  1. what????...................did MJ just play their middle-schoolers. Kisler......what is going on? I know Oakland is pretty good, but this does not bode well for MJ.
  2. David, You are spot on.................you seem to have a load of great info. How about checking LOD's playing experience at Smyrna. If history is correct; when he attended; they were not exactly a powerhouse...............he constantly bemoans Metro football. In those days, Smyrna would not dare play a Metro team..................LOD; did you even play football for the Bulldogs!!!! David............how many State Championships would Coach Rankin have won had he stayed at Smith Co.........................probably as many as a fine coach Jimmy Maynard won!! Gary is no fool...............you gotta have the Jimmy and Joe's or the X's & O's do not work as well..............he is a good coach and has made some excellent moves.
  3. It is not a compliment to say the last couple coaches have had talent out the whazoo, but have had bad records ............that = crummy coaching. Last year, you said talent out the whazoo.............well this new "coaching legend" has got them now, and he is 1 - 6............1 - 6 is 1 - 6 = crummy record. I really think their talent is subpar, AND the league is considerably weaker; thus they are showing up better. The "old" coach is probably getting about all he can get out of them..........................and that probably holds true for the last (2) guys. Some schools simply run out of talent ie Gallatin, Riverdale, Smyrna, Lincoln Co., Warren Co....................and all you hear is about the terrible coaching AND that the halls are teeming with football phenoms. Guess what.............neither is true. "You cannot win the Indy 500 with a YUGO" and you cannot win HS football games consistently with average to subpar players. Lebanon should get # 2 vs Portland this week, but # 3 & # 4 might be another thing. Also, for the record............last Year Portland got every ounce they could out of their team in a much tougher league; I thought they really overacheived..........they have had some tough luck this year!!
  4. I am having trouble comprehending the whazoo thing............that whazoo talent was very young last year (# 28 was a soph). So, they have basically the same whazoo talent ( a year older) AND they have a "coaching legend" handling this whazoo talent.............seems like they should be better than 1 - 6. Urban legends do not exist..........neither do moral victories!! Maybe that whazoo talent ain't that good. I would be curious at what the new coach would think. Just curious!!
  5. ya'll are about silly........................move on
  6. Unfortunately...............NO! I think most of you are looking at the smaller picture. The in-house principal treats athletics as a "necessary evil", but she is only following the lead of Register/ Bransford..............he would grin from ear to ear if all athletics were eliminated. The schools that do decently in athletics...............do it on there own!! There are still a few principals that do care, but the list is getting shorter. Nashville is a clone of Cincinnati, OH................it is "private school dominated town"
  7. NO.........but I did stay in a Holiday Inn in Nashville!! Changing the subject....saw where ya'll lost last game. Did this eliminate ya'll from playoff possibility; ya'll had good year!!
  8. MAGNET - another horse crap educational term to make the public think resources are being utilized correctly. Most that can be "magnetized" are at Hume Fogg!! IMHO only
  9. yes........but the East/Stratford thing split the Stratford talent base. Had East not cranked up..........Stratford would have been loaded.
  10. *note........this is only a 5A / 6A problem and it is not coaching!!. The Pearl-Cohn and Maplewood's are doing fine when matched outside in play-offs. They are underattended schools with some very nice athletes (ask Smith Co about talent-level). Here is my point........Broome at Maplewood was at McGavock (got fired); he would have never won big there, but doing fine at Maplewood. The problem of competing at the bigger schools is far more than coaching.......admin at next 2 levels would have to undergo a complete athletic rennaisance plus somehow figuring how to get community support back to the schools........an answer might be smaller schools,,,,,,,get out of those big old comp schools. Metro at one time had about 22-23 schools playing football. Bransford Ave could care less about football in Nashville.....bring in whoever you would like; it will not change one iota. I am really sorry to have to say these things IMHO
  11. not really.........he had been in Oz before at Hillsboro.
  12. yep.......a recycled Spartan might be the pick. I would really like to see one of those Wilco wonders venture into Metro. Wasn't the present Antioch boss a wilco wonder?? Those interested might want to check with him about a venture into Oz........
