  1. one thing I like about substate is that it allows the best teams to advance. Like in A/AA, (girls and boys) two teams from District 6A/AA (ND, CSAS, CCS or others) can actually make it to the semis or even championship. In past years, DII East only had two teams so the third didn't get to go. (although it makes the regular season all that more important)
  2. No one is allowed to recruit, public or private. It happens in both private and public schools. TSSAA does not allow either to recruit but it is so hard to prove.
  3. The cake would be....? Not following.
  4. I think it is called Strength of Schedule. The only weak teams they play (usually) are in the district which means they have to play them. They haven't been blow out by anyone. Most games are close. I think they play Baylor and GPS in the next few weeks. It will be nice to see Baylor and GPS play some local schools. Records aren't good for much except polls. Polls aren't good for much except showing off a weak schedule.
  5. I may be way behind the times but I was cruising around the TSSAA site and looking at the brackets. I knew DII split into A and AA but I guess I never thought about how it will effect the state tournament. Only four teams will advance after substate play. (kind of like DI but they have eight teams) Do we just not have enough fields in Chattanooga or what? Is this good for soccer in Tennessee? Looks like these teams will play a semifinal on Thursday and a final on Friday.
  6. It is very similar in my eyes as well. To sum up the Brentwood case...(correct me if I am wrong) Their football coach sent letters to kids that had already enrolled and invited them to spring football. They came and practiced. This was deamed a violation by TSSAA. Temple allowed kids who had already enrolled, (assuming Larson had enrolled) to practice in spring football. Maybe there wasn't a letter but it is the same thing. Am I missing something.
  7. this does open the door to schools to "hire" a part-time coach so that they can get their kid in the school without having to pay tuition. I would hope schools would not do this, but it does set a precedent. Obviously, this did not happen at Temple. Skogen had been there for 10 years or so. He volunteered for a long time and never got paid. It was a "clerical" error. They should have given him a bill and he should have been paid for coaching. Not really a big deal. But you can't just allow schools to work out some kind of deal with part-time coaches. There should be a contract and I wouldn't even have a problem saying TSSAA has to approve it. I don't want to give TSSAA more power but schools can't just make verbal/secret agreements. There is too much temptation to stretch the rules.
  8. gotta have players to have competitive team. Coach won't matter.
  9. All the spices were left at home. 0-0 tie.
  10. It seems like everytime there was a story about Temple they talked about the volunteer coaches. I don't blame them for asking for some money for all the time. This could set an interesting precedent.
  11. Grace would not have beaten Boyd on their home field with good weather. That is one of the most biased things I have heard you say. (which says alot) I do think it is a big step for Grace to even be on the field with Boyd. I was glad to see them schedule up rather than playing all the little guys. Shows they are ligit. To answer your original question, no Temple won't get a win this week.
  12. I have heard some fairly inteligent talk in the past about the national high school athletic association only recognizing one official association from each state which has some effect on insurance. Seems like someone in the past said that it is not possible to have two associations in one state but I could be wrong.
  13. Soddy and Ooltewah tied 0-0. Should be an interesting post-season for them. I would think it would come down to Cleveland, Soddy and Ooltewah in the region tournament. Only two move on. I also wouldn't count out McMinn Co. and Red Bank but the other three have to be favored at this point. CCS plays ND next Tuesday. I believe several other ranked teams will match up in the next few weeks. Can anyone beat Baylor?
  14. I was at a game the other night and the coach could not communicate with his players on the field because the band was so loud. It was his own team's band. He even turned around and made a motion for them to be quite. It depends on the band and how close they are to the field. This band was VERY loud. It was effecting play.
  15. did Parkes and Sanchez play for Baylor's JV? Good win for the ND jv team.
  16. yeah that should be interesting. Put them with rest of the Baylor second stringers and you probably have a team that could beat 75% of the varsity teams in Chattanooga.
  17. Sounds like you know what your talking about. Why does Grace have a cross-country team? They are horrible. They used to have a good team. Why not shut it down for a few years until they are good again. Every team goes through it's ups and downs. I understand Temple is REALLY down but please. I believe the main reason the still have a team is they did not want to do what Skogen recommended especially since he pulled Joey out. If they dropped the team, Joey may have been eligible to play at McCallie this year. Instead he is playing JV.
  18. It doesn't. I believe 3.0 is the minimum that NHS allows for but schools can make it higher. I can't imagine that parents from McCallie/GPS/Baylor care how many CSAS students are in NHS.
  19. I wondered about Caleb as well. Sounds like Seth is having a good pre-season at Furman. Not to change the subject but noticed Kevin Skogens name listed as an assistant jv coach at McCallie.
  20. NHS is based on GPA. Getting a 3.75 at CSAS and geting a 3.75 at McCallie are two very different things. I am not trying to down CSAS, it is a good school.
  21. The Red Zone on 102.3 does not start until next week.
  22. Some coaches just don't get it. I am not saying John Allen did anything because I know no facts in this situation but I do know that there are coaches out there that feel like they are doing things right but really are not following the rules. Coach Allen is also director of development I believe. This puts him in an ackward situation as an administrator. I would assume he is developing more than a football team. As to Grace and Silverdale.... I was impressed with both at the jamboree. They both showed they could hang with the big dogs. (for at least a quarter) Should be a good year for both teams.
