  1. I believe the ICE won the Classic bracket at AAU 15's which was good enough for 8th place...if you want to see where that puts the Travelers...
  2. Can't beat em, dont play em...sounds so familiar...and very fitting on this thread.
  3. I think that would be very hard to do swamp. Here are some examples of state champions who struggled against better competition. Bishop Byrne, two years ago I believe they were 7-4, first round of the playoffs, lose to BGA 20-0. This year they lose to ECS (Former 2 time state champions 3-0 at Byrne). They win the Division 2-A state championship in a land slide over every division opponent they play...but by losing to ECS we can assume that they would have probably lost to Harding, and Briarcrest...Harding beat ECS 14-7 and 7-0...BCS beat them 19-7. So let's say that Byrne was forced to play up next year. The odds of them beating those 3 schools are still very slim, not to mention the fact that BGA and Webb are picked ahead of a few of those schools in the power polls. It was my understanding, that if a team did not perform well at the bottom of the charts, then they would be moved back, so Byrne would move back. Coincidently St. Benedict from Division 2-AA (who hasn't won a region game in over 2 years, and didn't win a game last year), would move to Division 2-A...which might be better for them. Let us now take the Division 2-AA champion Battle Ground Academy. BGA LOST to ECS 14-3 which shows how close the division actually is right now. Assuming that BGA got moved up anyway, we will look at their record against Division 2-AAA which is striking. I believe they were shut out by MBA 17-0? Was it something like that? They also lost their other Super 7 game. In fact NONE of the Division 2-AA teams were able to defeat a Super 7 team. Harding lost to BA 30-7 and handily to MUS, BCS lost to CBHS 28-7? ECS lost to CBHS 21-6? (Sorry its been 8 months I cant remember off hand). So we can assume that BGA would struggle if they were thrown into a higher conference I believe. BGA also played Goodpasture and Lipscomb if I recall. They lost to Lipscomb I believe? And beat Goodpasture with no time remaining, those schools might be reversed I'm not sure. I think about other great programs, like Alcoa for instance, and how they would possibly move to 3A or even 4A...and then I think about how hard it would be for them to really dominate at that level, I mean let's be honest...it's hard to DOMINATE as you said swamp, year end and year out. I was concerned mostly with travel by the Memphis City Schools, but now that I think about it that won't be a problem.
  4. So does that mean ELA, that public school football teams do not have to bench a kid during football season? I'm not even sure if public schools use a 6 week system or a 9? Harding does it if you are failing two classes, or have a C- average overall, obviously thats a private school though. Get back to this when you can, now that two a days have started. Remember the Dallas Cowboys training camp is wednesday on HBO around 11pm I believe?
  5. You boys just wait till Briarcrest gets theres...its going to be underground. Circular seating, the score board will be from the top of the rafters in the middle, all leather chair backed seating, 10 player scoreboard, brings a tear to my eye...I like Montgomery Centrals for some odd reason, Cookeville has a nice one as well.
  6. What did you say about proof that private schools bench kids? I didn't follow? Do you want me to bring proof that private school kids are benched for bad grades? I guess I could go to the schools that I know of and get their handbooks and scan them on here if you want me to? Sorry, I just don't understand what you want.

