  1. I think the main contenders will be Arlington, Millington, and Craigmont. I know that Bolton's QB from last year has been moved to HB. But that is the only thing I have heard out of them. Haven't really heard a whole lot about Cordova or Bartlett, but Bartlett did lose Willie Matthews and he will be very hard to replace. Raleigh-Egypt will again be the doormat of the district. Yes, Arlington lost alot of seniors. But they still have some good players and a good coaching staff. As far as I know, they fared pretty well against White Station in the spring. From what I have heard, Millington looked ok in scrimmages and have alot of athleticism. Maybe someone from Millington can correct me if I am wrong, but I have heard that their running game will be more of a speed attack than in the past with a little less power. Craigmont will again be very athletic. Quite a few young players, but they have some serious talent. One big loss due to graduation was at LB in Joe Jones. He was a big part of the defense the last few years. But in my opinion, they will have the most athletic defense Craigmont has seen in years. The offense should be pretty exciting as well. Should be an awesome year.
  2. It means he made a legitimate transfer to Arlington just as the kids that have transferred to Craigmont.
  3. kwc - I think it is crazy that Burton hasn't been offered by anyone. I hope that as a Memphis fan porter does offer him. He will be getting one heck of a player. I don't think he had such a good game against Maryville because their defense is bad.....I think he is just that good of a player that he gave them fits all night (although he did make a boneheaded mistake with his block in the back on the play that Maryville picked Hayes off and then fumbled it and another WS player picked it up and took it to the house). That and the fact that Hayes was harder to get a hold of than a greased pig. I could not believe some of the plays he was making out there. I am one of the people that was proven wrong in this game. I thought Maryville would be too much for WS....boy was I ever wrong. WS came to play and beat a very talented Maryville team.
  4. I think both cities had their pros and both had their cons. But I liked Cookeville.....they seemed to get more geared up for all of it than Murfreesboro did.
  5. I think after his performance last night, he will get alot of offers now. I'd LOVE to see Porter (Univ fo Memphis' new head coach) manage to keep him in Memphis.
  6. It was pretty good I thought, especially considering how it was FREEZING cold. There was not a single game where I looked at the crowd and thought that there were not many fans there. Good showing by all fans this weekend. There were some great games.
  7. This game surprised me. I thought Maryville would win this one easily. I went to the WhiteStation/Kirby game and wasnt terribly impressed with White Station in that game. The team I saw last night looked like a different team. Julian Burton was a man among boys last night and Maryville had no answer for him. Maryville did a good job moving the ball, they just struggled bringing Burton and Anthony Hayes down. One of Burton's long TD runs, I thought he was down and then he shoots out of the pack like he was shot out of a friggin cannon. White Station looked very much like a state championship team last night. Congratulations to Coach Rutherford on a fantastic game against a very strong opponent in Maryville. Way to represent West TN football White Station!
  8. True story. A guy I work with is from Indiana and his high school was playing for the title there. That is really cool. But I guess the Colts can afford to do something like that. Still very cool to know they are willing to open up their stadium for high school kids to play on such a big stage. I'd say for someone to ask Bud Adams if he'd do the same with LP Field, but he'd probably just flip em the bird.
  9. I'm not so sure you can just look at scores and use that as a basis for "competing." Often times, scores can show that a game was closer than the final score indicates, or the final score can be deceiving. A difference of 2 touchdowns isn't really competing. It seems to me that a "competitive" game should be within one score. Take the first half of the Green Bay/Detroit game on Thanksgiving Day. The scoreboard showed 13-7. When I got up and saw that score, I thought "Hey.....Detroit is actually competing." But it wasn't near that close. Green Bay was manhandling Detroit and the Lions got their score due to a turnover deep in Green Bay territory. Other than that, Detroit was stagnant the entire game.
  10. Please do and turn it on high! What an ignorant post! Sorry.....didn't realize my opinion of an offense was ignorance. You must be a Wing T school supporter. My favorite is when a Wing T school is successful and everyone loves it, but when they start losing everyone starts screaming for changes in the offense because it is too outdated. The Wing T is the easiest to stop as long as your defense is disciplined and each player takes care of his assignment. But I guess with very few defenses in high school being that disciplined, the Wing T is an easy way out. Now someone make an argument against me and call me ignorant again......
