  1. It's tough scheduling games these days, but yeah, Volunteer should never be on the schedule. Maybe look to the Roanoke area, Asheville area, Graham, Abingdon, Union? Any of those would be a better option than Volunteer in most seasons.
  2. Wish they could've scrimmaged Anderson Co, who would have given us a much better test. Volunteer won't present any problems, nor will ME or Crockett. A fired up West Ridge could, especially if they don't clean up the penalties.
  3. Possible, but the final spread will be around that. The staff won't purposely try to embarrass Volunteer.
  4. Literally a name the score type of game, but I'll go with... Tribe 49 Falcons 0
  5. Tribe 42 THS 14 This one will basically be over by the middle of the 2nd quarter.
  6. Our grandson is a senior at DB this year. When he was at Robinson, they really struggled in the 7th & 8th grade, as did Sevier. It's amazing that they've been as successful as they have at DB.
  7. While I never approach the outcome of a scrimmage as a win or loss, my biggest takeaway is how a team looks from a standpoint of physically competing with a decent opponent. We can talk about not "showing" this or that, but you can't hide who you are physically. I saw all three scrimmages last year and thought the ceiling was 7-3 after watching them having a tough time in all three scrimmages. This is our grandson's final year. I'm hoping for an improvement on last year's record, and with the schedule, I think it's possible.
  8. That's why former Lynn View/North basketball coach John McCrary retired and then went to Twin Springs.
  9. Here in south Florida, we have 4 local schools who share 2 city owned stadiums. We almost always have a Thursday game we can attend.
  10. It happens everywhere to some extent, but probably not as much as people want to believe, at least in East TN. As has been stated, there are kids who will "shop around", and I've known a couple of those. To me, that's not a big deal. Recruiting does happen though. About 10 or so years ago, my coworker had a son who was a nice athlete at Volunteer. He was approached on a couple of occasions by a couple of different D-B coaches during his freshman and sophomore seasons. It was nothing terribly overt, but was more of a friendly "you should come play for us" type of thing. My coworker didn't get upset about it, but her son wanted to finish out his high school years with the kids he grew up with. I'd guess that most "recruiting" is probably like that, if you want to classify that as recruiting. You want to see recruiting? You should come down to South Florida sometime. The "transfer" rules in Florida are extremely lax, or so I've been told. I can believe it. Down here it's the HAVES and the HAVE NOTS, and the have nots get picked apart during the off season by the haves. Just this year, our two city schools lost multiple starters. Westwood lost 4 starters to Vero Beach, including two guys who are committed to Indiana and FSU. All of those guys were impact players for Vero. They also lost a 4 star safety to IMG that is projected to go to UGA. Westwood, which is usually a solid playoff team finished the season 0-8. Central lost 5 starters and Okeechobee lost a 3 star WR/DB to another local school. Central and Okeechobee finished a combined 5-13.
  11. I can vouch for Smoky Mtn Bakers on Orr St. We go eat there at least twice a year when we are visiting Kingsport. It's worth the drive over. They have other specials besides their fantastic pizza, and you should get some bread and/or dessert(s) to take back to SP. Smoky Mountain Bakers And Wood Fired Pizza
  12. Propst is a 1st class A Wipe. He did well at Colquitt Co (between Hoover and Valdosta), but screwed up royally at Valdosta and got them hit with a postseason ban this year for recruiting violations.
  13. Rush Propst is available, and Oak Ridge is a great place to raise two families...
  14. A well funded, highly organized, tightly monitored and well coached youth league system is the backbone of just about any highly successful program.
  15. It's not just a Science Hill problem. It's a high school football in general problem. What type of crowd would D-B have w/o band families? It'd still be more than Science Hill, but it would be a noticeable drop. Right now, I hear the West Ridge crowds have been good, but it's a new thing and they've had a successful year that's been beyond expectations. Seems like most of the better crowds come from the smaller communities, or extremely successful programs like Murville. Here in South Florida, there are some really big schools that rarely draw more than 500 or so. Locally, Treasure Coast high school has an enrollment of nearly 3K and ranked in the top 5 of Class 8A, but some home games they'll be lucky to have 300-500 people. I think in general, a lot of old timers like me who used to come out and support the schools are either dead or just unable to make it out, and the "younger" crowd really doesn't care unless they have kids in school who are playing.
  16. Again, your reading comprehension is terrible. I told another poster that I agreed AND disagreed that lack of competition in NE TENN hurts because...well, lack of competition hurts everyone no matter who you are, but also helped from a standpoint of D-B getting tons of playing time for the younger players. It's far from the biggest problem that D-B faces in advancing further in the playoffs, but that's been discussed here ad nauseum.
  17. Waco has already pointed it out, but your reading comprehension stinks. I was also going back more than 20 years, which I'm guessing is before you were born.
  18. What happened to the Florida Coach T website? We retired to Florida from Kingsport three years ago and I was happy to see the website start. I was participating on the message board when it started and things seemed to be going ok, then the activity just stopped. I talked to the guy who was running it a couple of times, but haven't heard from him in quite some time. I hope he's ok.

  19. Agree and disagree. Yes, D-B has played a ton of weak opponents over the years, but most of them have been teams they were required to play. They've always tried to schedule good teams in their out of conference games. The games against teams like Central/East/Volunteer, etc. have hampered them with the lack of competition, but OTOH, have provided tons of playing time for younger players to develop. IMO, the thing that has hampered D-B more than anything has been the lack of highly organized, tightly monitored youth league programs that the high school coaching staff is heavily involved in. Those leagues should focus on fundamentals like blocking/tackling/rules of the game and have everyone running the same basic offensive and defensive packages of the high school program. As for tonight... Murville 49 Tribe 14 Roll Tribe anyway
  20. Love Rocky's. The Aroma Cafe is excellent as well. Is it still open? Been a few years since we ate there.
  21. K-West v M-West = a running clock in the 2nd half. Central v THS = a running clock in the 2nd half. SC v DC = Don't know much at all about SC, but Crockett's last game was a narrow 14-7 win over a struggling Class AA Richlands, VA program. Richlands is 4-5 on the year, and Crockett was the only loss where they weren't completely smoked. I'll go with SC in this one. Halls v Boone = Boone is a tough, physical team, but won't be able to hang with Halls over 4 quarters.
  22. Before the season started, I had the Tribe finishing 7-3. After watching the scrimmages, I still had them finishing 7-3...and they finished 7-3. Everything considered, not a bad year.
  23. There's only a handful of D-B fans and maybe a couple of SHHS fans on here. Most of the other posters don't care about the outcome, as neither team is going to make a dent in the playoffs. I'm not sure what you were expecting.
  24. Toppers 28 Tribe 24 Roll Tribe anyway....
  25. Won't matter. There's a good possibility Region 1 goes 0-4 any way you slice it.
