  1. How many student/athletes have transfered from a public school to a private school and been rule eligible if the private school was not a boarding school? JMO, but the answer is probably zero (0) but maybe I am wrong.
  2. Gerry, Most people don't understand that we now live and compete in a global society. No longer are we born, attend high school, get a college education, and enter the work force within a 25 mile radius. Today's society moves from country to country and not from one town to another within the same county. It's difficult to make people understand that they need to get out and "take a walk around the block" to expose their children to a much larger world than even they grew up in. The real shock is that they will have to compete with people from Japan, India, China, Germany, etc... for those well paying jobs that they will need to provide for their family.
  3. Look for the TSSAA to add the rule where no more than 4 or 5 players from one high school may partitipate on a Summer League team together.
  4. Baylor is the best team in Tennessee and it probably isn't close.
  5. Sorry but I do not live in Tennessee (South Florida) anymore but I do try to follow the teams. I am in no way bashing anyone, but what I am doing is throwing out a challange for one of the best teams in Tennessee to walk outside of their comfort zone and be challanged. This would be good for not only the players but also the coaches and fans. What would it cost for Maryville to play a team from Middle Tennessee? I couldn't be more than $10,000.00 for a bus trip and meals and it would only be one trip every other season. If it did cost 10 grand you would still be +75 for the home and home series. You don't seem to understand numbers but I am not sure you really want to understand.
  6. Are you sure that the Riverdale vs McCallie game did not come about due to an Ohio team backing out of a game @ the last minute? If the game could attract 10,000 fans it should net around $85,000.00. I showed you the numbers in an earlier post and I have been in charge of big games before so I know a little about the subject but in no way would I be considered an expert like yourself. FYI, I do not have a problem with Maryville hoisting state championship trophies and I wish them well. Maryville is a good high school program in the Tennessee 4A classification but with the success they have had the last 10 years do you not feel that they could use a little challange during the regular season? Why would Maryville not try to copy programs like Byrnes & Hoover and play the best teams possible? Why would you say that Riverdale is down and will continue to be down? Were they not the top ranked team in 5A during the pre-season polls? We have been told on this message board several times that Rankin decided to leave Riverdale because he wanted his kids to grow up in a small town the same as he did. I know for a fact that he interviewed for a job around five years ago so with that being said I don't feel that he made a "knee jerk" decision to find a position at another school.
  7. How many home games would Maryville play where they could net $85,000.00. Remember that you can run but you can't hide from competition. Riverdale did this for years under Rankin and look what happened when they played a good team (McCallie) early in the season. Let's give credit to Riverdale and Coach A. for not running from a good in-state program.
  8. What you are saying is that Heritage and William Blount are easy wins and you can play all of your subs to get them some experience while resting your starters. Do you not feel that a game with BA, Riverdale or MBA would not draw 10,000 fans? 10,000 fans X $6.00 per ticket would be $60,000.00 in gate receipts. Concessions would probably add a gross of $40,000.00 with a net profit of $25,000.00 on concessions. That type of game would net Maryville close to $85,000.00 for one game, do you make that much money off of the Heritage or William Blount games when you are the host?
  9. MBA was a good football team before Ricky took charge and made them into a great program. How many TSSAA state championships had MBA won before Ricky took control? How many times had MBA been ranked in the national polls before Ricky? PS Ricky would still be at MBA today if it were not for the "G-MAN" not wanting Ricky to receive more credit than him. This was nothing more than a power play by both men and Ensworth was in the right place at the right time to take advantage of the situation.
  10. Why should they play out of state teams when they will not play the best teams in Tennessee? Let's see them play BA, McCallie, Riverdale or MBA.
  11. Why is this thread still being discussed? Ravenwood has lost the last two games against Brentwood Academy and that is all anyone needs to know or be concerned with. The simple fact of the matter is that both Ravenwood and Brentwood Academy have games to play this Friday evening and they need to be focused on those games.
  12. Carter was the leadoff man and had 5 RBI's so why did you pitch to him? Did Columbia not have a scouting report on the Georgia team? The game concluded with the score 8-0 but with Carter doing most if not all of the damage the game could have remained close and anything can happen in a close game when 12U kids start to feel the pressure.
