  1. What happened to DeKalb County's previous coach, Victor Harrison??
  2. It is a little late in the season to do much about this unless the team involved makes it to the state tournament. T$$AA will not address the situation unless a complaint or inquiry is received. By the time there is an investigation and hearing, softball season will be well underway.
  3. What nights are these games being played?
  4. I do agree that this is somewhat of a pointless thread as comparing teams of the past is only for fun and discussion, and there will never be a clear winner. However, since you mentioned all-time, I just had a vision of the following players walking into the WCHS jymnasium. Austin Bates, Todd Milholland, Rico Ralston, Kevin Rawlings and since Waverly has been around much longer than Sycamore, we will throw in a girl by the name of Sally Smith. If you are not aware of her abilities, ask your parents, grandparents, or consult the T$$AA record book. With a team this loaded, we will need some subs to show good sportmanship as the above 5 should not be on the court for long. Roman Sanders, Tink (does he have a real name?), Jeff Washington, Paul Yarborough (pre-accident),and Kent Milholland could all fill in admirably. My apologies to the many Waverly players who I may have inadvertantly left off of this team. Sycamore does have a very strong team this year and has done remarkably well in their short existence. But it will take several more quality players to be even remotely compared to the former greats who played at Waverly Central.
  5. If you believe it's an advantage to play at home, it means a lot. The format has changed this year for the District tournament. The first round games will all be played on the higher seeded teams home floor. The semi-finals, consolations and finals will then be played at Stewart County. So the 4 versus 5 seed will be important. BTW, I think the format change is good. Besides rewarding the higher seeds with a home game, it should allow more people to attend the games and provide later start times preventing teams from playing as early as 4:00 p.m. Anyone know which days they will play these games? Girls on one day, boys on another?? Semis and finals on??
  6. I don't think Waverly's record is correct either. They have 3 district games remaining so their won-loss record should only total 11, not 13. I think the girls have wins over Stewart, MC, and Sycamore. Their remaining games are against Sycamore, C W, and Fairview.
  7. Anyone know the current 11AA girl's standings?
  8. Wow! Is it really 6 feet??? That is just the vicinity, not guarding someone.
  9. What are the up to date standings in 11AA?
  10. This will be Waverly's fourth game in 5 days. With the athletic Nick Holmes still out, the Tigers better bring their A game.
  11. It was Waverly's Freshmen team playing Dickson's Junior Varsity. I believe the reason the game was called was that there is some kind of rule stating that preliminary games should not delay the start of varsity games. Someone from Dickson County approached the scorers table and the game was then called. It was a sad way to end a very competitive game. The fans arriving for the Varsity games to follow added to the interest and intensity of the game. Many Waverly fans wondered aloud if the fact that two of Dickson's better players fouling out prompted the decision. Someone once said that "ties are like kissing your sister". Well, maybe some people enjoy that. LOL In regards to the seeding for the freshmen tournament, in years past, teams which played non-freshmen in freshmen games did not count as wins. (Some teams do not have a strictly freshmen team or play a freshman schedule.) That had a tendency to mess up the seedings come tournament time. I am not clear on how the tournament is currently structured.
  12. Is Perry County's Matthew Cunningham hurt? Saw a recent box score in which he was not shown.
  13. Noel Smith was a very good high school player and worked very hard for what he achieved. But being 5'-8" to 5'-9" tall versus West being 6-3" to 6-4" (and on a bigger frame), there is NO COMPARISON as to the looks each will/did get for playing college ball. Smith shot a set shot; West shoots a jump shot. Colleges seem to prefer kids who play on winning teams. If Stewart County continues to have a good season and as someone stated in a previous post, plays summer ball for a decent team, he may get his opportunity.
  14. Sycamore is off to a good start but top 5 coach in the state???? I think you may need to wait a few years before making that claim. How did he ever get away from his high school alma mater? Didn't he coach there for awhile?
  15. Very nice effort by the Tigers. Hopefully this game will provide some momentum heading into the Creek Wood game and holiday break. It was nice to see the Tigers look inside for some scoring opportunities with the big men. This year's team does not have the consistent outside scoring threats of previous Waverly teams and will need to look inside for points as well as for setting up the inside out game. I think this years very inexperienced team has the potential for steady improvement as the year progresses.
  16. Somewhat true. But the commitment was from the player only and was non-binding. He was able to fulfill a lifetime dream and had the talent to go with it.
  17. Nope. District 11AA goes west into Region 6. Substate would be a possibility.
  18. Wow! The T$$AA trying to enforce this (if it is true) could cause major problems. What would be the penalty? A technical? One hundred fans in the wrong seats equals 100 free throws prior to the tip off?? LOL. The principal of the school should be the person who makes the call regarding the conduct of the fans. Many small gyms, like Sycamore's, do not have adequate seating for the visiting team because the home team is already sitting on both sides of the gym. Pep bands, which are great IMO, only compound the seating problem. If I attended the Bolivar-Brentwood Academy game and didn't care who won, would I not be allowed to sit on either side? Still can't believe the T$$AA would try to legislate where someone can sit.
  19. Is Rhodes a sophomore for Bolivar? If so, he was impressive last year in the sub-state game. He is going to be a good one. Did the Union City player foul out in the 2nd or 3rd quarter? That would answer the minutes played question. Surprised any coach would keep a player in the game with 3 fouls in the first half or 4 fouls early in the 3rd quarter.
  20. Well, I will try to answer this by paraphrasing a story told to me by a friend who was coaching girls basketball at the time. After a jump ball, the player who received the ball turned and shot the ball at the wrong goal and was fouled. I believe she missed the shot. (Note to younger posters:prior to the alternating possesion rule, actual jump balls took place at center court and at the free throw circles, whichever was closest to where the jump ball was called.) The referee proceeded to give the ball to the player's team who was fouled out of bounds. The quick-minded coach told the referee that the rule stated that a player who was fouled in the act of shooting shall be awarded 2 shots. The referee stated that he didn't care what the rule was, she was NOT going to get to shoot free throws. The very next year, the TSSAA rulebook was amended stating that a player must be shooting at their teams goal. As Paul Harvey would say, "Now you know the rest of the story."
  21. Based upon the performances of last years underclassmen, I potentially see Harpeth 1st, Sycamore 2nd, and think that Montgomery Central will surprise many and finish 3rd. I know nothing about Fairview. The teams that are well coached and continue to get better as the year progresses will advance to the Regions. Playing the likes of Liberty, Bolivar, and Lexington will not be easy.