  13. If he takes a Metro job..........the shot will be a self-inflicted wound (LOL).
  14. No worse than Cookeville being a high seed...........their league is weaker than the Metro league. I will repeat..........or propose new "measuring rule" If you alive after round #1........you may claim "making it to the play-offs"
  15. This slide started years ago.............when the "neighborhood" was removed from schools and the schools were directed by the courts that "diversity" would solve all ills of society. The necessary fan and parental support needed for Metro is gone to either the "privates" or the surrounding counties. Public HS football is still alive and well in the surrounding counties. You coached in Metro at one time............which job would you go back and revive?? I doubt that you would return
  16. Beyond embarassing AND it cannot be fixed!! (School Director cares very lttle for athletics; he did same for Chattanooga). Only teams that MIGHT have some success are the Pearl-Cohn, Maplewood, Whites Creek, East Lit............they might out athlete the 3A and 4A teams that they might get to face in play-offs. 5A and 6A teams are basically having to compete at a level of competition that they do not have the resources for.........their are some skilled players, but no financial support, little parental support, scarce fan support, along with zero publicity make it a steep hill to climb........Only publicity in Nashville goes to Ricky and the rest of the "privates". Nashville Tn still has good football but it is all "private". Ricky and his bunch can compete with anyone in TN.........including Quarles and Rankin and anyone in 7 AAA. Old NIL was an excellent football league.........both public and private, but it is long gone and will NEVER return UNLESS there is a concerted effort by a new school director. IMHO only
  17. He made good points............The Coffee Co./Siegel is simple. Go back to old "bowl rule"......NO BOWL GAME UNLESS YOU WIN 6 GAMES; if you do not win 6; you do not enter the play-offs!! spot will be filled by a lesser team from another region; if not possible........do like the lower clases---have byes for the top-seeded teams. New coacht rule --- YOU WILL NOT GET CREDIT FOR MAKING PLAY-OFFS UNLESS YOU MAKE 2ND ROUND!! I am want to puke when I hear these teams claiming play-off status from small or "easy" regions and then getting axed quick. Sorry Oakland/MJ..........you both live in a hard world (LOL). I can remember in early years play-offs; most teams were 10-0 or 9-1; the 8-2/ 7-3's went to bowl games. Here is a novel thought.........make last game the first round of play-offs and let all play!! Would require some byes!
  18. not really................neither should be in the play-offs. The present play-off system is designed for one thing only.............MONEY FOR THE TSSAA. We have a district champ that is a #1 seed in Middle Tn that should not even be in the play-offs. Any 5A or 6A out of Nashville is an absolute joke!!
  19. You folks do not seem to like your HC. I met him a couple times and he seems like a very nice guy! Give the man a chance. He has definitely been exposed to some of the best coaching/training that a potential coach could get...........lighten up! How many of you have actually played football. How many of you have actually coached football (at least at the HS level...........Jr Pro does not count). How about it Sarah or Taco..........any real snaps. You must have; cause you got all the answers.
  20. I see that Hunters Lane is now looking for a HC in football. Terry Hemontoler (sp??) was only there for one season. What is going on there? HL has always been loaded with talent. This is curious!!
  21. Arguing with you is both enjoyable and rewarding! Those that really understand the offense like it AND hate defending it..........here is a tip LOD; the reason a lot of coaches will dismiss; it is because they do not have the ability to run it; it requires a bit more coaching and technique than they possess (many are not capable of that). You seem to appreciate technique; therefore I think you would appreciate it more IF you really understood the ins and outs of the "O" (trust me; you do not......you just see parts that you think do not like). The offense is really helpful when you are not as talented as some of your opponents........especially in the offensive line. It simply gives you a chance to be competitve!! THAT's ALL. I mentioned before......this year Hendersonville was a good-solid HS team; the last (2) teams that they beat in the play-offs were more talented than them (especially the Memphis team.......that team losing was a crime vs nature!!). Columbia was estatic that they did not have to play the Memphis team. I actually think that the Wing Offense skewed the 5A play-offs......they should have not been there; but the offense helped them (*note they run it well). Also, the year before a wing team Beech beat a more talented Columbia team (they could not defend the jet sweep) IT IS NEVER THE PLAYS.............IT IS ALWAYS THE PLAYERS.........ALWAYS!! the SLAG has spoken (LOL)
  22. finally...........an intelligent post on the subject!! (3) points 1.) Check out Auburn...........you'd never know that Malzahn (old ex HS wing coach) is using the hound out of "wing" blocking and he is "spreading" the field. Auburn runs that old sideways jet sweep that LOD thinks is useless..........uhh so does Oregon, but you cannot win with that type offense in big time Tenn 6A football, but either one of those teams will win the Nat championship at a slightly higher level 2.) Hendersonville was a average HS team this year........but beat (2) teams in the play-offs that had much better players...........WHY?? patient wing offense. 3.) Lost Old Dad.............you are so clueless; that you are actually funny. The coach at Riverdale has the most consistent offense in that league, AND was very young this past season. The Warriors will be the bad dog next season. Coaches in your league hate defending Riverdale; you just hate Aydellott!
  23. Whispers on the WillCo grapevine are saying that there may be (2) more football openings in Williamson County to add to the Ravenwood opening!! Independence Centennial can anyone verify this??
  24. Man you want is in your system @ Brentwood...............Dan Winfree!! OC at Brentwood and former HC
  25. Does anyone think that the "small" state of Tennessee rates (8) State Champions. Go back to 4 or 5 at most and put all schools together...............privates might have to cut back on some recruiting (LOL). *note Publics recruit also!! Case in point! Why did Brentwood HS even bother to have a regular season this year? They won their district this year..............that rates #1 seed and a home game 1st round; I do not think anyone can deny that!! Is the Rutherford district rather strong this year...........YES! Will that last forever..........Probably not! Last year and this year were hastily drawn up without regard to stupid consequences............almost like stuff done in Washington DC. Priority should be based on regular season leagues and placement should proceed from there. Comments