  13. If this is true about the tuition being different the Father Ryan parents need to have a meeting with Bishop Choby to discuss things. It sounds like some people need to be made aware of the situation so that it can be fixed. Often times the people that can fix the problems are not aware of the problems.
  14. Why was Columbia foolish enough to pitch to him in a close game or with runners on base?
  15. Yes, you have the correct family. The father attended CBHS or MUS before making a trip to Knoxville and the University of Tennessee.
  16. D2 schools may move to D1 with the 1.8 multiplier if they don't have any athletes receiving financial aid. The D1 private schools can still give financial aid but those students will not be allowed to participate in TSSAA sponsored athletic events.
  17. Ole Dad, The kid can't remember so he may very well be on some hard medication!!!! Father Ryan probably does not have 10 kids run a legit (electronic NFL combine timed) 4.8 or less.

    GOLDEN TATE

He may very well be the best offensive high school football player to ever play in Tennessee. Without Golden Tate JPII would get killed by most teams on their schedule.
  19. How many fans were at the game? Who was the Ryan DB that someone said ran stride for stride with Tate and broke up the pass to end the game? I understand that the QB from Ryan had a great game and probably played his best game ever. Is it true that Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Alabama, & Tennessee were at the game, were any other schools scouting the talent?
  20. I am not sure what you are drinking but I need some of it. Don't take this the wrong way but everyone needs to understand that Ricky is already getting good athletes and he will get more. Jeff Rutledge is a great football coach but Ricky Bowers built that program @ MBA into a power and he will do it again at Ensworth. JMO, but Ricky has a chip on his shoulder and he will do everything possible to show the world that he is a great coach. Ricky will do everything in his power to not only beat MBA but run the score up on them if possible and if that means taking marginal academic students he will do just that. He has already stoped the former athletic pipe lines that he developed at MBA and those same type students are now going to Ensworth. While I like MBA and how they run their football program I feel that it will be many years before MBA reaches the success level they had just a few years ago. The national ranking day's are over because you don't have the same skilled athletes and remember that Ricky was responsible for bringing those athletes to MBA.
  21. It is my understanding that Byrnes (South Carolina) and for sure Georgetown Prep (Washington DC) does this. They try to make everyone feel welcome and want to be associated with their program. I have heard that Dickson County and Gallatin use to do something similar 25 years ago but I don't know about today. The football booster clubs feed everyone and takes care of the officials. The football coaches are not responsible for this, it is felt that coaches should coach and someone else will take care of getting things ready.
  22. If you are going to beat them it had better be within the next few years. IMO, they will be the premier program in Tennessee after five graduating classes. Ricky Bowers and the Ensworth staff knows how to win.
  23. Yes, MBA has scrimmaged Riverdale the last few years and lost most of the scrimmages. However, I do find it interesting that Riverdale as not scheduled MBA for a regular season game and MBA has been forced to travel twice this season up into Kentucky to find opponents to play them. Is MBA that bad of a football team that Tennessee teams feel they would get a better challange playing opponents other than MBA?
  24. Officials: 1. They have special parking away from the general public. An adult greets the officials @ their parking lot and shows them where to go. 2. Someone finds out who the officials for the Friday evening game will be on Monday and invites them to be at the stadium @ 5:30pm (game time 7:30pm) for a steak dinner that includes all officials, chain crew, stats people, film crew & PA man. This is done in a private room that has been decorated by some of the mothers. 3. Officials have a private locker room with a shower (soap, towels, shampoo, etc... are provided) and anything else they may need. During halftime and after the game sports drinks, water and fruit are available in the locker room for the officials. 4. Police escort to and from the field and to their automobiles after the game. (you can never be to safe in todays society) 5. Chain crew, PA announcer, stats people, etc... are not paid cash but they eat free before the game and are given two free tickets to the football banquet at the end of the season. ($50.00 value)
  25. What is "nerve-wracking" about playing at David Lipscomb? Playing at Lipscomb would be similar to playing at Vanderbilt where the game is a social event. Try playing in "Orange Mound" for a little fun. You guy's must have been living in a convent.