  8. I don't have a problem with anyone on this site. Out of all the people on here, I only know who ELA supports and pulls for, I don't know where you went to high school or who you root for, I don't even know who VolGen roots for. I have heard where coachT teaches, but don't remember it frankly. I might question ELA more then anyone, but that is only because he is the only person here who I actually identify with, and he is also the most knowledgeable person on this site in terms of the amendments, TSSAA laws, and private/public issue...that being said he is also probably the most different person on here then me. He coaches at a small school and lives in a small town (I guess its a small town don't really know!). I live in a big city and played at a private school almost 5 hours from him. I do have a problem with people who do not answer direct questions to them. One example is the Title IX issue, ELA said that colleges were making "millions of dollars a week." When I did research on that, we found that the majority of colleges do not make that much money, and many of them are actually over their budget and in rough waters. ELA chose not to comment on that, thats a direct fact. I simply said people choose to answer what they want to, and if they don't have an answer they disappear for awhile. Another good example is VolGen's "Merit Based System" Go back to the last post, or the next to last post...It's by me, It says...what exactly is the problem with his plan? No one chose to answer it, therefore we can assume there are no problems or no one cares. I at first resented his plan, but I later admitted I was wrong...thats right, I wrote on their that what I had proposed would be a problem, really wasn't one and admitted my mistake. JUST1NP I respect your dedication to this site, as well as ELA's, and CoachT's they are all more extensive and meaningful to this site then my sometimes bitter or harsh tone, I mean no disrespect to anyone, and ELA will always be in my good graces as long as he roots for America's Team.
  9. Yes Volgen...I have sat here and said nothing because I have been busy lately...but you are right. It should offend everyone, and it does offend me, but let them think what they want. That is a person who is just jealous of Goodpastures team, let him think what he wants. My basketball team lost to Goodpasture 4 years ago when they had two 6'8 guys...one was named Lucas Brohmine...I could sit here and talk about how they recruited then and all that stuff, but that serves no purpose. The people who comment on this board love to talk about how publics are forced to play privates. Yet they never comment on the problems D2 has, they just don't say a word about it. I already talked about how you couldn't put certain numbers or quotas on schools or people (see the Title IX) thread. Certain individuals chose not to respond to that after I proved them wrong, particularly about the money that D1 colleges make. I have to be careful what I post now because it always is taken the wrong way. There are also many people on this site that just flat out lie about their positions or jobs. People claim to be college administrators, or coaches...yet when I ask them questions they seem to not know, or refuse to comment on it. There are people on this board that always pump their own team up and promise they will win state (remember during baseball season, everyone said their team would win state...Farragut, THS, Maryville etc. Yet no one said Germantown when Gtown was ranked #5 in the country, granted GHS didn't win...but at the time no one knew that). I use this board now to add players to the site in hopes of getting them publication. When I post my opinion, no one responds, or when I disprove them they choose not to talk about it. That's fine, I take that as they don't have anything else to say about that. By VolGen saying...where is your proof and that individual not responding, we can assume that he has no proof either, but what he has said has already left its mark. Many people on this board talk about things that don't even effect them. We have adults on here who bad mouth private school football teams, yet there team doesn't play them, nor will never see them unless its the state champiionship. If I got on here and just talked about how bad small public schools are, that would be stupid. I wasn't raised around them, and never played them, so I shouldn't respond to things about that. ELA you never commented on the fact that privates like Harding bench kids if they aren't doing well in school...Does it hurt you that privates take more of a stand on academics then schools like yours (not saying yours cus I don't know if you suspend kids for their grades). Last time I asked you a question, I was warned, and called a jerk, even though I still think it is a perfectly straight forward question, and if he asked me if I was happy being a private school graduate from stupid West TN, I would have answered it...keep in mind, this is on the offchance that someone reads my post, which apparently people just skim through this.
  10. Split them up, but remember...there would be no argument of publics were winning...publics aren't winning and therefore there is a problem.
  11. logic would say that, but this is the TSSAA.
  12. What is in this book? Players? Teams? Schedules? Stats? Could anyone also give me a link to his website or to the actual link to where we order.Thank you.
  13. ecs and briarcrest was number 23 in the 90's.
  14. I respect you Rebelron...we both agree that BA could play against Maryville, MHS is never a pushover, and especially next year of all years...but in terms of actual talent I have to give the edge to BA they have several several guys on their that will go D1, not to mention the best special teams in the state. I know Maryville has guys like Stewart and Rouse...but BA has a qb, 3 runningbacks, a go to receiver, the best field goal kicker and punter in the state, and a tight end that is a man among boys. Itwould be a dandy, and either team would beat either team. I better stop there before all these MHS guys start complaining. That 9-11 comment was the worst excuse I have ever seen. If anything it put things in perspective and made kids (like myself) feel special and priveledged to play, not sorry for themselves. That is horrible, be glad that yall came back and whipped West, thats what a true champion does, he always tries to improve, and never gives up, he doesn't make excuses when he loses at home especially when the other team could say the exact same thing.
