  1. You weren't the one I was frustrated with. I think for the most part, Jamont is the winner...I wish I could see him play more, but living in Memphis and going to school at UT makes it rather difficult.
  2. what he said. However, Jamont is the best player in the state right now. Wright has the potential to go straight to the NBA out of high school based on his potential. The NBA draft is all about potential. Nowadays, the top 5 in their class all have the potential to go pro out of high school. And if you think Willie Kemp will go pro out of high school, you dont know what you're talking about because there hasnt been a single point guard to go to the NBA out of high school. Jamont is head and shoulders above everybody else right now, and yes I have seen all of the top players across the state. this argument is pointless. Everything you said, I repeated, and everything I said, you repeated. Jamont is the best, Brandon Wright has a chance to go pro. Sometimes I hate being a moderator cus I can't speak my mind!
  3. 1-Smith is older than Wright. 2-Smith has better players around him than Wright. 3-High school players that go straight to the NBA are athletic 6'9 or taller players. Wright is the second best player in his class, if he continues to do that, he will be able to go pro. That's what the players who go pro are, they are the best in their class, and are big enough to do it. Notice I said big enough...they don't have to be as good as a 23 year old college post player..as long as they have tremendous upside, which is what the NBA scouts look at, not what you do now, what you will do in 3-4 years...No one wants to miss the next KG, Kobe, Jermaine O' Neal, etc. Smith might have outplayed Wright, I'm sure a lot of players have. I bet Shaq would out play him, BUT those guys are also older..
  4. This is getting out of hand... Willie Kemp is not nearly as good as you all are saying he is. He's no where near good enough to go pro. In fact, I don't believe a high school kid who plays PG has gone pro yet. Kemp is a year older than everyone else, and he's still not the best sophomore in the state...or second. Brandon Wright is the best sophomore and one of the best players in country. He's ranked number 2. Thaddeous Young of Mitchell is a top 20 sophomore. Willie Kemp is not ranked as high nationally. Willie is very good, I've seen him play probably longer than most of you all when he played for Bellevue Baptist when he was 12 and 13. He's good but to say he will go pro, that's just crossing the line. I'm a fan of many players, but I have not seen one player this year who I thought could go pro, besides...maybe Wright and that is going on the assumpton that he gains about 20 pounds. I disagree with pumping a player up that much when most people across the state do not know who he is and might believe that he really is good enough to go pro. That is not what the kid needs to be hearing. And yes, I have seen Willie play this year.
  5. I have heard that coach Tippett will leave WSHS after this year. He has taught in the Memphis City School system for over 30 years (Remember he won a title at Trezevent in like 86). He will be eligible for a large pension. He will then go to a private school in the city of Memphis...D2 likely, perhaps ECS, and work there. He will get paid for 2 jobs while only working one. I hate to spread rumors, and I honestly hope it doesn't happen (cus he won't go to my old high school), but that is the hot rumor. Sound stupid and unlikely? Ask legendary Coach Netherland at Germantown if it is stupid and unlikely...he would know, since he did it...
  6. My facts are accurate, he got hurt in that game, and has been out since, until their last game...which they won. He hasn't played since then and he is going to play at an Ivey League school next year along with Taylor Schall and another one of their guards...Pigram I think? JP is their best player and he's only a junior. Someone asked how many teams were going to the state tournament from Memphis. Raleigh Egypt is going along with White Station so that is two. The Memphis schools did very well in D2...in fact, the final four in boys, three of them were from Memphis...BA, Byrne, BCS. And the BCS girls won the state tournament again.
  7. Shawne Williams would have been an mcdonald's all american from Hamilton. Signed with Memphis, rated the best SF in the country...too bad he's at a prep school right now. I haven't seen Brewer play, I'm sure he's a great player...but is he the ball handler, passer, and shooter that Jamont is?
  8. Jamont Tell me a guy whose at least 6'5, who rebounds, dribbles, jumps, dunks, passes, and shoots as good as him. Honorable mentions go to Brandon Wright (awesome, intimidating presence), Thaddeous Young (Ball handling, and shot will only get better) I've seen willie kemp play before, and he's very good...but he's not play against the AAA teams night in and night out.
  9. White Station also has won the gold ball the last couple of years...defeating Bradley. It's nice that BC beat WSHS when Jonathan Ball got hurt, who might be their best player, and is now back...but it was only one game. WSHS also beat BC in the summer a few times too. I think the edge goes to WSHS. WSHS also doesn't have to worry about Fairley anymore, since JNS knocked them out.
