period.
  9. The kids are still at the schools but the problems are many: 1. Today's dollar does not go as far as it did even five years ago and many parents can no longer afford to send their kids to private schools. These same parents often times move to other counties to get away from the Metro school system and in a system that is good but does not cost them other than paying their taxes. Let's not forget that tuition is paid for with after tax dollars. 2. Most of these private school offer many more sports than the small public schools that they compete against which dilutes the talent pool. How many small public schools offer the following sports: cross country, LAX, bowling, wrestling, track, swimming & diving, soccer, and ice hockey in addition to football, basketball and baseball. Most small rual public schools don't even offer Track & Field in the Spring.
  10. If that is true about Barnes then Memphis got a good one. Congratulations to Polk, Tyler and Marcus.
  11. I know that it is a slanted view but several people from Cordell's new school are saying that he left because he was the best and had not been give the opportunity to show his skills. He is sure putting up some big numbers this season.
  12. I heard from a friend in Nashville that all debt from the last building phase must be paid off before any more construction can take place. Is it true that the new campus improvements that you are speaking of will cost in the range of 35 million?
  13. Have they not had homecoming at West High School and Greer before?
  14. I have watched 5th & 6th grade football coaches hide in bushes and behind trees so that they could film the other teams practices. These fools are crazy! I would have never thought that the world would have come down to this low of a level if I had not seen it happen with my own eyes.
  15. It seems like the United Sates Air Force Academy did a good job of running the option against Tennessee while using "under sized" players.
  16. Why are they playing McCallie @ Vanderbilt and not Greer Stadium?
  17. To win championships in high school football you need a different type of QB than you need in the NFL. In the NFL you need a QB than does not get you beat and has the ability to get all of the players in the correct position. In high school you need a QB than can place the team on his back and lead them to a championship. Martin and Fisher were big, strong, fast and had great leadership qualities. Martin and Fisher were so fast and strong that they could win the game with their legs if needed. MBA had a good run but that run is probably over for a few years unless they go out and get some very talented players. Ricky Bowers took MBA to a different level than they had ever been before and I look for him to do the same thing with Ensworth.

  19. Having worn the stripes for several years I feel confident that what I am going to say is true: 1. It is more difficult that ever before to get people to officiate high school sports. 2. More often than not the officials never played at a level above high school and many times they never even played in high school. 3. If the official did "smirk" or smile at the coach when he made a call against the coach that is ver unprofessional and should never be done. 4. The older more mature officials that know the rules more than likely have put on a few pounds (most are 25+ pounds over weight) and have trouble keeping up with the speed of todays players. The young guys that you do recruit to officiate can run but most do not understand the rules or how to handle coaches. They have a short fuse and will allow it to become personal with the coach. 5. For the small pay that high school officials receive they cannot afford to attend advanced training classes that the college conferences offer during the Summer even if they are invited to attend the classes.
  20. If you added the private schools to the list of high schools you would have 25 high schools or more in Nashville now.
  21. I thought that Father Ryan played Centennial this week not MBA. Why all the talk about MBA?
  22. Give me a break!!!!!!! When was the last time a Tullahoma team went deep into the playoffs? Has Tullahoma ever made it to the semi-finals? Tullahoma should have a program like Maryville (very similar demographics) but for some reason they never seem to get things going on a regular basis.
  23. The Metro Nashville schools do well until they face a disciplined team that can throw the football. Once they face that disciplined team that can pass they will get their hats handed to them even though the Metro team will more than likely have the best athletes. Most of the Metro teams play terrible pass defense, do not have any type of sophiscated passing attack, and act as if they have never heard the phrase "special teams play wins big games."
  24. Has Coach Smith called or sent a special THANK YOU to Coach Rutledge for doing a great job in coaching Cordell and getting him ready to play QB.
  25. If you are going to replace the coach due to his win/loss record then you do it at the end of the season. I am not saying that you don't already know who is going to take the job but show some class and allow the coach to finish the season. Remember that the head coach is not the whole problem, those assistant coaches that you are speaking of are also big part of a football staff that has not won a game this season.