  15. Brentwood Academy would beat Maryville Next year...but last year Maryville would have won. BA is loaded, I find it funny that people always make fun of BA, yet they are scheduling St. Xavier and I see a lot of 4A teams not even playing up or playing soft schedules. (I know West plays a hard schedule, and Maryville plays teams like Alcoa...who is still 2a but good)...THS needs to start playing harder teams cus it hurts them in the playoffs, and probably DB does too.
  16. I know at Harding Academy after the first 6 week period a kid must sit out if he is failing TWO classes or has anything lower than a C average (I think the TSSAA is like a C-). So just because schools don't have to punish their kids for academics, doesn't mean they dont. Contrary to what you guys might think, some private schools care more about academics then athletics.
  17. ELA, I know of a very storied program in the Memphis area, that is notorious for practicing (we will say Baseball) before the season, but they have their coach out their, and then they are known for going to a mandatory weight lifting at a professional site. If I took pictures of them and sent them into the TSSAA, would they look at them?
  18. Harding4ever PLEASE STFU!!! All you ever talk about is how great harding is going to be , well guess what yall arent even the best team in the division so you shouldnt be talking so much noise. Maybe when you make it out of the second round of the playoffs you can open your mouth but until then please keep quiet. Harding has a very solid team this year but they arent near as good as you let on.
  19. haha...you guys are great, oh man I don't know about holding on JAC, but I remember distinctively in the game you held me and then just sat on me, and the ref threw the flag...but you two guys are still so funny, JAC if I remember correctly I asked for a spring game between our two schools...it was you guys that declined.
  20. 1998 they were 5-6 lost to ECS 14-0 in the first round of the playoffs off of a 65 yard Anderson touchdown run and a 50 yard bomb to Bill Edwards right before halftime. The lions had loss to the Eagles 28-0 earlier that year (It was a monsoon and the eagles scored all 4 touchdowns before halftime). I know that Anderson scored and I think their junior fullback Brandon Fitzhugh scored as well. I know they beat Byrne, Tredwell, Westside, St Benedict, and Catholic...think they lost to BGA (Fleming), BCS, ECS, USJ, and Overton...and then ECS again. Beat ECS 5 years ago at home in the regular season (I think it was week 8) before losing to BCS 19-7 at Towering Oaks. I remember Terry Erwin had an amazing flee flicker touchdown pass to put the Lions up 7-0. Harding was actually beating Briarcrest at halftime in the regular season game at Harding 7-0 but BCS returned the second half kick back to the 2 before putting the finishing touches on the lions. In the ECS game Sophomore Jonathan Knight blocked two punts, one was recovered in the end zone by Brian Cooper...I believe we won 28-14. Led by Chris Cannon, Jeremy Angus, Terry Erwin, and juniors Kevin Higdon and David McKean. Also I think Harding was #5 in the dandy dozen then, interestingly enough so was ECS, BCS, and St. Benedict. Yes Harding has definitely turned it around. Led Shelby County in total or rushing defense. Set the school record for most shut outs, and has now hosted a first round playoff game, and a second round playoff game. Was also ranked number one in Division 2-AA and Division 2-A by the Associated Press, and was also a Member of the Commercial Appeal Dandy Dozen.