  10. A few things... Nasty does not define Jamont...there are no words to define Jamont. He's spectatcular. The dunk was pretty impressive, and Hampton is really a good athlete playing basketball, as I said earlier, he's a football player, and regardless of how good or bad he is, he doesn't plan on playing bball. Just so you know, he was the starting point guard along with Andre Allen, and Jerrell Houston (MSU signee) and Shawne Williams (Memphis) on a YOMCA team that was one of the top 3 teams in the nation. To say he's not very good just doesn't make sense...Heck he's up for Mr. Basketball which is a great accomplishment. He's good period, maybe not up to your standards or your ability, but I'd take him on my team any day of the week. CBHS does not match up well with BA. CBHS' Chris Mosby is a good Center but he's a sophomore like Wright and is only 6'2. He played well against Briarcrest and hit a number of 13-15 foot shots, Wright will give them fits inside. #10 for CBHS played extremely well, and was a big reason why they won tonight. CBHS does not have a go to player...BCS beat them by 15 earlier this season at CBHS and CBHS beat BCS later in the year by 1. BCS came out in the third quarter and took the lead in the fourth 37-32 and the final was 44-41. CBHS won fair and square, the refs didn't do a very good job of doing the calls...hopefully that will be corrected tomorrow. CBHS should probably play zone or press BA. The only way to stop Brandon Wright is keep it out of his hands, push the guards towards half court and hopefully they will be too far away to make plays. CBHS just does not have the size inside to be able to play man to man...Michael Oherr scored 20 and probably only played about 15 minutes because of foul trouble.
  11. CR4, please calm down. Hampton stole the ball and did a nasty two handed dunk to pull the score to 33-30 and then took a seat on the bench, when he re-entered it was a 9 point game and that was all she wrote. #40 Barry Turner had 16 and killed Byrne inside. Hampton played well, just wasn't hitting his shots like he has for so long. Hampton is the best guard at the state tournament...and he's not overrated. There is no point in saying he's good or bad, he's not playing college basketball, he's a high high D1 football prospect, much like Michael Oherr for BCS.
  12. Very good point FrankL about BA vs BCS. I saw the last BCS vs. BA game...it was a three point game with under a minute left, and I think BCS lost by 5. I'd say BCS would have still have a chance, esp when you consider it was at BA. Oherr didn't have his best game, in fact during the tip off Brandon Wright ACCIDENTLY elbowed him in the head coming down from the tip. Oherr was staggered to the bench and did not start playing well to the second half...he was visibily shaken from it. Oherr is one of the best football players in the state, and rumors have circulated that LSU, UT, NCSU, OSU, and Ole Miss have already offered full scholarships to him. BCS beat CBHS at CBHS and CBHS returned the favor...BUT BCS was without their PG for that game who had an ankle injury... Bishop Byrne matches up well with BA because BA is so weak at the guard position. Byrne also will play a zone, whether it be a 2-3 or a 1-3-1 in hopes of guarding B. Wright that way. They definitely can't go man to man against him, which is some thing that many teams do all year, then refuse to change their ideas when they go against BA. Byrne should try and go to a full court zone, in hopes of getting it out of Brandon Wrights hands and forcing turnovers. In a half court set, Brandon Wright is unstoppable. Good luck to all teams still involved, I'll be making the journey down to Lipscomb this afternoon.
  13. the tssaa website has him going 2-15 from the 3 point line in the loss to Briarcrest...I think he missed three 2 point shots as well, but I could be wrong. I hope he gets to play some where in college.
  14. BCS is beating Knox Catholic 33-22 with 4 minutes left in the third. C Michael Oherr has 17 of BCS' points and Fox has 9. The foul count was BCS 10 and KCHS 4 in the first half and currently stands at BCS 4 KCHS 1 which is making it hard for BCS to get in sink.
  15. Brandon Wright is the better player and prospect. He is taller, and has a better outside shot. He doesn't worry about his shot getting blocked because he is 6'9. He also is better defensively because he blocks anything within 7 feet of the rim. I'd say Brandon Wright has a good chance to go straight to the NBA from high school. I've seen Harrison play and he is more dominant than Harrison. Brandon Wright is a much better player now than he was last year and in the summer (YMCA your team was awesome, I love Young and Niles).