  11. So does Josh Pastner. Jackson has already signed a letter of intent to come play at Memphis. I agree with kwc.....it would be awesome if the new HC at Memphis could get Brunetti and Hayes to both come to Memphis. Too bad Curtis Steele and Duke Calhoun won't be around next year
  12. The Wing T makes me wanna stick my head in a microwave......
  13. I will be there pulling for White Station and hope they can bring the title to West TN, but I think Maryville is going to win this one easily. I'll say 38-17. But, GO SPARTANS!!!!!!
  14. Here we go again....Screw the coffee it would be a waste spendin money on the likes of your old has been butt.... I have a proposition...how bout meetin at KNOCK OUT on 8th ave....How are you at boxing big boy?? Put up or shut up...... 15. 6A Maryville - 31 Brentwood - 27 5A Tennessee - 34 Henry County - 28
  16. Thanks jvb. I agree 100% with your comments about the team and community. Every one of your players showed great class after the game. The community was very kind to us while we were there and congratulated us after the game for playing hard. If not for being a 4 hour drive, I'd be coming back there this Friday. Good luck to your team Friday
  17. Very good points jvb123. The best defense against Kiewon Malone is to keep him off the field as long as possible. If LCHS can control the ball and put together long TD scoring drives, they have a shot. The turnovers MUST be limited more though. I think LCHS lost either 2 or 3 fumbles to Craigmont, and Mitchell will take advantage of those fumbles if given the same amount. The Craigmont offense struggled more than Mitchell will. If they give Mitchell 2 or 3 fumbles and let Malone go to work, it may be a long game. As far as the speed of Mitchell against LCHS, I thought our speed at Craigmont would give them more problems than it did. LCHS has some speed of their own. I would love to see a game Friday where there are zero turnovers by either team and the game decided by 7 or less. Good luck Friday
  18. Mitchell 33 - Lawrence Co. 27 - Mitchell has much more firepower on offense than Craigmont did, and Mitchell gets a couple of quick scores to get up early and holds off a good LCHS team. Melrose 27 - Hardin Co. 13 - Melrose comes out and plays more physical than Hardin and takes this one. Whitehaven 31 - Wooddale 20 - Whitehaven will show Wooddale that they are one of the teams to beat every year for a reason. White Station 45 - Kirby 20 - "The Station" continues to roll through their opponents to set up a showdown with Whitehaven. Davidson Academy 31 - SBEC 21 USJ 31 - FACS 14 - USJ's QB has a great game and leads USJ to the next round. ECS 31 - FRA 17 St. George's 24 - Knoxville Webb 20 Father Ryan 34 - Briarcrest 28 - Briarcrest plays a solid game but comes up just short. MUS 45 - Baylor 10 - MUS gets up big and cruises. CBHS 17 - Brentwood Academy 13 - CBHS comes to play and hold off a last minute drive of Brentwood. Maybe I can get a few more right this week than last.
  19. I think LCHS recruited their T #72 from the New York Giants. I am of course kidding again, but we have a pretty good sized kid in Lafarius Hoskins (6'4" 330) and that guy made him look small. That is the hugest high school player I have seen in person. Anyone know where he is going to school next year?
  20. If I tried to say that Craigmont had the the same firepower on offense, I would need to get drug tested. Mitchell is much more explosive on the offensive side of the ball and has playmakers all over the field. I do think Craigmont's D is better than Mitchell, so I think LCHS will put up more than 12 against Mitchell. If this game wasn't in Lawrenceburg, I'd be going to this one.
  21. 9 definitely has to be on Malone all night. Maybe put your LB #6 underneath and have 9 over the top for deep balls. He got up there to make that pick at the end of the game. Good luck against that tough Mitchell squad.
  22. Melrose. They are just too athletic and powerful for Hardin.
  23. Mitchell is a very good team, but LCHS isn't too bad themselves. Witnessed that in person last night. They have a giant at tackle in #72. He is like 8'4" and 530 lbs. I am kidding of course, but he is a beast. Mitchell will play better on the offensive side than Craigmont did, but I'd almost guarantee LCHS won't see the same defensive performance they saw last night. Our defense has been outstanding all year long and I'd put em against any team in the area. I think if LCHS can get some pressure on the QB and contain the Mitchell speed as well as they contained ours last night, they have a good shot. Should be another awesome game in Lawrenceburg.