  21. 3 out of 10 3 out of 10...I find myself always saying that. And the reason is because everytime I start thinking about if 1-coaching is really that important 2-privates have advantages over publics 3-there should be a change I remember that. VolunteerGeneral-I know you commented on "The New Kid" thread which dealt with...a new kid. That guy made it seem like privates just live on these transfers, I can think of two great players the last two years that are going from very good schools to public schools. -Brentwood Academy, Darius Barnes, basketball and football player...didnt he transfer to Hunters Lane? Maryville, TJ Brock (I like how the maryville guys dont say anything about him now) transfers to sweetwater. Those are two rock solid recruits who could step in and help any school in the state, and they go to a public school and no one says anything about it. What about the Germantown recruits three years ago? Paul Maholm? He pitches now for Mississippi State (one of the best teams historically in the country). Didn't like 5 of those guys go to Marshall Springs, and had their parents file for divorce so they could go to Germantown. People got mad when Harding got some new players, and when Attiba Alexander decided to go to Briarcrest...but no one seemed to say anything when Bartlett got Greg Tucker from Westside or when they got Jonathan Loe who now plays for Ole Miss. No one really talks about when a public school gets a good athlete, but when a private gets one, its assumed that they cheated in order to get it. -If I had made a statement about insenuating things, I don't know what would have happened...but I will assume that I would have gotten yelled at or accused of being a private school supporter and West Tennesseean. I made some in the post about Ezell and how I assumed they cheated (now I feel really embarrassed about it and apologize)...and in another one called "Bias against west TN." ELA I think you commented on that one...That was a horrible thread, filled with racism, financial woes, and name calling. ELA might have commented in that thread, but I'm not really sure because ELA isn't from West TN,(only bring that up that when I do it, people get mad...when others do it, its not a personal attack but an attack in general).
  22. ELA, do you not like it because some private schools might cheat, even though we have no proof of it? Or because it is immoral...I think it's immoral, even if the kid is paying by actually doing work, I would have worked my tail to go to Harvard, but no one gave me that oppurtunity, but would they have given it if I was a great football player?
  23. I agree to the statement 1 player will help...and if you notice my original post, I said 1 player probably does help in 1A, but when you go up a few classifications it doesnt. Here are some teams that would have been good, even if one player wasn't on them. Briarcrest, Brentwood Academy, Bishop Byrne, Germantown (lost their best player), Houston, Collierville, MUS, Morristown West, McCallie, Maryville, THS, Melrose, East, Harding, ECS, CBHS (did lose their best player Ligon, still was #1 for awhile), Riverdale, DB, USJ, CPA, and many many others that I am not mentioning. I have either played against, or seen the majority of those teams. I don't even know who you would say is the best player for Brentwood Academy, Maryville, or Melrose...can anyone really say who it is? 1A wise, when you are talking about the regular season...yes 1 player makes a huge difference, but when you are deep in the playoffs, and every team is good, and they know what play u are going to do, and who is going to run it, and where its going to be ran to...that comes down to not one player, but a group of individuals...Rams aren't good cus they have Marshall Faulk, good cus they have Warner, Bruce, Martz, Holt, Pace, Wilkins, Aeneas Williams etc. Faulk wasn't that great in Indianapolis...One player can not carry a football team (for the most part) when you leave 1a...sure he may be real important (especially a qb) but just because a qb or rb goes down, doesn't mean they are just done with. As I said earlier, I don't think work study is a good thing at the 1a level, because I do agree ELA that the kid is probably not carrying his load...its for that reason, not the reason that he makes the difference on a football team that I am against work study (really at any level, I don't think its that great for D2 but I guess its better then just giving someone a scholarship).
  24. Boodle Clark hit that high? He is going to like ETSU...he plays 4A and hit that high and he is going to ETSU...no disrespect to ETSU, but something doesnt mane since, I know guys that hit 330 going to Ole Miss, UT, and Vandy.
  25. I'm sorry, I just don't understand the Riggs example...Riggs would have made a team win at any level, I don't think shelly was the best qb either, but he was way up there. If a kid works for tution, I just don't see how that is bad, if anything it teaches him life lessons on what you have to do in order to get what you want. What if a kid was allowed to be on a college basketball team, as long as he helped clean up the gym, wash the jerseys, help prepare the film, etc. I wouldnt be against work study being moved to D2, but one player, for the most part does not completely revolutionize a team.