  16. I'm kinda surprised Coach Tippett at WSHS didn't get it. I'm not going to belittle the new coach, but Tippett's resume is second to none. His teams have been nationally ranked the last 4 years or so...He has had several players play D1 including Earnest Shelton (Alabama), Robert O' Kelley (Wake), and Dane Bradshaw (UT). He has been one of the best coaches in the city for decades... Your coach must be great if they took him over coach Tippett. Tippett has also won the last few AAA state titles in TN (The largest classification in the state).
  17. How good is Knox. Catholic...their star appears to be Fox...so if BCS can defend him (which they can do pretty well) then BCS should definitely do well against them I would think? Byrne has the disadvantage for 3 reasons... 1-Experience, Has not played in thechampionship like BA has 2-Byrne has not played a quality schedule...They beat CBHS, but many teams have played more difficult schedules than Byrne... (the small D2 schools in Memphis like Elliston Baptist aren't comparable to Giles Co) 3-Coaching...I don't want to say a coach is bad, but I think the edge goes to BA. I correctly predicted Lausanne at state last year even though everyone said that the more athletic ND team would take them...I think when the state tournament comes the players tighten up and are very nervous (heck everyone gets like that) and that is when Bwright will shine. The kid is downright unstoppable...I really have never seen anything like that. I haven't seen this BGA team, but It's been about 6 or 7 years since a BGA team went to the sectionals in D2...I hope their lack of experience doesn't hurt them.
  18. Itzme- I like your picks...but I think when it's all on the line...BA takes Byrne.
  19. So the 2A state champion in football would move down to 1A? Along with Trousdale and Alcoa perhaps... Mitchell played in the 2A state title game two years ago and they would move down too. They have a top 20 sophomore in basketball nationally... Was this really a victory for the small public schools? The 2A schools lost 2 privates but gained a handful of better than average private schools...I doubt they are happy too?
  20. I understand perfectly! It is obvious that ANY school that has access only to a strictly zoned population base has a disadvantage as compared to ANY school that can draw from a larger base, even if enrollment is equal. It is also obvious that ANY school that charges several thousand dollars for tuition is has a disadvantage as compared to ANY school that does not charge tuition, even if enrollment is equal. What you are missing here is that athletic classification issues are not nearly as one dimensional as you seem to think they are. Public schools and private schools both have advantages and disadvantages in terms of access to student athletes. To borrow from your post, "Why is that so hard to understand?" Beat me to the punch big red. Tution is a huge disadvantage...
  21. It's Be Right. The kid is phenomenal. Thaddeous Young is a great player, and I think he might be a better all around player than Brandon Wright by the time he is a senior because: 1-Plays better competetion 2-Plays every position (i.e. brings the ball down the court, shoots 3's,etc) I think Brandon Wright is phenomenal, when we played him a couple weeks ago he had 3 or 4 blocks on the first posession! When he is a senior he will be the best sophomore in the state, he might not be the most well rounded (heck what 7 footers are!) but he is a great player, and the sky is the limit for that kid.
  22. Ridgeway is wayyyyyyy too low. You're talking about a team that has three legitimate Division 1 players on it. Pierre Niles even went to the Nike Camp as a sophomore and is one of the best players anywhere as a sophomore. They also barely lost to White Station the first time. I have no ties to Ridgeway, but they have done very well for themsevles in AA (two titles) and easily could have won state last year. They are definitely a top 20 team.
  23. I could be completely wrong...but one of my old girl friends is from South Point Ohio (Was up for Ms. Ohio actually after winning homecoming queen :justwrestle: ) anyway, I believe she had to baby sit A.J. Mayo who is a superb basketball player and plays for a private school in KY. There is of course one state championship for basketball in KY and his school (which gave him financial aide and has very few students) beat some very large public schools and won the state championship (if they didn't win, they got darn close). Last year, ESPN did "The Season" on Bluegrass Basketball and I believe the state champions were from his team. I don't know the recruiting rules in KY, but I have seen that Mayo kid play in AAU 13 and Under Nationals (always held in Memphis) and he is phenomenal. He was held back a grade and so he played the 13 and Under twice and the second time they won the national title (I guess that was two summers ago which puts him as a 16 year old sophomore).
  24. I told a friend of mine that I liked my schools water fountains more than his schools water fountains.
